Maybe there's a statue or law requiring hospital to selectively treat gunshot victims.

A driver at Michael Okpara University Of Agriculture Umudike, Abia State whose name was given as Kingsley Akpan a native of Akwa Ibom State has been shot dead by yet-to-be-identified persons.

An eyewitness, Nnamdi Dike who spoke to ABN TV shortly after the incident on Monday said they were in his shop located at F-line Junction Agbama Housing Estate Umuahia when they heard a gunshot.

According to him, Akpan was hit on the chest by a bullet suspected to have come from a group of passers-by from Olokoro in Umuahia South LGA who were in the area to celebrate their new yam festival.

The victim was said to have raised alarm and immediately rushed to the hospital.

There is no law mandating hospitals attend to emergency patients. ....so hospitals pick and choose who they attend to and who they reject. That need to change.... but then most of these hospitals are not staffed by humans .... don't let them fool you... they are not. Empathy is something in the DNA of humans. If you and your neighbour do not get along ... his house is on fire and his family trapped inside... you will do everything possible to rescue them .. that's human nature. Here a man shot ... bleeding ... they the life savers ... turned him away... to die... and they will all go home and sleep peacefully with bloody hands. Vultures.

Holding on to barbarian behaviour in the name of tradition is one reason Abia is not developing.
