Hmm, never thought of this......if this is so, then alot of Yoruba's whose mothers happen to be igbos can also claim their mother's side....... hopefully one day we'd have a yoruba-igbo man as governor of enugu. |

Christistruth00:Lol....half truths just to push a narrative. Firstly dele momodu's mother isn't even from osun state and only ignorant folks don't know that dele momodu is from Edo state whose father only settled in osun state. The rest you mentioned are all false.....their fathers are pure Yoruba men....lol or is ambode's father an Igbo man. Stop peddling falsehoods and half truths. |

Christistruth00:You're still talking about Nigerian citizenship via one's mother being a Nigerian. This is about the state of origin of people who are a product of inter-ethnic union. While it is common in the South West for someone with a non-Yoruba father to claim their Yoruba mother's state as their state of origin, some regions in Nigeria will never entertain that. And even in the South West, if such person decides to go for an elective position, opposition politicians will employ their non-Yoruba paternal parentage against them. Otunba Gbenga Daniel faced something like that in Ogun when some politicians used rumours that his father was Urhobo-Isoko from Delta state to campaign against him. As much as Yorubas are open-minded when it comes to things like this, don't act like eyebrows won't be raised if someone named Chukwuemeka Nwankwo wants to represent Shagamu in the National Assembly just because his mother comes from Shagamu. |

Christistruth00:Beer parlor "truths" is sweet to fools...and by your logic ilajes aren't yoruba's. Don't have the energy to argue, whatever confirmation bias you tell yourself to help your ignorance is welcome. |

Newton85:This is funny indeed. What the hell is state of origin? His/her mother's state of origin is bestowed on the chap who claims his/her mother's side of the divide. |

Idiko1:So, you think Abia people will allow Yemi Alade to go for an elective position in their state just because her mother is from Abia? Lol, keep deluding yourself though. |
| Re: Is It Unlaw For To Claim my mother's tribal origin In Nigeria by AureliusWolf: 9:18pm On Aug 18, 2021 |
Doradorwa:You shouldn't be wowed because there's no Yoruba culture or norms that says that. It's absolute nonsense. |
| Re: Is It Unlaw For To Claim my mother's tribal origin In Nigeria by Newton85: 9:18pm On Aug 18, 2021 |
JohnSin97:Oga, Dele Momodu's mother is from Ile-Ife in Osun State, and his father is from Edo State. The reason his full name is Ayòbámidélé Àbáyòmí Ojútelégàn Àjàní Momodu is because of his Yoruba mother. He was born and bred in Ile Ife. |
| Re: Is It Unlaw For To Claim my mother's tribal origin In Nigeria by Nobody: 9:24pm On Aug 18, 2021 |
Newton85:Yes, his mother is from Modakeke in Ile Ife. |

AureliusWolf:It might not be spelt out but it exists. Cases like that abounds in Yorubaland. I have seen a couple in my own extended family. Yoruba people are largely liberal in nature hence low discrimination tendency. |
| Re: Is It Unlaw For To Claim my mother's tribal origin In Nigeria by JohnSin97: 9:37pm On Aug 18, 2021 |
Newton85:Even if you're right....it doesn't answer op's question. Dele has never claimed to be a Yoruba man and hasn't claimed his mother's state of origin. So what point are you driving at? |

JohnSin97:Oga, this is not a case of "even if you're right." Reasonable and matured mind admit when they are wrong. I don't know what you mean by Dele Momodu has never identified as Yoruba though. But even though his father hailed from Edo State, it's hard for me not to see someone named Otunba Ayobamidele Abayomi Ojutelegan Ajani Momodu - and who also studied Yoruba at the University - as Yoruba. |
| Re: Is It Unlaw For To Claim my mother's tribal origin In Nigeria by AureliusWolf: 10:02pm On Aug 18, 2021 |
gomojam:Yoruba thoughts and beliefs are liberal but it doesn't extend to that, because whether urban or rural, Yoruba families are customarily patrilineal in nature. Every Yoruba is born into a patrilineal clan whose members are descended from a remote common ancestor. That is the Yoruba culture and not some mere talks and canned examples you are giving. |

Christistruth00:As long as you are Nigerian, you can run for office wherever, it is the tribalistic actions of the people that is holding Nigeria back, the Constitution guarantees you the right to be all you can be anywhere in the country as long as you are a citizen of The Federal Republic of Nigeria. |

Doradorwa:No, not only Ekiti people, most Yoruba subgroup are like that. I have people like u in my family too and they are even more comfortable identifying with their mother's ethnicity. I asked if she's from Ekity because I read in a thread where u stated that you are a final student of EKSU. Do you have an Igbo name too. Would u be willing to switch into your father's identity after meeting him? Do u like identifying as a Yoruba or not? Pls, give reasons for your answers. I really feel for u, honestly. I wish u meet him soon hale and hearty. |

gomojam:I actually believe it's a little too late to switch to my father's name even of we get to meet. My husband name will be my name in few years from now. I love been Yoruba, actually it's the only identity I have so I must love it. The Yoruba culture has taught me a lot and I do not have any bad word at all. All my life has been from one Yoruba state to the other. My igbo name is onyiyechukwu but now I'm Modupeayo. I've been with the name Modupe for a very long time now. |
