Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed a sickness he has been battling with for the past 35 years.

According to him, he has been battling diabetes for years. He added that the sickness has killed his friends, but he was able to manage it.

Mr Obasanjo gave the hint on Wednesday during the closing ceremony of the Ogun State Diabetes Youth Development Camp, held in Abeokuta, Ogun state.

The camp, which was organised by Talabi Diabetes Centre, trained 21 children living with type-1 diabetes in the state on how to manage the disease.

According to a report by Daily Trust, Mr Obasanjo advised the children to manage the ailment well by maintaining good healthy lifestyle, insisting that diabetes is not a killer disease.

The former president told the children to abstain from consuming sugar, foods with carbohydrates and always take their insulin injection in order to manage the disease well.

He said: “I have been diagnosed of diabetes for more than 35 years now and here I am, I’m still going about, I’m still jumping up and down, I’m still doing many things many people of my age cannot do.

“Since I was diagnosed of diabetes, a number of my friends have died and the reason is because they just did not manage their diabetes the way they should manage it.

“It does not matter whether you are type one or type two, so far there is no cure for diabetes, maybe there will be cure before I die, but I pray that there will be cure before you die.

“You have to understand the type of food you shouldveat, you must completely abstain from sugar. The amount of carbohydrates that you take must be watched.

“Don’t miss your drugs, in your own case, your insulin injection, I take my drugs along with me everywhere I go and I always check my blood sugar level regularly. “Don’t let anybody put fear in your minds, diabetes, has no cure for now, but it can be managed.”

All honour to you, my Lord.

My Lord, may I?

If I may, my Lord, may I accentuate to dennote, my Lord.

All thank my Lord.
My Lord, of all unflibbertiggibertous musclery,my client, Olusegun Obasanma, has just vetted that he suffers from corruptionified diabetes, my Lord. A disease that's kugbosome, in toto; an illness that doesn't come unless it comes as such a legal fracture.

My Lord, may I?

I postulate, my Lord, that others in his calibre are also in for this orialism.

I'll let my learned colleagues below opine differently or in line.

My dad died of diabetes.....

Wasn't there when he gave up.... but he was a good man and I wish I studied medical lab science or microbiology to see if I could discover meds that could cure or treat it....

I hope that OBJ survives this....

In a way, I am glad that soft drinks are more expensive now

They make diseases find comfort in the body

A great advise there!

The secret to Diabetes isn't insulin.
You can't fight poison with poison. It will only become a vicious cycle and an addiction over time.

The disease is curable and reversible.

The big Pharms and Endocrinologists do not want people to know about this.

The simple trick to it is "fasting--intermittent fasting.

You can eat say, between 4-8 hours in a 24 hours window. This will help knock down some of the overflows of glucose/fructose in the body system because, at the time of the fast, the body will be forced to feed on itself thereby utilising the abundance of sugar already stored up in the bloodstream and easily convert these to energy to survive on.

Please, what is the basis of this your theory?
If fasting is the remedy, Muslims that do fast for over 12 hours straight for one full month should not be having diabetes... don't you think?

What's tha business?
