I got this car via auction with steering wheel airbag deployment.

I have successfully restored SRS to factory state, and the airbag/SRS light is now off.

I did body work & paint work externally.

@Kingreign's panel beater did the beating. 'Make I permanent am?' Only kingreign will understand this grin grin grin
In all he did well. Thanks King for staying through the panel work!!!

I did painting (just the fender) at one other paint shop.

I undertook all the SRS diagnosis and repairs and documented them in a playlist on YouTube. It's presently 4 videos. You can watch here:

I really learnt a lot through this. From importation to experience with knock-off airbag mascurading as genuine OEM. More on this later.

Yea. Thanks. Most of the audience on YouTube are in the US. Doing this here because there are certain elements that are beneficial to Naija car owners, which an oyibo man will not understand cheesy. You know our country is legendary. Reminds me of the airbag experience angry. Will update later.

Elder brother is still there o. 3 people want to buy, but for now, it's a project vehicle. There are a few repairs I want to do and feature on YouTube.

Resuming...

Got this from IAAI. Preferred the site although it has fewer car options (compared to Copart). Auction fees are cheaper, plus virtually all cars have the 360 degree views for both interior & exterior.

Thanks again Kingreign. I remember I sent you a few lots I considered to act as a 2nd eye. Thanks to Gazzuzz too. I know I disturbed you with some lots! Tuale.

Carguide handled the VIN search plus several others that I didn't buy. Eventually, I settled for the run and drive car with 69k original miles smiley.

Let me address this quickly....

After searching thoroughly in Abuja for a used OEM steering Airbag, none was found. The 2013 - 2014 use a different part number from 2015 - 2017 Accords. Apo, Gudu & Zuba did not like this news cheesy. Oga 2013 - 2017 na the same thing!
E remain small make dem abuse me, but I persisted.
Now, there are a couple evil practices airbag sellers engage in:
1. Deployed airbag modules are covered with aftermarket covers and sold angry angry angry
2. None-OEM new airbag modules are installed in Honda aftermarket cover/housing angry
Given how sensitive the SRS is, only OEM should do!

Now observe the font and attention to detail in the lettering of the deployed OEM airbag (Image 1)

Aftermarket (image 2) angry. Spelling looks more like 'AIRB AG'.

Also these aftermarket covers have no Honda inscription on their reverse sides...

I only discovered these differences after I was sent a supposed OEM from Lagos. Only for it to be the same thing.

In fact, the airbag used for the replacement video above was the knockoff angry. Didn't know at the time. Had to return the evil stuff.

Again, Kingreign gave me a different Lagos contact who supplied the genuine stuff; just what Honda prescribed. wink

Let me backtrack, a bit...

I was in the market for well over a year. Covid only made things difficult. But the real difficulty was, finding what I wanted in a new car. It had to be Honda, Accord, with the following;

1. EX orEXL.
2. 4cyl.
3. 2016 - 2017 (I could do 2015, but upgrade to aftermarket entertainment system in pursuit of Android Auto, plus a face-lift to 2016 exterior, were MUSTs).
4. Super clean.
5. Ideally, less than 100k miles
6. NO Custom duty short payment.

Will pick up on salient highlights in subsequent posts...

Modified...forgot the mileage criteria
