Olympic medals are more than just the actual medal. It is more about going down in history as one who had won it than the physical medal itself. You don't also get just a medal; you get a diploma (not every competitor even knows this) and have your name written on the wall of the host nation's stadium.

Also the prize money is alot compared to the real value of the medal. It is actually an honour to win an Olympic medal.
So whether fake or real, peeling or not, you won it is you won it. It is what it is.
