Poorly manufactured history! On what capacity did Nnamdi Azikiwe depose Olu of Warri? How did Azikiwe do that at that time as a ceremonial president?

They deposed a king for just disagreeing with an action he thought isn't in the interest of his people. He used LEGAL means of disagreeing.
We were in a democracy. The king has no right to have contrary position after his people have spoken. That is tyranny and feudalism. The king does not own his people, the people owns their king! This concept is too huge for most of you guy's brains that are not Igbo.

These are Newspaper excerpts of that particular time. Provide your own documentary evidence
The newspaper's gave the credit to Gowon cause they recognized him as the head of state, ojukwu the Eastern governor where awolowo was imprisoned was the one who released him it's simple

Btw. What do you have to say about Awo confession that he was released by Gowon, or what do you have to say about many writers that told the whole world that Awo was released by Gowon? The newspaper report is above for you to read.
They all credited the release to Gowon cause they recognized him as the head of state, even though it was ojukwu that released him , giving the glory to ojukwu could had meant they don't recognize Gowon

Igbos are the most dumbest humans on earth. Let me ask you a simple question, if Ojukwu released Awolowo as you claimed, how come Gowon invited the same person-Awolowo to his government? How come Awolowo who was released by Ojukwu was able to become Finance Minister under the same government that kept him in prison?

Read this and stop listen to those rubbish you Igbos listen to on the East to console yourselves. Below is the truth! Ojukwu didn’t release Awolowo cos he lacked power to do so. Common sense should have told you Igbos that if Ojukwu releases Awolowo against the wish of FG then, Awolowo would have been throw back to prison.
It was not Gowon's regime that imprisoned awolowo but tafawa balewa, and awolowo was never an enemy of both Gowon and ojukwu they both respected him as an elder, even while awolowo was working with Gowon, he still visited ojukwu in Enugu during that time

They all credited the release to Gowon cause they recognized him as the head of state, even though it was ojukwu that released him , giving the glory to ojukwu could had meant they don't recognize Gowon

By 1959/60 Nnamdi Azikiwe was already the Governor General of Nigeria so it’s likely he was in the federal government…. His role was largely ceremonial sha so I don’t think he even had the power to dethrone anybody.
Or in a military rule, a civilian would have the power to enthrone anybody
Nnamdi Azikiwa was just a ceremonial president, head of state, prime minister tafawa balewa was the head of government he owned the power and final say on every

Was wondering why the Olu have to inform Oba of Benin... and not Oni of ife.

Guess this article is trash.

I) For example, at timestamp 7:01 to 7:13 of this video, Chief Robinson Ariyo (the Egogo of Warri kingdom) says and I quote:

“… Yoruba, a place where we are from … our roots.”

(II) At timestamp 8:22 to 8:27 of this video, Chief Isaac Jemide (the Oshodin of Warri kingdom) says:

“… we are a Yoruba people as such.”

U know little or nothing about politics, all he needs to do was whisper into the ear of tafa/Bello, both North and East dealt with awolowo because he never agreed with them, awolowo was a one man army, u need to do more reading.

And awolowo could whisper all kinds of evil plans to a 32 yr old Gowon which Gowon followed them all, but could not whisper to him to carve Kwara and yoruba parts of Kogi into yoruba states? Everything during tafawa balewa and ziks era was done by due process constitutionally you could not just wake up one morning do something without following due process

It was not so during military regime, Gowon with the suggestion of awolowo woke up one morning and created 12 states carving oil rich igbo communities to river's and South East state, circling igbos in East central state with nothing

*How Azikiwe, an Ibo, deposed the grandfather of the new Olu Erejuwa III, who was re-instated by Awolowo, a Yoruba:*

The newly crowned Olu of Warri, Ogiame Erejuwa III, reversed the curse of his grandfather, the Ogiame Erejuwa II.

In 1963, Ogiame Erejuwa II, had taken the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Mid-West Government to court over the inclusion of Itsekiri in the newly created Mid-West region.

Ogiame Erejuwa II told the court that the Itsekiri Kingdom is part of the Yoruba nation and should have remained as part of the Western region and not included in the Mid-West region.

He argued emphatically that the Itsekiri people would like to be a part of the Western region and backed the Action Group led by Awolowo and rejected the NCNC led by Nnamdi Azikiwe who controlled the Mid-West.

Angrily, NCNC leader Nnamdi Azikiwe deposed Ogiame Erejuwa II and deported him to Ogbesse. The king then put a curse on all the Itsekiri who supported Ibo to bring the Itsekiri kingdom into disrepute. Okotie Eboh, an Itsekiri who supported the Ibo to depose the Itsekiri King would later be assassinated by the Ibo soldiers involved in the January 1966 military coup.

In 1966, Awolowo was set free by Yakubu Gowon and named the Federal Minister of Finance and the de facto Vice President of Nigeria. The first thing he did was to reinstate Ogiame Erejuwa II as the Olu of Warri. But Ogiame Erejuwa did not revoke the curse. His grandson, Ogiame Erejuwa III, has just removed the curse on the Itsekiri people.

The Itsekiri Kingdom is one of the twenty-six Yoruba tribes.

Gbemisola Aduke,
Director of Research and Development,
Young Yoruba for Freedom (YYF).

The Premier of Midwest was Dennis Osadebe not Nnamdi Azikiwe as you claimed. Osadebe was from Midwest and the Coup plotters were mostly from Midwest as well. Even though I cannot deny Igbo Deltans of being Igbo, the aim of your write up is to accuse the Southeast Igbos who had no hand in what happened. The same you writing this will be found on another thread saying the Igbos in Delta aren't Igbos.

Awolowo never betrayed the east, in fact your leaders azikwe did by joining govt with balewa whom he share nothing in common with. Ojukwu also betrayed him by declaring war before Awolowo get to West, to show the federal government that he is in bed with him. That singular act could have destroyed Lagos and drag Yoruba nation into a war we know nothing about.

Instead of Zik to face the east, he was busy looking for the downfall of the West, while he was busy doing that, Fulani was busy calving Igbo speaking people in part of Benue into Middle belt.

Do you even know Zik? His father and the ties he had with the Brits? Zik was used to tie Nigeria together until northerners get to understand what they stand to gain in the association. From inception, northerners feared domination from South, so they wanted out with their arewa.

Till date, I believe there is an element of truth that Zik had hands in the first coup. He was trying to undo his mistakes. The northerners were ignoring him cos they know he holds a useless position and they were stretching hands to reach out to Akintola who took it against Awolowo who believed in United south against north.

By 1963, Awolowo was languishing in Nigerian prison in Calabar. How did Awolowo reinstate a goon who took federal government to court 1963. Awolowo's political wings in national politics were clipped in 1962 when fellow Yoruba peeps did a political number on him. Any traditional ruler who chose to dabble in politics has always been hit hard politically.

I know as a Igbo boy you're dyslexic, as you've used the time you should have stayed in class to run after vehicles in traffic to sell gala. Op posted 1966. It may look like 1963 to you, but normal people know the difference.
