The issue was your happiness with Maria rubbing many viewers off the wrong through her acting stuck-up due to her likely knowledge of an existing informal privilege typically following light-skinned or preferably, Biracial girls, moreso in reflection of your Pro-Africanist stance. I was of the opinion that such a privilege is real and speaks to deeper and subliminal colorism issue, but it's more of an individual issue since there were actually cool light-skinned/Biracial girls on the show that blended in as best as they could, from Tboss to Princess to Nina to Gifty to Nengi.
