Does Someone Need A Court Judgement To Dissolve Their Marriage? by marcelofrancis(op): 6:36pm On Sep 01, 2021
I see different divorce cases on the news where a certain couple would pray for a law court to dissolve their marriage.
My question is this:
1). Is it only those who did court wedding that needs a court judgement to quit or dissolve their marriage?
2). Do those who didn't do court marriage need any court judgement to dissolve their marriage? Can they just quiz their marriage If they have reasons to?

If you married under the marriage act. (Church or registry) then only a high court can dissolve the marriage.

If you married under customary law then a customary court can dissolve the marriage.

Meanwhile there is nothing like a court wedding. It is a wedding at the marriage registry. No one goes to court to get married.

Church marriage without registry marriage isn't valid.

There is no evidence to back your marriage, that is why you can tender church marriage certificate in embassy for visa.

I'm surprised to know that the law takes part in dissolve of church marriages.

If there are no court wedding, then what form of marriage entitles the wife for equal distribution of the man's wealth or properties.

It is and it is supposed to be, acceptance of the proof of marriage is another matter which is entirely based on the power of the Accepter to accept or reject.

And this acceptance or rejection has no business with the validity of a marriage, exactly as those same embassies have accepted couples who were not even married as married, even where they did not show any certificate.

It's called marriage under marriage Act. The phrase "court marriage" is wrong. When u marry in the registry or in church, such a marriage is governed under the marriage act and can be dissolved by the court only. The equal distribution on wealth is not practiced under Nigerian Law. It's largely a western thing. In Nigeria you will be required to giv financial support but I don't know of any case where property and wealth has been shared equally in this country. Except off course it can be proven that there was equal contribution to the building of that wealth.

The concept of equal distribution is based on foreign media mainly and people who don't know better assumes it applies across board
