Legal or illegal, it's even dangerous. One of these local fuel stations in Igolo(their border town) caught fire some years back. Almost all vehicles , including tokunbo cars waiting to be cleared at Idiroko borderpost , packed close by were razed down by d fire. |

frozen70: This is a lie. One happened just 1km away from their part @ Igolo(Idiroko border) dt consumed several cars some years ago. |

Modrov: FYI, Nigerians are willing to pay for services rendered to them. We once had functional refineries in the olden days but pilfering by the political class made all the refineries to die. Nigerians are willing to pay for services. I wonder why our leaders do not know that our inability to refine oil for domestic consumption can lead to a serious national crisis. The Corona virus pandemic made serious countries to take self sufficiency in all matters seriously. But our darling leaders are just looking for ways to loot. It is a big shame. |

Same thing in Cameroon. Smuggled fuel from Nigeria is cheaper than petrol stations. Throughout my 30 days stay in Limbe, I have never seen a vehicle purchasing fuel from a petrol station. They buy it on the streets. Millions are employed to the detriment of Nigeria... travelwaka: |

ifud: Yes because petrol is cheaper in Nigeria than in Cameroon where it costs the equivalent of 400 naira per liter. 1 Like |

It's a sad story. It's funny how Nigeria is indirectly creating employment for our neighbors. The day this trade stops. There will be chaos and economic problem in must West African countries. Have been planning to visit Cameroon. What's the best route?? ifud: |

kachistone: Well if Nigerians are willing to pay , why has total removal of subsidy been opposed since 1993 when it was first proposed? The refineries do not work because when you sell petrol below the cost of its production, there is no money for upgrades and other stuff Plus since NNPC staff still get their salaries paid ( their salary does not depend on the profits or loss of the NNPC; they are treated as highly paid civil servants) there is no incentive to keep things working. Between those two reasons, that's why the refineries failed over two th three decades. |

Modrov: The truth is Nigerian oil magnates are just ok with getting rent from the IOC. The people profiting from the malady in the oil industry do not want it to work. And they will fight for the status quo to remain. The common wealth of the nation is in their hands. |

googlepikins: Dangote's business is different. Refineries are a different industry from retail refined products selling. NNPC downstream should establish petrol stations inside Benin Republic and keep them supplied always, that is the way to stop smuggling and also make lots of money for Nigeria. |

RiceProducers: No, their government must be dumb to allow NNPC setup filling stations there when their people can do it and come into Lagos to buy under ECOWAS or African Free trade duty free. Or better still sale through sea ways like how Ghanaian government is planning on doing |

I have watched the undercover documentary in YouTube, the fuels are refined in illegal bunkery in Niger delt3 forest, and snuggled at cheaper rate to Benin republic, so even if Government like make them commot fuel subsidy it won't affect the price of those fuel sold in Benin republic. |

Through Idina... Meaning you may have to go through Ibaka in Akwa Ibom. If your documents are intact you don't have issues. travelwaka: |
