At the end of the day, we wonder why our colleges of education end up as the dumping ground for people who the universities rejected (people who couldn't meet up with the cut-off marks).

A college of Education is expected to turn out fully qualified teachers. But when the teachers cannot express themselves in the language of instruction, what becomes of the student?

I understand your misgivings, but it would be nice, not to jump into conclusion. For you don't know the state I was , when I typed in, all that. Thanks anyways.

Patrick, you mean the salary maybe less than 3k in a higher institution?

It's a pity.

Can confirm.

Na just hype as lecturer na dey inside. I have lectured at several private colleges of health. No to keep soul and spirit together.

The good thing is that the job allows people time to do other stuff like content creation for example.

University graduates are worse. I have seen a SAN who doesn't know how to apply the past and present continues tense of the verb "BE". Here on Nairaland for instance, a lot of commentors misuse them as well; been for being and vice versa.

Thanks.

I wrote 30K, not 3K. With the exception of a few (E.g.: Covenant), most private educational institutions in Nigeria pay shitty salaries. It's better to rent a shop and start selling pepper and tomatoes than work for a Nigerian private school. That's my opinion.

Yeah sorry it was a typo error.

I didn't know it's that bad over there.

Seems some primary and secondary schools are even better.

Wrong! More than 80% of Nigerian graduates do not deserve to be addressed as such. But truth be told, an average Uni graduate is far better than a Poly or COE graduate. That's a fact!

With this comment, it's not difficult to know the kind of upbringing you had. Please direct your anger elsewhere. That you graduated from a polytechnic has nothing to do with me.

A pot calling the kettle black. What a very good upbringing you had cheesy!. As long as I do not need your University knowledge to excel in life, I'm grateful to God for graduating from either a Poly or College of Education. The illiterates are also human & many of them still have no cause to beg for crumbs at the scholars' table. Who your education help?

The Polytechnic guys seem to go straight to the point when attacking a problem. The University guys seem to apply too much analysis and accuracy to the solution. BOTH ARE INTELLIGENT IN THEIR OWN WAY.

Someone made a comment about poly grads being better than uni grads, and I responded with a contrary statement. I did not quote you, neither did I insult the person who made the comment. Only for you to call me a fool and asked me to keep quiet. Coming to a faceless forum to insult people for no reason, that's not how I was brought up. From my findings, it's not long you completed service, which means I am not your age mate. Change your ways, it'll do you a lot of good.

BTW, I don't have a problem with polytechnic education. I had poly education myself (ND and HND). I also had university education (B.Sc. Accounting and M.Sc. Management). While university curriculum is extensive, that of the polytechnic barely scratch the surface. However, my assertion is not based on this.

I stand to be corrected, more than 90% of poly students are there because they are unable to secure university admission, for their preferred course at least. The requirements for admission into polytechnic is lower than that of the university. This goes a long way in determining the quality of students these institutions get, with the universities taking the lead with the brightest students.

Let's assume that the quality of education is the same in the polytechnic and university, the polytechnics take-off from a disadvantaged position. While I have a lot of regard for education, I'm aware that the level of education is not the only factor that influences the quality of graduates. Personal abilities take precedence.

I'm sorry, sir. It seems I took it up from the surface. I just don't like it when a man's success is measured by education.
