We Have Backing Of VAT Act, FIRS Insists by Millz404(m): 5:05pm On Sep 08, 2021

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Wednesday said it has the backing of the Value Added Tax (VAT) Act to collect the tax.

Rivers State government is currently locked in a legal battle with the tax agency over the collection of VAT.

FIRS Group Lead, Special Tax Operations Group, Mr. Matthew Gbonjubola and his Digital and Innovation counterpart, Mrs. Chiaka Ben-Obi gave insight into the position of the organisation, in Abuja.

Mr. Gbonjubola explained that the bulk of VAT revenue comes from imports as well as, federal government Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) contractors.

He said that in-country VAT revenue from the states was minimal.

According to him, no state government controls any port and that as such, it would be very difficult, if not impossible for sub-nationals to collect VAT.

The desperation of the "one Nigeria" chanters stinks to the high heaven and also annoying. You don't reap what and where you didn't sow now.

We really understand that some unscrupulous elements are trying to politicise the issue of VAT collection but they can never succeed, they are only wasting their time, federal government must be the one to collect it either they like it or not

What's the best practice in developed countries that we copy their democracy?

Every State should sit up and work to better the condition of their people..

Chai...
This thing de pain them wella o.

2 things that have made the FG (North) tremble recently.

1. This VAT issue.

2. The 17 southern governors coming together to unanimously ban open grazing.

Some states will eventually merge with some other states if they really practice true federalism.

I have said it before and I will say it again.

This VAT will really expose the real parasites and it will also make all states sit up.

Buhari have infected all agencies with lawlessness

They now take their own interpretation instead of the one offered by court

What is their headache

The way they are after this shows they are the one eating the money

Is this not a case between FG and State?

Why are they foaming in the mouth as if it's their personal property

Why is authorized VAT collector causing problem if not that some States (Both northern and southern) are so useless, lazy and their Leader lacking foresight to create welth but expects stipends from FG every month.

FG collection of VAT must Stop, this will lead State Government to sit tight and wake from their slumber

It will further pave way for resource control and regional Government in turn

Taxation without consent is extortion.

The Better South (excluding Yaribanzaland and Congo Judea)will not be paying tribute to the useless FG anymore.

You idiots must find a way to survive on your own and that includes you Congo Judases as well whom I know the FIRS will bribe all your useless Senators and Reps to ensure the FIRS gets monopoly of VAT and other taxes.

You can't destroy beer in your state in the name of sharia yet share from VAT on beer from other states. It is hypocrisy.

Free money has promoted laziness. If you want to be a governor grow your state's economy.

You can't contribute humongous numbers during elections that can't translate to tax earnings for your state

If they can vote they should be able to work and pay tax.
