2020 Admissions: 405,256 Quota Unused By Tertiary Institutions — JAMB by limcar: 7:26am On Sep 09, 2021
THE Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that tertiary institutions were unable to use about 405,256 admission quota available to them during the 2020 admissions, despite the fact that many Unified Tertiary
Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates are still not admitted.

JAMB registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, speaking during his presentation at the 2021 UTME admission policy meeting in Abuja, disclosed that out of the total 925,762 of admission quota, only 551,553 candidates were admitted leaving 405,256 of their carrying capacity unfilled.

He, however, attributed this to several factors, including rigidity on the part of both candidates and institutions, where a candidate insists on a particular course like medicine, and the institution on the other hand, insisting on a particular subject combination for a course, wrong O’ Level subject combination, low post UTME screening score, UTME combination deficiency, non-acceptance of offer, duplication of application, absence from post UTME screening, mismatch of catchment institutions and no O’ Level – trial candidates.

Findings also indicated that many private tertiary institutions are under-subscribed because of high tuition fees , as such unable to fill their admission quota.

The JAMB registrar further disclosed that about 2.1 million UTME and Direct Entry (DE) candidates who took part in the 2020 admission exercise had applied to tertiary institutions across the country, including universities, polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education.

He said out of this figure, only 1,112,057 candidates scored 140 and above and also made five O’ level credit passes in English and Mathematics.

He added that a total of 925,762 quota was allocated for admissions across the nation’s tertiary institutions during the year, but a total of 405,256 spaces remained unused as of August 31.

The registrar said before the end of the 2020 admission process on October 29, 2021, the examination body hopes the figure of admitted candidates would have increased to about 600,000.

In the same vein, Oloyede disclosed that out of the 4,948 candidates who scored 300 and above, only 3,492 gained admissions into higher institutions, leaving out a total of 1,456 stranded.

Meanwhile, about 52, 323 candidates scored between 250 and 299 in the same examination, out of which 22,580 candidates were also not admitted while some 193,661 candidates out of 347,469 who scored between 200 and 249 were not offered admission.

The 2020 figure of candidates who scored 300 and above but could not gain admission indicated a significant increase from that of 2019 which is about 679 candidates.

Hehehe.

Oga you should have known better. The economy is not smiling.

The rate at which school fee's go now, most average parents are struggling to feed.

The way am viewing things now, sooner than later our youths will shun education. Parents pay millions, some borrow to give education to their children, but soon realize its a big mistake ,because these children year's after graduation are still jobless and dependent on their parents.

The government on the other hand, is bent on making the hypothesis,"school is scam" into law.

Our educational system still has a long way to go. Especially the senior secondary system, which is supposed to be the point of discovering passion of lads and propel and counsel them, is not doing a good job.
By the time we where leaving secondary school, we never knew how vast the career terrain was. Na to be doctor, engineer and lawyer dey our head.
I was shocked when I first saw UTME bronchure in 2005 (the array of courses are gargantuan).
All secondary schools should expose students to the vast wealth of career paths and let students expand their imaginations before guiding on which to go for.
With the above, most universities will have interested students and not tertiary facilities deciding where to push candidates after post- UTME.

Dull northerners. I hardly see them in private establishments like banks, software engineering firms or even private hospitals. Their lives fully revolve around government owned establishments hence why they are called parasites.

Well..this actually means that the right peole should be applying for the right courses and Nigeria should be structured in a way that anyone who chooses to study a particular course can and should be able to secure an admission.

1. Not everybody must go to the university. (Reason why we have miscreants and cultist roving about our campuses)
2. If the government had focused on education critically we would have less private schools with expensive tution fees that the normal Nigerian can't afford.
3. The government should provide a sustainable means for smart, intelligent Nigerians who are career ambitious to secure loans, scholarships to attend any school of their choice (this is how advanced countries work)
4. Schools should maintain their selection criteria for those who can meet up with it..quality of education should and must be maintained.

The problem with southerners is that they are brainwashed and programmed into accepting the new word into their dictionary and applying it to every Northerner...

The problem is if you ask most of them the meaning of quota system, they don't even know it. They are just saying it because that is one of the things they were made to believe.

They're the victims of what Chimamanda Adichie called "Single Story" They're fed up with the story of negatives.

Ndi Every Northerner Is A Product Of Quota System, Chew On This ...

Do You Remember the Pacesetter, SARKI ABBA from KANO State

In the cold hamattan of 1984, a Kano Indigene from SCIENCE Secondary School Dawakin Tofa did the unthinkable!!!

He scored 9 distinctions (8 A1 and 1 A2) in his West African Senior School Certificate (WASC) Exams. This achievement seemed unrealistic and never happened that the authorities at Lagos assumed it was a cheat.

In order to prove their assumptions right, a car was sent to pick up 16yr old Sarki Abba straight from Dawakin TOFA where he was made to retake the whole 9 exams in the duration of 3 days.

After marking the rescheduled exams, he scored 9 A1 (the only 'A2' he had in English Language before the retake, became 'A1' resulted to 9 A1)

Faced with shock, the Lagos authorities saved face by apologizing and instituting the National Merit Award making Sarki Abba its first recipient.

In 1989/90 school session, also at 21, Sarki Abba graduated as OVERALL BEST Medical Student, OVERALL BEST Graduating Student at ABU, Zaria. Sarki was then invited to U.S.A where he continued his studies, work and lives there since then.

Sarki Abba is presently a Professor of Urology and Pathology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago, USA. Also, MD, PhD, at the John T. Grayhack Professor of Urological Research.

Prof. Sarki Abba's research program is focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms that drive cancer initiation, progression and recurrence with the ultimate goal of developing therapies that interfere with these processes. His work has particularly focused on Prostate Cancer.

We are silent achievers thousand of him exist while we make no noise unlike your region of criminality and fraud

The North is far bigger in land mass & population than the South.
It has the highest number of states & local governments.
The North has some of the most powerful governors, senators, federal appointees, politicians both serving & retired in Nigeria.
The North also has the richest men & biggest captains of industry in Nigeria.
It has the highest number of military Generals both serving & retired.
The North equally has its fair share of reknown & accomplished academics in Nigeria & abroad in foreign universities.
It has reknown religious scholars & fiery clerics as well as its fair share of unrepentant religious fundamentalists, radicals, hoodlums, criminals & terrorists.
Inspite of all these, watch that whatever positions are zoned to them come 2023, they will choose, present & support their candidate seamlessly with less or no friction, rancour, dirty fight in public or the pages of newspapers & without assassinating each other. They understand politics & leadership. It's no coincidence therefore, that they have what they have. Islam is what regulates them and make them peaceful and never care to address the dirty lies, slander and insults from southerners online.
But you see this presidency of Nigeria Southerners are threatening everybody that they must have come 2023;
this 2023 presidency useless Southern governors & politicians are galivanting up & down insisting they must have -- governors & politicians whose only idea of governance is to issue press statements every month on Fulani herdsmen, cattle grazing & 2023 presidency to distract their gullible state citizens from the resources & allocations of their states they have stolen with nothing to show for it;
you will see how these Southern governors & greedy power drunk Southern politicians will kill & destroy each other just to pick & present one presidential candidate.
Watch how they will burn down the South with insecurity on the eve of 2023 as all these militias, unknown gunmen, Amotekun, Ebube Agu, ESN, OPC, Cult gangs, the various states police & vigilantes in the South will get new sponsors in these Southern governors & politicians as well as new sophisticated weapons from them as they jostle to eliminate each other & weaken the political base of their opponents to be able to pick the presidential ticket for themselves.
The sad shame however is that after destroying themselves, The Southern homeland, wasting the resources of Southern states & the lives of Southern misguided youths just to pick a presidential ticket, they will still turn back & blame the North for the destruction their unbridled greed for power for selfish ends brought on the South.
You see this Southern presidential agitations...
Well, enough said already!

We are a country without plan. You want to increase admission by 16%. Have you increased the schools' capacity by 16%? In the end, all you will get will be adulterated graduates.
