South American produces the best of the best footballers of all time eg Pele, Maradona, Delima, Neymar, Ronaldinho, Alfredo Di Stefano etc.. For Messi to thrive over all these Legends, then he's really a GOAT.

The quality of his goals last night will never be captured by dry statistics. There is a reason why no men's player in south America could score more than 77 goals before LM did it last night.
Those trying to belittle teams like Bolivia, Ecuador, Paraguay, and Venezuela do it for non-footballing reasons. Excepting Venezuela, the aforementioned teams have all featured in the WCs. In terms of footballing history, these teams have been competitive since the early 20th century. So any comparison with Lithuania, Andorra, Armenia, Malta, Luxembourg, Faroe Islands, Estonia, etc. is plain silly. These countries have never qualified for the WC or Euros (despite more slots being reserved for Europe) and they do not have footballing histories like the south American countries mentioned above. Heck, top African teams can destroy these European teams.
Most importantly, a player that practically plays as an extra AM scoring this many goals is unprecedented. Only Maradona comes close.
Congrats Leo. The GOAT

And Ronaldo set his record scoring against recognised countries like Andorra, Gibraltar, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Malta, Faroe Islands, Finland and Luxembourg. If Messi had chose Spain instead of Argentina he would have scored 200 international goals by now.

Pelé grew up playing soccer with stuffed socks and fruit. He went from obscurity to pro at 15 with no real training.

Messi and Ronaldo will never be better than him.

Can someone explain this: how is Messi now highest national goal scorer in South America when the same article says that
Only Brazilian stars Marta (109) and Cristiane (96) have scored more overall international goals in the South American continent (male and female) than the Argentina icon now.

Do you know that Messi has never played a single match without completing minimum of four dribbles But CR7 completed just 3 dribbles in Euro 2020, that sum up Messi's game, he is more than a goal scorer.

I am not a fan of both but if I am to choose it will always be Messi, CR7 is boring when he is not scoring .

You are very correct! Messi is d real GOAT. kudos to CR7 as well
damosky12:

You meant "the greatest of all time."

He is not a striker, but he scores highest.

He dribbles highest.

Highest solo goals.

Maddest play-making.

Highly entertaining to watch.

Sentiments aside, if we just choose to look strictly at what happens on the pitch and contributions to the game, it's not hard to see that Messi is the greatest of his generation. No other person comes near

That's why I choose my G.O.A.T to be CR7, since Ronaldo entered 30 years, he leveled his game up, the aim of every footballer is to score goals and he's doing it for fun, gone are days when Ronaldo go dribble pass 4 to 3 players to score but aim the target and shoot (that's goal). Change is constant
