Well, it’s deep for me. Cos we in the tertiaries bear the brunt of this mishaps. And it’s not funny. There are too many examples that’ll make you scream out of your skin.

I don’t post medical stuffs here too but i kept seeing her posts as a med and i had my doubts. Maybe out of experience, but i get worked up by quacks.

Funny, she’s not far from the truth. Ethanol gets detoxified in the liver into a more water-soluble and ‘urinable’ solvent. This is where the liver gets exposed to continous damage predisposing to Liver Cirrhosis (excessive inflammation).

The kidneys aren’t at risk. However, a heavy drinker is prone to hypertension due to artherosclerosis (damage to the blood vessels and fat accumulation) which is a risk factor for CKD (Chronic kidney disease) and intrinsic AKI due to Renal artery stenosis (ARVD).

So in a nutshell, alcohol have no direct damage on the kidneys. Although it contributes to the development of AKI and CKD indirectly (and that is highly multifactorial).

As a trained medical doctor,there are some things you should not say in the public except if you are in the midst of your fellow professionals....when you say things like "alcohol have no direct damage on the kidneys"..,it will make so many People misinterprete you and assume that even if they drink too much alcohol consistently then nothing will happen to their kidneys and that is totally FALSE...


Though i understand what you mean by the bolded because I can relate totally with the knowledge but I won't come here to brag of my achievements in the medical field...I do not like brining my offline career and life as a whole to a faceless forum..so I won't go further about that..........

Now back to the point,ethically you should not be saying that in the public....medical jargons are not only what makes you a professional medical doctor,the ability to "pass information about the medical world" to an average tom and dick says alot.....can an average street trader come to you concerning their health issues and understand perfectly what you are counselling them about??can they in lay terms understand the medical problem they are facing when you explain to them even if they are illiterate ??etc....you will be attending to clients both literate and illiterate,what also makes you a doctor is the ability to be able to educate them about their health issues in a way they can understand ,a professional medical doctor is not just about treating patients,it is also about educating patients.....
