In a country with a weak currency , web designing is not a waste of time at all

My advice to anyone reading this thread is , if you are reading this topic then by now you should know nigeria is a very useless country ! Get a skill that would help make a living ! Everybody is shouting I want to leave this I want leave this country , when you get abroad what you do want to go and do ? You think your certificate is worth anything (lol) ? I have few friends that have travel out this country leverage on the location (people trust you more to execute project with a foreign identity which they have for free ) and are making $$$$$$ , sending it back home for investment and leaving a good life abroad.

The world is Digital , learn a skill today !!!! Don’t regret it latter

No doubt , Freelancers earn more than most bankers , lecturers and even doctors .. They just sit at the comfort of their homes and earn as much as they can (freelancers have no earning limit grin) but the question is do you have a sought after skill like web development , graphics and animation , blogging and content creation and a lot more ? Having some skills alone is not enough to help the main thing is having a sought after skill

What you should be thinking of now is how to solve a problem and using an app, you coded to solve that particular problem.
Learning web design should be left for upcoming people. Dont bother your head learning just web design alone, Wordpress themes are there to solve at least 82% of those issues.

Web development is the real programming of web to be dynamic. If you know your onion and you are known, you can't be out of work. Anyone can learn web design or WordPress thingy. Where you shine the most is where you can build it ground up.
But guess what? It is more tasking, and that's why it is more rewarding.

NB: programming can't go out of fashion...for those who know it.

I think you nailed it Insight 01.There are limitless oppourtunities, its ur drive and passion to make something out of it.I just started learning web development but i strongly believe that in a yr or little more i will own my own web developemet outfit.I dont have to wait 4 a white collar job cos i will start my own firm.Yes there are a lot of designers,of which 90 percent might be crap, but it all depends on your taste and how you develop yourself.In my first month learning, i developed a site for which they paid me 70k cash.Imagine that.I aint scared that i wont get clients cos they are abundant.You just have to have some marketing skills to and be persuasive and look,talk proffessional.As a designer you could also get the job,design it and look 4 a developer to do the rest.Believe me this is the best place to be right now cos the benefits are limitless.

Forget what most of the guys here are saying. Web Design alone is useless especially n Nigeria.

If your aim is to design website alone without learning about the functioning aspect, then forget it (Nigeria). An ordinary WordPress website designers would be better than you.

Op, you're obviously doing it for the money and not really for the passion which isn't necessarily a bad thing. My advice to you is for you to find something that makes you money like a business, business like car wash, or selling of stuffs. While making money you can discover yourself.

But honestly, it is getting there and you'll be best equipped now than ever because by then, the confusion will be too much as many techs, libraries and design pattern will be in demand. Now imagine JAMSTACK... the ecosystem just dey burst bubbles...
I am a jamstack developer, but my knowledge span through other tools and techs.

As it stands now, the only reason people choose not to work with me in Nigeria is because they can't afford me NOT because they don't see the good job. My point is... learn it as it will help you develop interests in other things. The real clients will pay you your worth. Stand true to the passion and ecosystem and build a good portfolio... the best marketing in this trade is word of mouth. So try to be nice and reasonable to all no matter what. It will definitely pay off.
