Ausval:Should they channel the water through your house or which waterways/ocean will it pass through to the lagoon/Atlantic Ocean. Am not sure you are educated because this is pure foolishness. When you don't understand things, you ask questions instead displaying ignorance and foolishness in public. |

miniziter:If not released the entire dam system will be overwhelmed and will fail and dam will break.. if that happens it will lead to a disastrous flood 1000 times worse than if it was a controlled release.. |

Now I am convinced that even a lot of people on nairaland don't read. A dam is constructed on an existing waterway after the topography surrounding the river has been thoroughly studied. The dam is erected at the best location usually on a narrow portion because it doesn't make sense to erect a fence in water across a wide area( that will be foolish) and secondly the narrowing of the river increases pressure at that point especially for use by turbines to generate power. Upstream before the dam water begins to accumulate and further increases the pressure at the dam which is put to use to work the turbines. If the turbines are out of use as is usually the case and you have excess rain, the communities that are relocated during the construction of the dam will still be in danger because even though they have moved to higher ground, their homes and farms will be destroyed by the rising backlog. The only option is to occasionally release the water downstream (like taking a leak when your bladder is full) Unfortunately we have a lot of low lying areas around the course this water takes into the ocean hence the almost annual flooding. Nigeria no get the money for the technology required to solve this problem but in countries like the Netherlands, naa pikin play be this issue. |

Ausval:So far houses are built on where water should flow through, no engineering control can prevent your house been flooded when you build on the wrong location. The best thing is not to build on where water flows through. |

Suffer head citizen ...can't there be engineering control to prevent flooding out the residential area ...normally for real life , I believe say of you see me you go address me with "Sir"....your country is a failed country, they are making the people suffer the consequences of their incompetence and you that is not ignorant is clapping and supporting them ...bros sometimes ehen, gather money, apply for visa ,go other countries in Europe,America or Asia and then you go understand how things suppose dey ...you fucking stay in one country and you dey claim say you nor dey ignorant...mugu Terrence99: |

Ausval:It will cost the Government billions and billions of naira to prevent the water from flooding residential areas o. I don't think any state government will wanna spend billions on such a project yet. |
| Re: Oyan Dam Release: Lagos Alerts Residents Over Flood. by Ausval: 7:03am On Sep 15, 2021 |
And I believe this should have been in the scope before constructing a dam ...but your country is filled with myopic and incompetent leaders ...same thing still happens in constructing powerlines ,but nobody complies to the universal recommendation ,because every agency that is supposed to enforce this is corrupt DubaiLandLord1: |
| Re: Oyan Dam Release: Lagos Alerts Residents Over Flood. by smudge2079(m): 7:03am On Sep 15, 2021 |
miniziter:the integrity of the dam would be compromised "i.e there could be a total collapse" if some of the excess water coming in isn't shed. That could be a disaster |
| Re: Oyan Dam Release: Lagos Alerts Residents Over Flood. by Ausval: 7:07am On Sep 15, 2021 |
Gbam...so your country value money more than life and properties of citizens ...Shame on you , and you get mind call me ignorant, meanwhile you are the myopic and ignorant one ...bros I Don tell you, gather money , travel come Europe make you see the true definition of good governance ... Ausval:I don't think it is wise to insult people just because you live abroad. Infact those who count themselves privileged for living abroad have an undiagnosed case of deep rooted inferiority. You are a Nigerian and even if you obtain a foreign passport, your soul is still tied to the entity called Nigeria. If you like migrate to Pluto or Neptune, naa naija you be and the earlier you joined the solution train, the better for us. I am sure the London Underground had started operating before many of our grandfather's were born, but small travel una go begin shout 'saner climes ' up and down. |
