Who serves food from the back ... What about putting it on centre table or dinning table and call the person to come and eat.. obviously the person is watching an interesting program on TV..

Lol. I can relate. cheesy I do it as well sometimes and I think it's something my parents have subconsciously instilled in me, as a courtesy gesture. I don't know if it's right or wrong sha. You don't want to appear like a wild and famished animal, or that you only came to their place to eat (their) food. You no eat before leaving your house? And it depends on the kind of meeting too.

After I have initially, but 'politely' ignored the offer, I'll acknowledge and put it down beside me or on the table first, then ignore again for another round grin grin and the host will be like, 'eat your food; you haven't started eating?' 'Oh, I will eat, ma... it's hot, it's this, my stomach...This movie...' and I'll go back to watching the TV, genuinely, though. There are even some guests that will come to your house and NOT touch any of the drinks or meats you put before them. I always pray for that sha, na that one dey sweet me, because I know I'll get to deal with them later. cheesy After all, if the guests had eaten it, it won't be there anymore, so mummy, let me eat it.

It depends on different social cues sha, but as a norm, you're not going to your guest's house to eat. I mean, eating, as in your main meal and such. The food is a refreshment added to the main reason for the gathering's purpose.

It's courtesy for you to offer, it's courtesy for you to decline. Exceptions apply though.

Forming like say you be senior man no be bad thing...Even tho if you are hungry self,no rush collect the food.... Behave like someone who had got some courtesy cheesy.

I used to have a friend back then whose mom was always fond of dishing meals for me whenever I visited their place....And I was always fond of pretending, but my guy momsy was already used to the system....So most times, she go just ask me like--"obax,you wor carry the food go house abi you go eat am for here". And you can guess what I usually give as my reply grin. "Momsy, abeg dish am for takeaway for me". Las las,I go carry am go house go tear am Apart tongue

See all those ones above me. Lol grin
It even gives you away when you try to pretend. So be yourself.

For me it depends where I am.

If it's at a friends' that eats at my place. It's inside your kitchen I'll tanda till the food don and I'll be the one to tell you how to put the food for me. But if I'm not free with you, I will reject the food and no matter how tempting it is, I'll never be moved.

The only place I can even do such is at parties where I know I should comport myself.

Think it's more of an African courtesy thing

Our forefathers taught us some good manners

Isn't this better than the alternative of breathlessly gasping for whatever you're offered, as if one hasn't seen food for DAYS?

It's courtesy... People treat you the way you carry yourself undecided... Depends also, on the kind of visit ; formal or informal

It's called self respect, everyone is hungry but you have to respect yourself so as to accord respect by your hosts.

This I have seen.

It's called self respect and has nothing to do with being hungry or not, you don't expect
first timer to start rushing food like a fish.....
