1.How many restaurants did you visit in both Borno and Rivers before you made the assumption that 'Borno pays no vat'.?

2.Did you interview the owner of the restaurant in Borno about his VAT paying habits...whether he pays VAT separate from the price on food.?

3.Have you done a study on the VAT paying habits of restaurants in Borno vs Restaurants in Rivers?

4.Have you also done a study on VAT per state in the country?

5.Are you also aware that there is a war on in Borno, and VAT colelction may not be as effective as in the relatively peaceful Rivers?

I hope you have some decent answers OP...and no , I am not here to fight you...I jsut want the facts on which you assume that Borno pays no VAT...

Because I can assume, using your method, that a single girl in your village who sleeps around means all the girls in your state are prostitutes, or a single boy in your village who steals means all the boys in your village are thieves.
be intelligent , prove him wrong with tangible evidence.
I personally experienced Hausa-Fulani not conforming to electricity bill payment and tax.
Kindly upload a pictures of your research and make and enquiry like you ask him to,upload the video on YouTube and post the link here to refute his claim.
Until then you are the wailer here.

You can go and do those ones.

Meaning you have no facts at all to back up your assertions.

You fail statistics forever.

So, using your method, if a young woman in your village lies, we can assume everyone in your village is a liar.

Good evening, and grow up. What you are doing is wrong, and the sad thing is that you will go to church on Sunday and call yourself a Christian. Or a morally good person. And before you start...I don't support APC, i NEVER voted for Buhari, I think that states should colelct whatever tax they want, but lying is not good.

And you sir...are a liar and a bigot.

It is not collecting. What evidence do you have that they are not paying?
Also, they may be collecting but not showing it on the receipt. FIRS dey collect VAT in Borno.
but it is always on the receipt Even in Abuja........ There is no excuse here.

So one resturant=the whole of Borno state?

And you are calling me unintelligent?

OP is basing his assertions on the habits of one resturant. That's not how to do a proper study. He would have taken a sample of resturants in both states and compared...and done a proper study doing facts.

And the sad thing is that when I asked him for more data...he turned me down...because he does not have the date.

So attached are two food receipts from restaurants in Maiduguri Borno state and Portharcourt Rivers state where I went to eat.

It clearly shows VAT are collected in Rivers, but not Borno and most other northern states. I have been to Adamawa, Yobe, Kebbi, Taraba, Bauchi and host of other northern states.

NOTE: I took the pics myself. First one is from Maiduguri, while the second is from portharcourt; and they re all from this month.
OP, you are the one making the mistake here. The finance act 2020 has removed the burden of registering and charging VAT from small companies. Small companies are those that have an annual turnover of less than 25 million naira. A small company in Nigeria thereby has the option of not charging and remitting VAT to the FIRS. It is possible the restaurant in Borno is a small company while that in PH is a large company. It is also possible that the company in PH is a small company and has chosen the option to charge and remit VAT or they don't just know.

Calm down bro.

Some states tax systems isn't fully explored. They are lots of tax that you should pay that you aren't paying. For VAT on restaurants, be sure that Borno State IRS hasn't gone for those taxes. Their tax system is still being developed to fully collect all necessary and required tax. I know this because we are tax consultants to Borno State Government.

You might have to visit www. birs. bo. gov. ng to see the taxes that are automated at the moment. We are working on onboarding all taxes. But you should know they collect VAT but may not have started visiting restaurants.

Op olodo...no VAT on selected basic food items. You must be a graduate without knowledge.

If you are knowledgeable, When you were charged in Portharcourt, you were supposed to know that they are doing the wrong thing in Rivers, while Borno doing the right thing.

The moderator that brought this to front page should be sacked.

I can see bandwagon comments too. Most just went to school, but zero knowledge clouded by tribalism and religion.

Bros u well so? how does catering service qualify as a food item? You even added a kpmg interpretation negating your argument, check yourself man

Okay...

That means that when you are doing a study on say 'Prevalence of people who read newspapers in your town',,...all you just do is interview one person in your house, and assume that everyone in your town buys a newspaper and reads it, including the babies.

Got it.

Also, I can safely assume that , using the methods that the OP you are defending is using, just because the Police caught a thief from your village, therefore, everyone in your village is a thief

OP is making assumptions on the VAT paying of a state from a single resturant receipt...a single resturnat reciept from one resturant....and you are hailing him as the second coming of Einstein.

And you are calling me unintelligent?

Right.

So, Borno pays VAT ?

The question isn't right. States do not pay Tax. The question should be, so Borno collects VAT? Or is VAT collected in Borno States? Which is yes. For all government issued contracts including state government contracts, VAT is deducted at source. Most states especially northern states stick to this and don't bother (Maybe for the moment) to go out there and collect tax as they should.
