Boko Haram Kills 5 Igbo Traders


Suspected Islamists have killed seven people in a market in northern Nigeria’s restive city of Maiduguri in the latest deadly attacks in the region, police said Thursday.

According to reports, five of those killed are Igbo traders.

“There was an attack yesterday afternoon at Monday market. Some gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram stormed the market around 1330 hours disguised as customers,” Borno state police commissioner Bala Hassan told AFP.

“They opened fire on some shops selling insecticides and mosquito nets, killing seven traders,” he said, adding that no arrests had been made.

“The shooting caused confusion in the market, which gave the attackers the chance to escape unnoticed before the arrival of security personnel,” he said.

Today’s inauguration of this gigantic factory marks an important milestone in the local foam manufacturing industry, not just to Gombe State but for Nigeria as a whole.

“It is also of great significance to the promotion of good health and household comfort as the company is expected to manufacture sufficient products that will meet the demand of the whole of North-Eastern states and beyond.”



While commenting on the imperative of the factory, the governor urged farmers in the state to cultivate raw materials that would increase production of foams.


“People should also venture into all kinds of legitimate business so as to take advantage of the numerous reforms in order to attract investors to the state.

“I want to specifically call on our sarmers to cultivate both Food and Cash crops for self-sustenance and provision of sufficient raw materials for investors,” Yahaya said.

On his part, Chief Executive Officer of Hara Foam, Cosmas Ugwu, said that he was motivated to invest in the state by the friendly government policies.


According to Ugwu, the peaceful nature of the state, and the population were business indicators that drove him into establishing a factory in the state.

“I wish to thank the governor for creating a fertile ground for investment in Gombe State. This facility has capacity to produce 5,000 mattresses per day and 3,000 pillows at full capacity, with option for expansion.

“No less than 1,000 Gombe youths will be employed in this factory and 5,000 across the North-East. This will not only reduce unemployment, it will help to reduce crime rate and other social vices.
