I stumbled on a thread about a husband complaining of his wife's habit of kissing their 6 month old boy in the mouth. The comments was almost one-sided against the OP and supporting the act, hence i see nothing wrong in a mother kissing her baby, it doesn't come without it's disadvantages.
This is the link for thread https://www.nairaland.com/6776450/told-wife-not-kiss-6-month-old

I was in this ship not too long ago when severally, i'd found my wife kissing our boy in the mouth and making gestures at it. She'd often tell the baby to 'kiss daddy', and the baby would draw his lips to kiss me, but i would decline.

I told my wife to desist from the act but she woudn't listen, so i gave her a timeline to stop immediately the baby turns one year. I don't know if she has stopped the act, but she doesn't do it anymore in my presence but i noticed that my boy (who is 2 years this past month) would open his mouth and tries to kiss me each time we were together, he would request for it more often, i'd simply show him my cheeks to kiss (peck), and guess what? He had already started twisting his tongue while kissing my cheeks.

Are there no other ways to show motherly affection asides kissing directly in the mouth? Who knows if our boy is doing this to any other person? Who knows if he would repeat the act to our maid? It's true the baby is naive, but there is a clear consequences and it can go horribly wrong in a hurry.

This is for those supporting the act and bashing the OP, there is a clear consequences to this act and mothers need to stop immediately or atleast put an end when the baby approaches one year.

Your case is not at all like that of the other OP, so don't attempt to equate them.

Back to your thread...
What do you mean when you say the baby has already started twisting his tongue while kissing your cheeks? undecided
What is it you are afraid of where your 2-year old is concerned? undecided
Do you give your boy to any other person you are afraid might take advantage of him? undecided
Have you asked your maid? undecided
You suggest that it can go horribly wrong, meaning? undecided

the comments on the first page of the thread u are talking about were very irritating. the act wasn't only normalized, the bashing and insults they rained on the OP got me wondering how people reason when a woman is involved

the annoying part was the fact that most of those useless comments supporting the woman were made by so called men.
"Turn the table," that's, it's the man and his daughter.
and watch how fast those godforsaken simps wld hang him.

the most irritating part of the of the situation and reactions was the fact that the op said there's a little girl staying in their house who sees this and might want to try. yet he asked to see a doctor. SMH mother's love indeed

if you're not concerned that little boy would go around trying to kiss strangers then i am. Maybe you're still single to know that kids copies everything!! Every damn details, and they would act it!! i have reasons to be worried.

Are we supposed to be the only one who handles or stays with my boy?

Should i ask my maid? Like wtf man!! embarassed

Are you saying his boy came out of the womb knowing how to kiss?
how are they not alike?

Look, I have a sister whose youngest boy only turned 3 barely 2 months ago. He still kisses his mom on the lips - all 3 of her sons still kiss her on the lips, and the oldest is about 8 years of age. The 3-year old toddler, even when he was 2 didn't go about kissing the lips of strangers, not even his grandmother's lips, let alone the lips of others in the extended family. He strictly does this with his dad and mum, to this day. undecided

If you feel your child is a kid that goes around kissing strangers on the lips, then you should probably keep your child away from strangers. Ask the maid if you don't know what your child in fact does, and help keep your child safe from strangers until it is better able to learn who to kiss and who is a No No undecided

um.... the other Op admitted that his main reason against his wife kissing his son in the mouth was because he was molested as a child and he didn't want it happening to his child. Why he was afraid of the housemaid. You didn't comprehend that part of his Op at all before commenting, did you? undecided
Please I need advice from experienced parents.

I was abused sexual as a child by a cousin staying with us and there are cases of incest around me. I don't want any of this to happen to my son.

This has nothing to to with future, and mothers kissing their babies on the mouth is nothing new. undecided

My own mother kissed most all her babies on the lips as far back as the 80s during which she has most of them. I know because I watched her and helped her care for them too. None of them went off kissing strangers. None of them ended up molested by strangers since she never left them unattended nor did she abandon them with "strangers". undecided

You want to blame whatever unconfirmed fears you have of your son kissing strangers on your wife showing him love and affection, go right ahead. She is your wife wife and he is your son after all. undecided

Meaning his head is really messed up right? what a pity sir/ma.

so the mental health of parents, especially mothers who doesn't allow male home tutor for their daughters Especially when they are not at home to monitor them is messed up right? they also need to see a doctor abi.

or it's only those parents that were abused in their youthful age that should see a doctor?

My wife is fond of kissing my 6months boy in the mouth. I personally don't like this and I have told her to stop it but she refused.

it has something to do with the future and equality and everything because if your dad wasn't okay with it then, trust me the chances that he would be able to stop it is at least 75%

1. that was in the 18s Sir/ma. times have changed/changing. children learn faster now. the society have evolved and everyone is careful and skeptical.

2. its a good thing u acknowledged the fact that your mum never abandoned her kids with strangers. she was always there.
I hope the op's wife would always be there
I hope she do away with nannies especially young House helps (and if she does, she monitors them always)
recall there was no day care in the 80s

mothers kissing their children is nothing new doesn't make it right. or doesn't make the person who doesn't like it wrong. at least there should be a limit

Lip kissing isn’t very sanitary IMO. I know yes she’s the mom and yes she breastfed but oral flora does change with time and the kid doesn’t need that big of a bacterial load for whatever reason.
There’s no reason to do it.
Just kiss them on the face IF YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO.

from your reasoning/comment, it's obvious that if parents that don't allow male tutor for their daughters tell you about their molestation story, ur type will say they are paranoid.

OP... I did not want to say anything on this before because the matter has been over flogged... but I have to explain certain things about kids,
Kids normally outgrow certain behavior and character.. U were once a kid, there are certain thing u remembered doing@ 7 that u can never dream of doing now ...
Time will come when he will be embarrassed that you were even taking him to school...He will want to be independent and will not want to be seen acting like a mama/daddy 's boy in front of his peersangry

Cherish whatever moment/ memories you have with him now. because time shall come when u will want those bonding, but it will not come...U will be wondering where time has gone with your baby....Have a good day smiley...

From the way majority bashed the OP from yesterdays thread one can deduce that we have a lot of idiots in this country.
I don't see why a baby should be kissed on the lips by its mum peck on the checks or forehead is fine.
Kissing your baby on the lips isn't about care or love.
