Often when I claim Buhari is very weak, it is because I thought he would be like OBJ who dealt with his obstacles unconstitutionaly but then, Nigeria's democracy has advanced far beyond that Era. Baba had to calm down after they wasted his efforts several times. Even now with the National assembly largely behind him, there is very little he can do when it comes to reforms.

BlackBaron:

No denying there aren't underlying issues in other parts of Nigeria with ideological issues binding them. E.g I believe cultism is a simmering issue that could threaten the fabric of society and state if not curtailed and actors, sponsors, jailed before their cancer spreads.

That the North is mentioned often is just down to current dynamics and the level of funding deployed to shut down threats to almost no avail.

The NASCO revelation for example, should have been exposed and adequate actions taken.

I do not know much about the NASCO issue and as such wouldn't want to say anything on it except to ask why there wasn't a conviction in 2005 when the case was first taken to court and why the owner's name was eventually removed from the US and UN sponsors of terrorism list.

There is some diplomatic tensions with france , they reduced to half the number of visa delivred for algerians , moroccans and tunisians as firdt step .

Also the french president released anti-Algerian declarations . to seduce french voters from the extreme right politic side, a politic move for the french elections which will be held soon.

Algeria recalled its ambassador in France, and decided to close its airspace to the French military aircrafts which operate in the Sahel

This was in 2016 when DSS was raiding the homes of judges and gathering evidence against them.

What eventually happened?

And this

Not surprising as the senate president and many law makers were also battling anti-corruption cases around that time.

Mind you, the Chief Justice of the federation at the time was eventually charged with fraud and was advised to resign by the judicial council.

Now when 3 of the 4 arms of government are against one, how is the one expected the win?
(the fourth is the media wink)

Who is the Chief Justice you're talking about?

Mr Onnoghen’s resignation follows the recommendation of the National Judicial Council for his early retirement.

The recommendation was sent to President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday.

https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/324122-embattled-cjn-onnoghen-resigns.html

TheCable reported that” ‘he turned in his resignation letter to President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday evening, a day after the National Judicial Council (NJC) recommended that he be compulsorily retired for misconduct.’

The National Judicial Council, NJC, on Wednesday, said it has forwarded the outcome of its investigation into corruption allegations against the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen, to President Muhammadu Buhari, for action.

https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/04/onnoghen-resigns/amp/

The resignation, TheCable understands, was the “best possible option” for Onnoghen under the current circumstance.

It will also save Buhari from having to get two-thirds majority of the senate to confirm Onnoghen’s retirement as stipulated in Section 292 (1) of the 1999 constitution which says a “judicial officer shall not be removed from his office or appointment before his age of retirement except in the following circumstances – (a) in the case of – (i) Chief Justice of Nigeria… by the President acting on an address supported by two-thirds majority of the Senate.”

Buhari may not be able to muster the needed majority.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, will today inaugurate three new security exercises nationwide.

Army spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, in a statement Sunday, named the exercises as “Golden Dawn’’, “Enduring Peace’’ and “Still Water’’.
He said this was to effectively check all forms of criminality and allow for free movement of persons as the Yuletide and end-of-year activities approached.

He said the COAS would symbolically launch all the exercises today at Ovie-Emene, Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, venue of “Exercise Golden Dawn’’.

He said the exercises were Field Training Exercises (FTEs) routinely conducted yearly by the army.

“The FTEs will equally provide a platform to sharpen the skills of participating troops on the conduct of Internal Security Operations.

“The exercises will run concurrently at 2, 6, 81 and 82 Divisions Areas of Responsibilities (AOR) in the Southwest, South-South and Southeast regions, respectively.

“They’ll also be conducted at Headquarters Command Army Records, 401 Special Forces Brigade and Guards Brigade Areas of Responsibilities in the North-Central states of Kogi, Benue and the FCT, respectively,’’ he said.

The president suspended Onnoghen, he couldn't have removed him without 2/3 majority from the senate, the Judicial council recommended the early retirement of the CJN, he REDIGNED instead....
He could have fought back if he was innocent, the president would still have to go to the senate to get him removed but he resigned.

He was accused of false declaration of assets not relationship with Atiku.

Mr Umar issued the ex parte order on January 23, 2019 preparatory to the trial of then CJN on charges of failure and non-declaration of assets earlier filed against him by the Federal Government, through the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

While being prosecuted at the CCT, Mr Onnoghen was also going through disciplinary proceedings at the National Judicial Council (NJC).

Just before the CCT trial came to an end, Mr Onnoghen tendered his letter of voluntary retirement.

On April 18, 2019, the tribunal convicted him and, as punishment, ordered his removal from office, barred him from holding public office for 10 years and ordered the forfeiture of the undeclared assets.

This is from the link you provided. Why would anyone even accuse him of knowing Atiku, how's that supposed to be a crime?
He cleverly left the major issue and was playing ethnic and political cards.

Only the FG prosecuting him will make me believe all this.

Southern House of Assembly pass a law on anti grazing, the federal government is saying such a law is not possible? Can you imagine that kin of statement in a federal system of government

The Attorney General is backing Miyatti Allah on their quest to go to court and sue the Southern Governors

He has been prosecuted already. The CCT ordered the forfeiture of the undeclared assets and also barred him from being in any public office for 10 years.

And the federal government cannot stop the state from enacting such laws, if they shout from now till forever it changes nothing. They could go to court to argue the legality of such laws but the chances of winning such a case is extremely slim.

Now let's stop derailing and focus on military discussions.

Secular state not circular...
Pls leave law for lawyers and those other proffesionals...
Nigeria does not practice Sharia law in it's true form...
After the amalgamation of Nigeria...
The criminal code was introduced in Northern Nigeria, the problem it faced was it didn't recognize offences like wine drinking and fornication. Later the premeirs of Northern Nigeria fought against and subsequently a panel was established comprising of Abu ranat the former chief justice of Sudan where a code like the one operated in india ( India had problems similar to Nigeria beacuse it had Hindus and muslims)was to be recommended ie. The board should recommend 100 percent Islamic law
Or hybrid of Islamic and English law 50/50
Or to maintain the then status quo 100 percent English law ..
Subsequently the board recommended hyburd of both laws. Where all acts punishable in Islam are recognized but punishment are prescribed according to English law and thus the emergence of "penal code " eg. In penal code Section 288- 289 adultery is punishable by a term of imprisonment which may extend to two yrs or with fine or both
From the north the criminal code seized operation and was transferred to the south.
Now all the laws u see in Northern Nigeria whether it is the Harmonized Sharia penal code .
Or the Kaduna state penal code all conform to the standard of penal code....
Even though provision of harmonized shariah penal code prescribe stonjng to death for adultery... It is is only a face punishment not meant to be carried out...
Till date no one convicted of adultery under those laws i.e harmonized shariah law have been stoned to death...
Infact most cases under these state laws have failed on appeal on the ground that ,
Constitutional principle of fair hearing was not upheld S36 see the case of saffiyyatu Hussein v. AG sokoto state. Amongst other technicalities...
The only difference the state laws brought different from the Penal code and criminal code act is
Just increase in the punishment recognised for example in criminal code indecent assault with two years but in Kaduna state penal code S.260 punishes with not less 14 year imprisonment and a fine of not less than 100 thousand naira.
But in application you can't inflcit punishment more than the other one prescribed for in penal code..

This buhari's regime is just messed up, you people should stop giving excuses, there is a major religious and ethnic imbalance, and they aren't hiding it. If not that certain elements of non state actors are growing out of control, and they are forced to act, Nigeria would effectively be a master slave relationship, with efcc and the police ( SARS) as the enforcers, with clear differences in the way they operate like armed robbers in the north and south divide.

Regarding the problem of outranging the enemies and effectively taking out enemy guntrucks outside of the enemies firing range, I would suggest the Army go for the ZSU-23 family of guns, majority of those currently operating the ZSU-23-4 shilka will be looking to retire them in the not too distant future, the Nigerian Army can offer to buy them in large quantities for base defense at lower cost then order for the ZSU-23-2 and fix on MRAPs and APCs, this will temporarily serve the role of IFVs until the Army is able to purchase better platforms (probably BMPT Terminator). The 23mm ammo of the ZSU will shred the terrorists guntrucks at 2km while the terrorists will not be able to engage until they are within 1500m. The terrorists used to mount the ZSU-23-2 on their guntrucks but it seems they have ran out of stock or at least have very few quantities left, majority of their guntrucks are now armed with HMGs and GPMGs.
Reason I suggested using the shilka for base defense only is because it is very slow and will be easy for the enemy to capture in a situation where the unit needs to manouvre fast.

On 6 July 2020, Magu was arrested for corruption charges related to finances he allegedly embezzled for, among other among things, supporting his lavish living and traveling expenses.[20] twenty-two corruption allegations were reported against Magu in June 2020 as well.[21] Following his arrest, Magu remained in custody.[20]

On 7 July 2020, Magu was suspended as the chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) because of corruption allegations leveled against him.[22][23][24]

The panel had specifically recommended that Magu should be removed “for failing to properly account for N431,000,000.00 security votes/information fund released to the office of the Executive Chairman of EFCC between November 2015 and May 2020”. The panel also recommended that Magu should be referred to the inspector-general of police for “necessary disciplinary action”. [1]

That week, President Buhari convened an investigative panel led by Justice Ayo Salami.[25] In late November the panel presented its report (the "Salami Report"wink confidentially to President Buhari.[25] Two weeks later President Buhari released the report which cleared Magu of the charges, and indicated that there had been a plot to discredit Magu in order to stop his anti-corruption activities.[26] It is suggested[26][27] that Attorney General Abubakar Malami was involved with the plot, in part because of the animosity he showed towards Magu, and his direct action writing a letter to President Buhari on 5 June 2020 entitled "Flagrant abuse of public office and other infractions committed by Mr Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission".

Even though Magu was cleared of all charges, he was not returned to his post as the EFCC chairman.
Onnoghen on the other hand could have appealed the case against CCT like Saraki did but he chose voluntary resignation.

Babachir Lawal is also another example, he was sacked as the secretary to the government of the federation following allegations of misappropriation of funds and his case is still in court today but since it doesn't suit agenda, it is not relevant.

The FG can't keep quiet about Sharia in Nigeria, but supporting Miyatti Allah in going to court to challenge Southern Governors on the anti grazing bill law.

A Southerner have the right to drink beer in Kano if Miyatti Allah feels they have the right to be walking up and down with cows all over the country.

A court have even proscribe the movement of cows all over Nigeria as illegal, and nobody appealed it.

It is southern governors that are playing politics with the issue, after receiving #100 billion to establish grazing reserves in 2014,they refused to build the grazing reserves and are now playing to the gallery in 2021.
I'm very much in support of the ban on open grazing, there is nothing the federal government can do about it other than going to court but the state governments should also return the #100 billion given to them in 2014,it is injustice and corruption.

How do you enforce the ban on öpə grazing? . İt is a stupid law. You cannot enforce it without spending at least N600k per case.
Ondo State says they have arrested 180 cows. It is a laughable disgrace.
They have to transport the cows, hold the cows and feed the cows whilst arraigning the 3 or 4 people before the courts. They cannot hold them for more than 24 hours without trial, so bail comes in. How do you arrange bail for an intinerant cow herder?
Nigeria is calling herself a stupid country in the committee of nations because people are playing to the gallery, want to win every argument and our afraid of hybrid solutions

Someone is already wailing on behalf of the Ondo State Government, even though the Ondo state Government is not complaining grin

If you get cow, just carry am go waka on the street of Akure so you go know if the State Government have the capability of dealing with you or not.

Your wailing starts and end on Nairaland.
