Finally got to see Dave Chappelle's "The Closer" and while it felt more like a social commentary than an actual stand up, i thought it was a brilliant work of art and so i am out here wondering why it was generating this much smoke in the LGBTQ community. It still has me baffled. All his jokes and opinions about these people have always been centred around the racial injustice as against the rights of LGBTQ. Comedy is clearly not for the person reading other meanings to what Dave rant about these people, I have seen alot of stand ups and i have heard worse than these jokes. Would it still have generated this much smoke if Dave was White? I doubt it. We can all joke about God, Allah, Muslim been terrorist, Preachers been molesters etc and everybody has a laugh and sing kumbaya, but when a single joke is said about the LGBTQ community, their ears suddenly become brittle?.

Dave said it best in "Equanimity" when he said "If my jokes makes you wanna beat up a transgender, then you probably a trash person in the first place and you shouldn't come to my show anymore". So these people should take a chill pill and reflect on what is really bothering them.

Funny because Dune inspired the bolded and Tolkien wasn't really a fan as he was an harsh critic of the piece. As for GOT, GRRM called it an ancient dune

My bad then, probably I didn't do my research well.

HBO had about 41 million US subscribers...When HBOMax announced their subscriber numbers, every HBO subscriber was included whether they were actively streaming HBOMax or not...
What we know for a fact is that Godzilla and his smaller bro(Kong) added around 2 million subs to HBOMAX.. HBO also has around 100 million subs world wide...When HBOMax rolls out completely world wide, those subs will become theirs too...At&t has decided not to release their Latin America subscription numbers to the best of my knowledge so far...
Their heavy bankers as at now remain their Game of thrones I.p's along with The last of us..
Until then, Hbomax is still in the same waters as every other streaming service bar Netflix..

Bro I no get strength for this back and forth.
Nah, HBO didn't have that high subscriber base in the US at launch. I verily remember they were less than 30 million subs early 2020.
When AT&T report numbers for the platform they explicitly show numbers for only HBO subs and HBOMax. Then they also give out the combined subs. Users who haven't activated HBOMax but are HBO subscribers are clearly demarcated. Core users who subscribed HBOMax without prior sub to HBO is also stated.
The last quarter reporting had 4 million HBO Only subs. Active HBOMax subs 40mn thereabouts. Retail users= subscribers without prior HBO (14 MN). Total HBO/HBOMax subs in US = 44.6 MN.
So dead that thought of who was actively streaming. They give out those numbers regularly.

HBO Doesn't have up to 100 million subscribers worldwide. At best it's 88 million subs. Asia and the rest of the world is about 44mn IIRC.
Wonder Woman 1984 brought in about 2.2 MN subs in December.

How do you expect them to release Latin America subs when quarterly reporting can't capture data since HBOMax was launched in the last 3 days of the said quarter. undecided you'd see that in the next quarter report.

HBOMax is doing really well even without its big IPs. Imagine what It'll do when they become available. Platform isn't even totally Global.

Okay

The last quarter reporting had 4 million HBO Only subs. Active HBOMax subs 40mn thereabouts. Retail users= subscribers without prior HBO (14 MN). Total HBO/HBOMax subs in US = 44.6 MN.

In the breakdown of subscribers, 30.9 million are “wholesale” customers who subscribe to HBO and get HBO Max for free as a result, while 9.7 million “retail” customers subscribe directly to the $14.99/month HBO Max itself. AT&T did not break out the number of “activations” of HBO Max accounts by those who already have HBO, as the company has done in previous earnings reports.
There Q1 report..

Q2 report - HBO Max and HBO have 47 million U.S. subscribers, AT&T revealed in its second-quarter 2021 earnings report Thursday. That’s up from the 44.2 million combined subs the WarnerMedia parent company reported for its premium cable channel and streaming service at the end of Q1.
Per AT&T, HBO and HBO Max added 2.8 million domestic subscribers by the conclusion of the quarter ended June 30, with subscriptions up 10.7 million year over year. Worldwide, HBO and HBO Max hit 67.5 million, which is up 12 million over last year.

So dead that thought of who was actively streaming. They give out those numbers regularly. (This is irrelevant, My whole point has been HBOMax is on par with other streaming services currently except Netflix..)

HBO Doesn't have up to 100 million subscribers worldwide. At best it's 88 million subs. Asia and the rest of the world is about 44mn IIRC.

Even your data is contradictory. I said HBO doesn't have up to 100 million subs Globally.
And you giving me data during its peak 2017. You forgot that's 2017 and they must have lost subs. undecided
Even at that HBO usually combined subs for HBO, HBONOW and Cinemax during those years to get such numbers.

HBO didn't even have more than 30 million subs when Max in may 27/ 2020.

I didn't want too much Shalaye cos I deleted most of my screenshots and data of HBOMax numbers during my last storage cleanup. Maybe na because I dey drop numbers without source and screenshots that's why you think I'm pulling figures outta my as$. I no even know Wetin start this argument sef.

41 million US subs was by December 2020 after HBOMax launch. Not before Max launch.

The ending felt like they were just trying to extend the run time. I thought the story was over but then she drives the ambulance to catch Gerard Butler. I thought OK, him being arrested or killed will be the end but nah, they just drive separately while singing the same song. That's it. Terrible ending.

First off, my data can't be contradictory because it happened in 2017 which was HBO's peak year..I'm more inclined to believe it gained a few more subs between 2017 -2020 than believe it lost about 43 mill subs like you're saying..

According to your screenshot in which the tweet by Fernando was made in April, he says 30.9 m upgraded to HBOMax, this corresponds with what I wrote earlier...

30m subs as at the Q1 were HBO subs that had access to HBOMax...

My point is acting like HBOMax is doing better than it's competitors is false, streaming at this stage is still hit and miss...
Only Netflix has it on steady lockdown for now...

We have access to the same information...
What Im saying is that HBOMax is on par with Disney+ so far...One can't categorically say one has been very much successful compared to the other...
Different factors all come into play...One thing's for sure though, they are both growing really fast...
Even Paramount+ is doing its own little thing..

Why I said your data is contradictory is cos we are talking about current data. If you even wanted to bring old data it should kinda be from 2020 ending to any point in 2021. Not three years old data.
I'm well aware of HBO's over 100 million subscribers during its peak years (2017-19). Saying they have such amount of subs now is wrong when it's just about 70mn.
I didn't argue with you where bulk came from. I even stated they got about 30mn in our initial chat. You were the one claiming it's more than that with 40mn figure.

According to your screenshot in which the tweet by Fernando was made in April, he says 30.9 m upgraded to HBOMax, this corresponds with what I wrote earlier...

Off course, some people who wanted to subscribe to HBOMAX services could sub to HBO confusing it for the new streamer since having premium subscription of either gives you Access to all.
There were people who had issues back then with the naming of the streamer as it confuses some and most people associate both as one.
But specifically, on HBOMax launch date it was not up to 30mn subs.

My point is acting like HBOMax is doing better than it's competitors is false, streaming at this stage is still hit and miss...
Only Netflix has it on steady lockdown for now...
Oga pls, show me where I categorically made it seemed like HBOMax were better than other services. Did I even mention Netflix in any off my statements?
You are the one who seems to want an argument. I was only giving statistics and plans of a streaming service which me and Pu7pl3 had vested interest in. I don't know how you jumped into the fray.

Bro you just want fight. It's well documented online how much subs HBO continually lost after their premiere show GOT ended. It's a well known fact HBO massively loses subs anytime the show is over.

Pls endeavour to make grounded research on what you're saying before making specific statements. You're just showing your bias.
