What was the political atmosphere like then?

If you have read different accounts of the Civil War, you will understand that the North wanted to break away after the first couple, but changed their mind when one of them(Gowon) took over.

I am not for or against anyone, but the question I asked is, if in this situation of things, this oil happen to be in the north, do you think One Nigeria will still fly?

And to let you know, until recently I strongly defended ipob and MNK on this forum and elsewhere, to the point of heated disagreements with my friends.
And for a long time, I didn't ever want to believe that IPOB would harm fellow Igbos in the name of Biafra MNK.
I never ever listened to radio Biafra because I thought it just garbage being dished out IPOB sheeples. The day I decided to listen for 30 mins of MNK and his minions was the day I got the greatest shock. IPOB in their broadcasts, are not shy about carrying out terrorists acts against perceived enemies in Igboland. That broadcast brought me to me senses. I since written them off as a bunch of dimwits, psychopaths, fraudsters and criminals. Unfortunately, in Igboland, they are showing their true colors.
