Truthissupreme: They want to return more money and be praised as doing something. JAMB may still win this case against NUC. |

treesun:you are right NUC may not even bother going to court I guess that's why Jamb has done their work for them But it's illegal |

milann: First of all, the heading is wrong. They are not stopping varsity from running whatever program, they only insisting that all program must be routed through writing jamb. The only way to qualify for any academic program is to pass jamb, be it distance learning, sandwich, part time or what form it takes. However, i guess this became pertinent after Minister of Education released the new policy of granting students funds to study. Well, I hope they thought this through as the number of non admissible students is about to skyrocket. Students of nowadays were not keen about schools before, most of the ones that gets admitted often sort or bribe their way till they graduate, while many more fall out due to low GPA and this will only resonate their laziness to use their brain and learn. 1 Like |

In my opinion, Jamb is a relic from the past that ought to have been scrapped by now. Jamb is still operational today because it serves as a conduit pipe for some selected individuals to enrich themselves. An institution that has been marred by corruption, 'snake-swallowing- money' and utter inefficiency should not even be heard yapping about. In today's world, Jamb should no longer be relevant, WAEC and tertiary institutions should! Tertiary institutions should be empowered by law to directly admit prospective students who have obtained the required test scores in their Waec or Neco as is the case in China, South Korea...Every year in China, 12th grade students sit for an exam called Gaokao (the equivalent of Waec). The brightest students in the exam are usually admitted into top tier universities like Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University...while those who did well but couldn't get into any of the top universities end up in 2nd tier universities, and those who didn't very well either go to 3rd or 4th tier universities. Bottomline is everybody gets educated, and that's why the literacy threshold in the aforementioned countries keep increasing. In China, students go onto universities at 18 or19. While in Nigeria, Jamb is making the educational sojourn of many bright minds a living hell. It is very common to find many young men and women who have written Jamb countless times, wasting precious time on an examination which ought to been scrapped. |

This is a good development.... Jamb should implement it immediately... Those backdoor admission have wasted lot of people's time, they end up forfeiting the program after long overdue in "Regularizing there admission". |

We are too sentimental about issues in Nigeria. More often than not, we shy away from the truth. Even on the main campuses where the lecturers are on ground, facilities are at premium. Low quality graduates are being churned out. Gone are the days of half-baked graduates. These days, we have barely baked graduates. It is no longer news that we now have graduates that can barely read the certificates on which their names are written. And now, people are clamoring for distant learning and sandwich programmes where M.SC lecturers are the highest you can get and B.SC HOLDERS are lecturers all in a bid to cut down on cost and invariably cutting off quality. Can anyone imagine students from such centers doing quality final year projects? Indeed, only few people love this country. 1 Like |

And men are getting MBA, MSc. from across the oceans and we still don't want to adopt or try out innovations? Amazon just declared that almost all their employees can now work from home. The cost effectiveness of studying online can't be overemphasised. 1. Build your own lab (the school doesn't need to do that for you) 2. You don't have to pay for rent (your parents/guardians accommodation can suffice) 3. You can acquire a skill and hustle on the side (is that not what our brothers do in western countries?) 4. Parents and guardians get to checkmate their wards associates. Should we go on? We need to move beyond this attitude. Nations, corporations are moving on with the new normal and we are stuck with a nomadic one? Like someone opined, what is JAMES business with Regulations, that's NUC's forte. How did we get here, for crying our loud. |

Truthissupreme: I am surprised at the way things are going in this country. That directive from jamb is a lawless act, a sign that even the education managers are not educated |
Re: JAMB Stops Varsities, Others From Running Distance Learning by mfm04622: 11:31am On Oct 26, 2021 |
Truthissupreme: Let us take it one by one. Jamb doesn't have the jurisdiction to make outright ban on the sandwich programs which the institutions are already embarking on until they go through it. This is the ONLY function of JAMB. JAMB has the right to insist that ALL admission to any tertiary institution for any program is done through JAMB. That would have to come from the University Commission etc mandating the schools to channel those admission processes through Jamb. NUC is only concerned about the QUALITY of the program, not the admission to that program. Schools still determine their cut off marks etc till date because their admission guidelines remain solid. JAMB is not saying schools should not determine their cut off. What JAMB is saying is anybody seeking admission to any school for any program should do so through JAMB and not schools running programs that target people that are not qualified for admission in the first place! |
Re: JAMB Stops Varsities, Others From Running Distance Learning by Truthissupreme: 11:38am On Oct 26, 2021 |
mfm04622:You are forgetting something that sandwich programes like part-time are not really officially recognized as full time program before now The schools were the ones that created it and it's distinctive from full time Yet it is under the school which is under the NUC for example So NUC should be the one communicating to them |

Nigerians stop posting comments based on thread titles or news headlines. READ! READ!! READ!!! Reading posts doesn't take too long, read to understand the information, not to respond with your typical prejudiced replies haba! Comment is not by force o . |

milann:This is irresponsible journalism. Another evidence of how some people derive so much joy in taking advantage of the gullibility and poor education of a large concentration of our people. Deceptive headlines like this are not accidental, they are deliberate! This is how they keep Nigerians busy doing nothing but wasting precious time everyday with useless drama that is totally irrelevant the following week. We need a productive nation, not a nation of fruitless noisemakers but these so called media people and journalists will do anything to drive traffic and profit from it. Nairaland does the same. Just like Facebook facing hell today, your judgment day will come one day when the searchlight beams directly on you! 1 Like |

Truthissupreme: As I said before, NUC can speak to QUALITY of any program. For ADMISSION to any program in any school, it is the right of JAMB to monitor. It is simple really. NUC can accredit a program, deregister it. Or whatever. But for admission to the program, it is only JAMB that can say who is admitted or not. If it is not under JAMB, why do graduates of such programs need to go to JAMB to "regularize" the admission you are insisting the schools can give without recourse to JAMB? 1 Like |

Too much emphasis is placed on exams, pasting and passing, while interactive, analytic and productive learning is completely overlooked. National Exams are now viable avenues for schools and exam boards to generate money from cheating students and their parents. |
