Kidnapped Corps Members And 4 Other Benue Indigenes Regain Freedom

Two corps members who were kidnapped on their way to camp, alongside four other Benue indigenes kidnapped in Zamfara State, have regained their freedom.

Jimin Geoffrey, the Social media aide to Governor Samuel Ortom, made this known in a statement released Wednesday morning, October 27.

He said the corps members were freed following collaborative efforts of the state government, Benue Links management, and the families of victims.

Jennifer Awashima Iorliam and Joseph Zakaa are the NYSC members were abducted on their way to the NYSC orientation camp. Others include Sedoo Kondo, an undergraduate of Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, on her way to school, Ruth Sesuur Tsokar, who was visiting a relative in Kebbi and two brothers, Muhammadu Saminu and Safiam Muhammadu who were on their way to Sokoto State, together with the corps members traveling in a Benue Links vehicle.

According to the statement, the victims were released at about 6 p.m. on Tuesday October 26. Geoffrey, however, did not state whether ransom was paid prior to their freedom.

It's high time this scheme is scrapped or at least let corpers be posted to their respective geopolitical zones. Doesn't make sense to post a corper from Lagos to a risky zone like Zamfara etc.

The NYSC management told you guys to keep money for ransom if you're posted in some states in Nigeria, and also to build a cordial relationship with your abductors.

But it's ridiculous how kidnappers are able to successfully kidnap 5 matured adults, ransom paid, & they are later released & yet our security agencies are not able to trace & capture the culprits.
It's turning into a lucrative biz for these criminals.

I only hope that the ladies among them have not been molested and sexually abused as this could leave a lifetime dent on them and also mess with their mental health.

Those kidnappers and their financiers could easily be caught if ransom was paid in marked bills.

Youth service should be suspended for now until this govt renames bandits as terrorists and deals with them alongside BH and ISWAP. That's if they can. Don't use NYSC to terrorize these youths.
