A 21-Storey building has collapsed in upmarket Ikoyi in Lagos, Nigeria's commercial capital and most populous city.

The collapsed structure is on Gerard Road, Ikoyi. Reports say the building was under construction.

Quality control should be taken seriously in this country. We can’t keep wasting people’s lives. Casualties might not be much if the Emergency guys arrives early. Unfortunately, this is Nigeria where a pizza delivery is faster than Nigeria Emergency team. Shame!

Not good, but what will be must be.

Whenever I see these high-rise buildings in Nigeria, I'm usually afraid, because of the ineptitude of Nigerians.

We haven't been able to successfully handled anything in this country. Most of these buildings are deathtraps.

In other countries, you'd find buildings that were built hundred of years ago and are still standing..

I am worried about the integrity of the second building under construction. There is a high likelihood it is of the same quality as the one that collapsed

What a terrible way to start the month. Construction companies should value peoples lives and quit using sub-standard materials for building houses. Erecting houses shouldn't be about profit alone but safety of the occupants also, which should be taken very serious. Make survivors no go sue dem now.

Mheen! All these high rising buildings shouldn't be given to anyhow contractor. The owner of the property sef is trapped. I hope they all make it out alive. This is a very sad November 1st overthere.
