That's the best decision you have ever made, I would have scolded you if I were your father if you had chosen otherwise.

Wise decision from him, he'd seen he has little or no chance with the Eagles considering he plays second fiddle to Paul Onuachu in Genk.

Onuachu is not even a first choice striker in the Eagles to start with. undecided

Genk Striker, Ike Dominique Ugbo has dumped the Super Eagles of Nigeria for the Canada men's national soccer team.

The 23-year-old was born in Lewisham, Greater London, and moved to Canada with his family when he was four or five. He played youth soccer with Brampton East SC and Woodbridge Strikers, winning an international U10 tournament at Disney in 2008 with the latter.

Upon his return to the UK, he joined the Chelsea Academy at under-10 level where he won the UEFA Youth League with Chelsea in 2014–15 and 2015–16.

In a 2020 interview with Voettbal Sports Magazine, Ugbo pledged his international allegiance to Nigeria

“I chose Nigeria and right now, we're getting the papers in order,” he said.

“The chance of playing at the FIFA World Cup is part of it. I think I have more chances with Nigeria than with England.

“Also, I grew up with images of the [Nigeria] national team and always followed their strikers, especially the guys who came to England."

Born to a Nigerian father, the 23-year-old represented England at Under-17 and Under-20 levels, and was one of eight (cool players cleared by FIFA in January this year to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Ode u won't win anything with Canada... At least you've got the chance of winning afcon with Nigeria... Common euro England neva see carry

See you, what are you going to do with the winning if you end up breaking your leg and getting serious injury playing for a shithole like nigeria? You know you will be abandoned immediately and left to suffer with your family. It's better for him to play for a country where his welfare is guaranteed. Many nigerians are running away from this country to Canada every year for greener pastures and someone is given an opportunity to play for their national team and you want him to dump them and chose the shithole country?

It's not like he needs the citizenship.

He was born in England. That is first world.

Canada will never play in the men's world cup.
They won't qualify.

Nigeria is a more rational choice from a footballing perspective in his own case.

Canada is not better for his career.

For one, they are not a footballing powerhouse, not even in the North American context. As such, he would get no exposure playing for Canada.

Canada doesn't have a reputation for producing footballers, Nigeria does.

You gain insignificant direct monetary benefits playing for your nation, so he's not likely to make anything for National team.

The sad scenario would be if he doesn't even make the first team for Canada.

Good decision because he won't break into the English team neither would he make it to the Nigerian squad that's controlled by politics (Imagine Ahmed Musa getting an invitation to the team even when he was club-less, at the expense of fitter players)
my guy shut up. Certain things in life attract rewards. Attitude; dedication; Loyalty and positive energy/influence. Ahmed has diligently paid his dues.

Forget all these sentiments. Alphonse Davies is one of if not the very best left back in the business today. He plays for Canada even though he is originally from Ghana. Playing for Canada has had no negative effects on his career so far.
