Lessons To Learn From Godwin Maduka's Performance At The Polls by Omicron007(op): 10:22pm On Nov 06, 2021
The Anambra gubernatorial election has been the talking point of Nigeria's politics for several months now. The polity has been heated due to the calibre of the contestants, the defection games and the threat of boycotting the election by IPOB.

There have been a lot of jamboree regarding the campaigns both online and offline.

The candidate of the Accord Party, Dr. Godwin Maduka however, stands out for me.
The man is relatively new on the political scene but he managed to pull attention online.
He received numerous awards from different bodies and he was constantly in the news.
Our very own AlexxReports stood by him all through the campaign and his moniker was very active on this forum.

However, the election has come and gone, and results are trickling in from the nook and crannies of the state.
From early results, Godwin Maduka has so far had an abyssmal performance.

What lessons can you learn from this man's story?

You have raised a very pertinent question and unlike many who have nothing to say but to turn every discussion to tribal bashing.

There are some criteria required if you want to excel in political turf in Nigeria.

Be ruthless. Nigeria politics is not for nice man, neither it is for gentleman but for a strong willed person. It is not equally for intellectual because the more educated you are the more refine you become as you may consider some actions in politics as stupid.

Calculative moves. It is very useless in Nigeria to think charity and donation to massess would give you a political win, what that does is to give you popularity that would attract some vocal praise singers but irrelevant strata of people to your side. Sadly attracting such people would place you against the political elites of the society

Popular party. Regardless of your popularity, you need a very strong political platform in order to win popular vote. The case of president Buhari who lost 3 national election before becoming president is a good reference here.

Emotional stability. This would be a very eye opener to many of our Igbo brothers especially on Nairaland who have been sentimental in their political analysis, some of them look at politics as mere arithmetic exercise rather than accepting it as a complex calculus. Politics requires you to exploit your strong point rather than focusing on your opponent weaknesses. In Nigeria, such weaknesses doesn't matter when it comes to chosing their leader. The electorates are shortsighted and rely on pecuniary gain in making political decision.

Your eligible voters are your market space, your product must reach them, the very poor and uneducated people of the society are the one that takes voting serious while others are just online noisemakers who doesn't believe that their participation could change the narratives for better

Nigerian politics has no relationship with works, campaigning, the internet and accolades. It's about connections to the people that make the rigging happen, and the political machinery on the ground 9/10 of which can barely use Facebook. Once he failed to secure a place in APGA, he was done.

you don't get it at first try, and also the amount spent on election campaigns should be limited and also electorates should not be allowed to spend front their pocket but from crowd source of those who actually believe in him

Mmaduka scattered PDP votes. APGA winning this election is because they're now like the state party, old people will tell you they're only voting for cockerel.

Anambra people are different if you were in anambra you will feel how APC used their federal power and might to shake Anambra state such that there were massive defections of politicians from APGA to ACP. A sitting deputy governor inclusive but the masses stood their ground. They simply wanted Soludo

Because Apga as a political party has a structure in Anambra.if maduka was the Apga candidate he will definitely win likewise
If soludo was in accord party the same result of election loss will befall him
Party means a lot.

Take for example if Andy was in accord who will give him face! Now what If maduka was using the Apc platform.wallahi soludo and Apga go loose the state
