Other parts of tech that folks should consider is the security, compliance and audit of IT; these areas are also in high demand as most IT professionals do not fancy career shift to them. Furthermore, a degree in Computer Science is not required to thrive in these roles.

IT Auditors - They initiate periodic review of IT processes, Infrastructure and Security; they are usually required in the Big4, IT consulting firms and companies with large staff/customer base. A professional certification called Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) is usually required to be considered for the job role, while additional certifications like CISSP, CEH, CISM, ISO27001 LA.....may be required for knowledge purposes.


IT Risk/Compliance Analysts - Their responsibilities are closely related to that of IT Auditors, they provide guidance to IT/Security professionals on internal and regulatory compliance areas relating to IT processes, projects and general IT Infrastructure. Part of their responsibilities also involve identifying risk exposures, documenting them and recommending controls. Professional certifications required includes ISO27001 LI, ITIL, CRISC etc.

For those who are not tech savvy, you could consider switching to IT audit/compliance first, then evaluate the possibility of moving to information/cyber security later.

Career in the roles mentioned above is rewarding. I will be willing to provide more information on how to switch to them here, folks can also check online for more information.

Advice to students: When you are on Tier-4 visa, your school work should be the main thing. Any other side ‘hustle’ should be secondary.

Please can you change your course to any related course when you get to UK. I found out that my course Msc In International Business in huddersfield is no longer accredited with Chartered Management Institute, while the related course Msc Management with International Business & Msc Management are both still accredited. I already gotten an offer which I have accepted and conditions met except initial deposit, which deadline is Dec 3. Please gurus in the house I have emailed the school about this but what do you guys think. I need that CMI for career progression. Should I go on with the offer I have with the mindset I change the course when I get to the school in uk.
Please gurus in the house I need your advise urgently.

I am looking at exactly this - GRC, Audit. Already researched and outlined CISA, CISM, CRISC, CISSP , ISO 27** and CGEIT and what I would like to work towards within 2 yrs in the UK (Seriously eyeing the top 4 even though they dont really pay well)

Since you spent more time working a student job than doing the studies you came for, One would have assumed that you would have at least saved enough money to handle problems like this.

My issue isn’t even the visa extension (or lack of), it’s the change from full- time to part time as an international student on tier 4 (means you no longer even qualify for the tier 4 because it’s for full time students).

You def need a lawyer

Have you had your vaccine? That is covid related. Send a mail requesting for an assurance to enable you take your vaccine. A week or two later you will get a response requesting for evidence of your booking. Go online, book a test for a later date and reply the mail.

I read in the papers today that HGV drivers now earn more than starting salary of £54k, while plumbers now earn up to 150k annually. So those of you looking for office jobs should go and learn how to drive lorry or learn plumbing/ electrician …. ( Thank me later)

I hired a guy to come plaster a section of a wall earlier this month, paid over £200 for less than a 2 hour job. Speaking to him, he said this was his if i can remember correctly his 10th job for the year. He used to drive a Porsche which he sold recently even at a price higher than what he paid for it. My mouth dropped at some of the stories he told us about how much he has made over the years and believe me lots of is that do white collar jobs don't earn that kind of money and they collect cash so don't pay HMRC anything.

Paid one to do the kitchen, minus the cost of the appliances and cabinets i calculated £4000 as his take home for about a 10 day job and he worked at his own pace. How many of us earn that?

When you start, you might have to build credibility and experience, but when you get that, the sky is the limit to what you want to earn and how you want to work.

All the people that ask what certification they need to do to get a job in the UK, of you are still in Nigeria, go and attach yourself to that Baba painter and Bana plumber and Baba carpenter even barber to learn the trade, come here fine tune the skills get whatever CSCS card or certification you need and with God on your side, there are no limits.

Sometimes personal preferences matters. I personally can't take up these jobs full-time as I believe there are numerous ways to make easy money, just find your niche.

I promised to give pointers about tech occupations. Of course there are the core tech occupations like infrastructure manager, network architects, technical architects, developers (either front or backend), automation testing or even some data professions (these require sql, python, r and some familiarity with tableau, power bi, etc). As for manual testing, if you have experience with software and/or UX experience, you may easily become a manual tester (pays well).

I am not a pro in the above so I will leave it to the professionals to speak of. Out of all the above tech occupations, the easiest and most pragmatic to get into would be security manager (which requires little to no code, as your infrastructure staff would do the needed to help you) but security requires vast experience in the tech industry (that’s why I pity people with no experience reading cyber security).
Anyway the good news is, there are some professions that you can crack easily, these are:

Scrum master-- if you are a manager, cheerleader and teacher, you can do a scrum master course on scrum.org, watch looooads of scrum or agile videos on YT and go on some other agile courses to become a scrum master—m but prepare to start as a junior if you have never had the role before.

Product owner-- again read up about it, make sure you do your certification on scrum.org, then whatever industry you apply to, make sure it is an industry you have worked in very well because POs always need the experience to make good decisions.

Delivery manager—if you have worked as a Project manager before, just learn about agile (again scrum.org and many agile videos, change your mindset (no more controlled environment, you philosophy must be to fail fast) and then you can convert your title to DM- they pay well.
Business analyst, these are pretty popular, just make sure you have some certs and you have experience in the industry you want to work in. You can learn about BA in BCS or IIBA- pays well.

Product manager-- my favourite, well just be experienced in the product and have good enough experience in being a BA, DM or PO. You must be familiar with agile and product development life cycle.

Take these jobs, go on indeed, look up the jobs, then try and acquired whatever skill the jobs require within the next 4 months. Tune your cv to reflect the job spec, practice well so you have speak eloquently during your interview. You can also convert your job as an accountant, finance analyst etc to the above jobs, but you have to be smart about it.
