Violence is never the right answer.

She had absolutely no right to slap that child. That is called “assault.” The mistake our people make is in thinking they can do anything abroad that they could do in Naija. The US-imprisoned, Japan-deported, convicted international rapist extraordinaire, Nairaland’s very own Oyinbogoju aka Adedoja Olaniyi Bah aka Adedoja Orani aka Tony More comes to mind. Dude thought he could get away with sexual molestation abroad, a perversion he no doubt honed in Naija.

Just because you can get away with slapping kids in Naija doesn’t mean the behaviour is permitted worldwide. What that woman did is assault 101 and depending on the jurisdiction, that can give you a criminal history. It’s not till you kill somebody that the law deals with you. Learn to keep your hands to yourself. If you deem a child disrespectful, stop responding to the child, remove yourself from the situation. Assaulting a minor is not a small crime, civilized societies protect the most vulnerable, not like Naija where they are the most exploited. Thank God Oyinbogoju is serving 3 life sentences + 76 years for his brutal rape and sodomy of a 13 year old but that’s only because he committed his crime in the US, not Naija where his behaviour would have been condoned.

P.S. Yes, I’m very much about publicizing Oyinbogoju so that his co-perverts and rape apologists here can learn.

First of all, I would not be having that conversation with a random child I do not know and I would not be losing my cool either because I am sensible enough to know that is one of the fastest ways to get in trouble with the law and/or find infamy on YouTube. It’s called self-discipline, self-restraint, self-preservation. I am as much African as you are but that doesn’t mean I would allow my pride to get me into trouble with the law. That is complete foolishness, no matter the provocation. Frankly, I have too much going for me to risk it on an incident like that.

To you, it’s an eyesore; in law, it is assault. The law does not care what you think or where you came from. When in Rome, you do like the Romans. If it’s okay in Naija, stay in Naija to practise it, do not attempt to export the behaviour abroad. In the highly unlikely event that any of my kids find themselves in a situation where they are mouthing off at someone and that person puts their hands on them, African or not, I would STOP AT NOTHING to make sure that person feels the full wrath of the law.

If you cannot conform to the laws of your intended destination abroad, I would strongly recommend you stay in Naija! Permit me to ignore any further mentions from you.

If you are with your mom, best is mom drag you out of the place and hold a teaching moment with you in the car.
Yes, almost impossible but you should overlook it and leave the place. Trying to fight or beat the person put you in bigger problems - jail time, lost of job, your own children might be taken from you etc

The girl was rude but aunty started it....it was after a few exchange that she called her a fool. Honestly, aunty should have minded her business or leave when things started getting heated. If you could imagine the effect this her silly demand for respect would cause her,you would pity her. Apart from the legal aftermath, shes also unnecessarily brought herself and family to public glare....some unfortunate avenger could even target her for reprisal. All because she couldn't control herself in public.

That said, some kids need a good smack. You're not doing it to them, but rather for them. Seriously, some people only respond to physical punishment, and later in life they'll look back and be thankful someone was there to jolt them out of destructive behavior and thinking.

But what did those kids even say/do why aunty was mad?
