Please oohh I want to ask. Did akwa ibom state government order for these 10 A220-300 or they are signing a wet-lease agreement with another airline/leasing company ? Recall they currently have two A220-300s which they wet-leased from Air sinai. If its a similar arrangement I believe the people of akwa ibom state will ask questions

The 220 will be dry lease from Europe. The current 220 are owned by Egypt air and the contract ends soon. Dry lease is cheaper

And IMO Air (Partnering Air Peace) that was launched same period with Ibom Air, embarked on a one way flight with no destination and arrival date.

Hmmmm.

Okay thank you for clarifying. How economical is it to run an airline strictly on lease basis ? Isn't a mixture of acquisition and lease a better practice ?

I think ur the extremely dull person here...
Benue had a cement plant DAT employed thousands of workers ...it now under dangote...that same plant has at least 800 full staff and more than a thousand truck drivers that transport the cements let me also include the thousands of business people who now earn a living buying the commodity from the trucks and retailing it....ur talking about nearly 3000 direct and indirect jobs already created by a single cement plant..

See u claim to have sense ..biko how many people can an airline employ...from pilots to the air hostesses and other staff ...they can never be more than 300.. 500 max ..how many Nigerians fly in total and how many does the airline want to fly...There is also no tangible indirect job created...now compare and contrast ... Am 100% sure dar the current staffs are paid from akwa ibom state budgets not from the revenue of the airline

The money the gov is using to buy 10 jumbo jets will build 10 factories that will create not less Dan 400 direct plus indirect each ...preserve forex especially if they are producing goods DAT were initially imported..
We r talking of projects that the masses will impacted directly not some delusional joy in one's mind that u have airline dat 0.05 of the total population of akwa ibom will use or Nigerians in total

If he used the money to establish a deep sea port which will cost around 260bn naira...
That port can employ atleast a thousand workers on different section direct and indirect... Go to apapa and see...it will transform akwa ibom to a hub for industrialization.... This is what made rivers and Lagos state buzzing with industries...this also the reason why delta state lost it glory when warrior port died. ..go to worry and see how many companies are gone...

Ur talking about generating revenue ...how much does an airline only flying 3 route want to bring.....the Lagos ports generate nearly a trillion naira yearly to FG accounts.. I have not included d other corrupt practices that profits thousands of lives working around the ports

Can u compare the number of people that fly to the number of people that import goods and trade....u just open ur mouth and talk rubbish...
Akwa ibom is not Dubai or new York..they are just wasting resources on white elephant project. .even a Lagos with a gdp of over 300 bn and the 5th largest economy in Africa doesn't have it own airline and sure doesn't need one....arrant nonsense..
Do u know that as rich as the US is along with it 56 states...the US itself along with all the states do not own a single airline... Google is ur friend

You are dull Bro, do you know Benue used to have cement company before, states are supposed do business to add to state income, and who told it's only aiwa-ibom they lift passengers to?

Nothing like this in delta state.. states and governors who are supposed to bagged awards of best governors have been denied because of huge corruption rocking d nigerian system.... We have governors that are given titles as road masters yet their states remain dead traps to motorists... during d raining season their titles of being road masters are publicly exposed as heavy flood taking over everywhere .. these are d groups of governors who befits the titles of road masters in d nigeria system.. idiocity everywhere u go

What exactly is the advantage of this
How many akwa ibom indigene will ever step inside such planes....why not use this billion and establish a deep sea port to attract industrialization instead of wasting on useless projects without substantial impacts...

Apart from being the former capital of Nigeria, Lagos gained it status today simply because of the presence of two large sea ports which attracted business men and industries undecided
It depends on what the people of the state want. It looks like they are excited and happy with the government's investment in aviation and by extension ibom air. As governor you will do what your people want. Nevertheless, I belief has always been that government has no business running businesses. The COO of ibom air mentioned that ibom air has over 250 employees. I expected the numbers to be much higher but nevertheless Udom and successive governments will need to continue investing in aviation to get to where they want to be. Each unit of the airbus A220-300 costs about $90 million. Assuming they secure discounts and other bargains 10 units will cost the state at least $700 million. Being an oil producing state I believe its something they can easily pay for or secure financing for. The planes will begin to arrive in 2023 (earliest) and udom needs to ensure that his successor believes in the ibom air dream to continue the tempo. Congrats once more to ibom air and the people of akwa ibom state

Lol this is an interesting debate and there will always be two sides to it. There is no need for name callings/throwing jabs. Aviation is a job creator and ibom air will definitely create more jobs but their are questions to be asked which is normal in any project of this magnitude. Hadi sirika is floating a national carrier which will be backed by the FG. I don't know what stage this project is at but they have been talking about it. AirPeace is out there aggressively trying to maintain their dominance on the Nigerian airspace. In fact they made a firm order for 10 embraer generation E2 jets in 2019 which they further increased to 13. 4 of those aircrafts have been delivered and are in active service. The 5th one is coming in the first week of december (according to their CEO). They also have 10 737 max 8 on order that will be coming in from 2024. They are based in Lagos which has the largest number of air travellers in Nigeria. Anambra airport is coming on board very soon and from the look of things airpeace will be granted right of first refusal on all fronts at anambra. So it will be nice to know what routes these 10 A220-300s will be deployed to . Are there plans to make uyo airport a hub ? Or will ibom be like all airlines based in either lagos or abuja ? If based in Abuja or Lagos what will be the direct benefit to the people of akwa ibom state because most of the taxes and vendors will be based outside akwa ibom . Aviation business is not a profitable one but revenues/cash flow is huge with high operational expenses as well as multiple avenue for cash leakage. At the end of the day competition is good for all and this tactics of frustrating airlines out of uyo route in favour of ibom air is not the best. If anambra state government does the same ibom will lose out on the huge passenger traffic that airport is projected to host
