Obasanjo did not “mercilessly” defeat Ekwueme if not that it was an agreement among the contending powers. Ekwueme got into the equation to create a semblance of democracy in action. All the delegates had the instruction to vote Obasanjo. The same played out in 2003 when Atiku sought to remove Obasanjo.

What you should talk about is not “snatching” or violence, but for all to come to peaceful negotiated settlements. It is not a wrestling or boxing contest. That’s why you vote wrong people who make you suffer as you witness now.

You agreed that rotation is between the “north and the south”. If that is the case, the South with Obasanjo from the SW had 8 years, with everyone’s agreement. The North with Yaradua from the Northwest served 2 years and GEJ from the South, took the SS slot and serving 6 years. The South represented by the SW have the VP position for 8 years, do you want to say that the SE is not part of the country? All these with 22 years of our present democracy. What about the North central and the Northeast? Why then after looking at power rotation without bias, should the SW think about the presidency at this time? What we say is that for equity and balance if power is shifted to the south, the presidency should be in the SE in 2023.

For many years, there has been a myth that the North is the reason why Nigeria has been underdeveloped. You would hear all sorts of stories about how the North keeps Nigeria down and that if only the South was in charge.

Well, the cold truth is, Nigeria is in the state it is because our revenue stream is from selling one raw materail...oil. And because oil prices are never at the price that we want, we always don't have enough money to do the things we want...so at the end of the day we have to take loans, and loans and loans.

Even when we had cocoa, cotton, etc etc...we did not earn enough income from all those because of the same reason. The reason why people look back on the 1960's and 70's AS the good old days was because government spent disproportionately on the cities.

The reason why Southerners like the Lag governor propagate the myth of the North causing problems for Nigeria is simple. They want to get into power, and they want to be in charge of the sharing of money. Also, the elite and the government...whether North or South don't want to make hard decisions like removing subsides, and increasing the taxation of the majority of Nigerians in the informal sector...which would benefit our economy but lead to high prices. Thus the myth

Most subsaharan African countries are as poor as Nigeria, and most of them have no Northerners ruling them. Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Congo, even Ghana are not richer than we are, and have GDP at the same level as we do...and yet no Hausa guy has run these countries (except Ghana where a Hausaic guy ran the country...for a total of 2 years.).

The only way we can become a prosperous country is to use our raw materials to power our industrial growth, and make goods for the world market...at prices we set...and also stop relying on oil. And stop subsidsing the power and petrol sector...so that they can make enough profits to power our economy. But we all want to chop money.
