A lot of Igbos on this forum are in utter denial that the SE is very, very badly run. It is an embarrassment that Yobe, the 2nd most devastated state by Boko Haram can generate over 9 billion in VAT - while Anambra is generating over 5 billion. It's also very weird that Ebonyi - with the smallest economic output in the SE - can generate more than all the other SE states. Secession is not by noise, emotional outbursts and empty chest-beating. If you're taking far more money from the FG than you generate, than your talks of secession is just clownery. We should start asking serious questions on our state of readiness for real autonomy. And the SE as a zone contributes less to the Federation account than all regions other than the NE.

VAT is fixed. States do not have the power to fix VAT. the only thing states can do is to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive there by increasing VAT

That is an entirely different topic. You're digressing. If there is consensus that the SE should aspire to be autonomous, then it's common sense that we have to start generating our own revenue. The vast proportion of the state budget in the SE is funded by Federal Allocation and the SE contributes less to the Federation Account than any region other than the NE. This does not portend well for our aspirations to be autonomous and also makes us look like silly hypocrites when we criticize the North as leeches feeding fat on the Federal teat when we're just as guilty as them of leeching off money that we have not earned from Niger Delta oyel money and tax revenue from the SW. Our leaders were among the foolish Southern leaders who were supporting Wike's recent antics when we can't even generate our own revenue.

VAT is collected by the Federal Government and easily trackable and there is no incentive to misrepresent the data. If they wanted to fake data, more productive regions like the SW and SS would have been the targets, and not the SE.
