Lame excuse - war ended in 70s - famine in 75 - dude kenya has drought almost every 2-3yrs. The problem is ingrained communism ideals that still persist to date.
You have to look at the economic state before the war, during the war and after then you will see the impact it had. Plus the war with Uganda ended in 79.

Last week, Tanzanian authorities threw into disarray KCB’s bid to acquire African Banking Corporation Tanzania (BancABC Tanzania) following what the lender said were delays in approval from regulators.

But this is not surprising. Over the last five years, there has not been any major merger and acquisition by a Kenyan company in Tanzania, according to Kunal Ajmera, the chief operating officer and international business centre director for Eastern Africa at Grant Thornton Kenya, an audit company.

An increase in East African Breweries Ltd’s stake in Serengeti Breweries is the only notable deal in the recent past.

“The only other deals that happened are by private equity firms. They just invest in Tanzania because they have to balance their portfolio,” said Mr Ajmera.

Normally, when foreign money comes into the East Africa Community (EAC), private equity firms are expected to find deals across the trading bloc’s member states.

Elijah Munyi, a lecturer of international relations at the United States International University-Africa, reckons KCB has been given a taste of Tanzania’s protectionist policy that pervades nearly all the sectors of the economy.

“I think there was definitely going to be frustrations, even though [President Samia] Suluhu is a bit more open,” said Dr Munyi.

President Suluhu, who replaced the late John Magufuli, has said she is open to foreign investments, especially from Kenya.

Nigeria is zoo. But at least Nigerians are hardworking and educated compared to Tanzanians. Tanzania is peaceful and functional state. Nigeria is complete chaos with power blackouts, endless traffic, crazy hawkers and informal flea markets, loud and chaotic. Let not add insecurity - from urban to rural areas - it almost like DRC - it's either kidnappers, cattle rustlers, jihadist or boko haram.

If you told me to choose btw TZ and Nigeria - TZ wins every day.

TZ problems are fixable. It's a problem of primitive agrarian economy that needs to be transformed to modern industries and services. It's like China of 1978.

They just need to embrace capitalism like China did in 1978 - allow private ownership of land, reduce gov involvement in business, reduce gov interference in private sector, change education policy - either go fully Kiswahili or English, remove forex controls and allow firms to repatriate profit at will.

Once they do that private domestic and foreign investment will flow - to take advantage of TZ peaceful large population, natural resources - and friendly people - and their economy will start firing on all cylinders.

All the changes in TZ do not require any money - just a change in attitude from their primitive gov and people.

Nigeria is a complicated mess - like DRC - it first need to be split into 2 or 3 countries - definitely the muslim north and christian south do not have a shared vision.

Something that Tanzania is not going to do is allow private ownership of land. The system that we have in Tanzania help reduce land conflicts by a mile. In Tanzania if you buy land technically you buy the rights to lease land from the gvt and the title deed is provided in a 33yrs or 99yrs basis. When the title deed expires you just go and renew the title deed and so on and so on. And if you title deed expires the gvt not kick you out of your land. Only Tanzanians are allowed to own (lease land from the government) and after get a title deed you have 3 yrs to develop the land(you can even just plant trees in your land and it is considered land development) and if not the gvt will inform you that you have to forfeit the land (which rarely happens).
The upside to this system is that if an investor opens a company in Tanzania and acquires land (that is the only way that foreigners can own land). They have to utilize the land as intended and if not the gvt can take the land and redistribute it back to the local village authorities. This has helped prevent conflicts over land such as with the white farmers in SA and Zimbabwe.

What gas is Nigeria going to produce when Nigeria is importing gas import of gas has gone up by 300% in Nigeria. We don't even have enough gas for our local market. In one month Nigeria imported 71% of its gas in one year Nigeria imports 60% of its gas so how are you going to export gas when there is not enough gas in the country even for the local market.
the reason why I said engaging you is stupid.

As a student studying petroleum and gas engineering there are so many reasons why Nigeria's gas reserves remain untapped even tho we have huge deposits of them.

I wrote term papers on a few ways to solving those problems and building this pipelinealong with others that connect the reserves to places where the gas would be utilised is one of them.
And that's why the akk gas pipeline to Kano is being constructed.

Who in Kenya would even block a TZ company? I mean we dont block strong companies from South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt or India or UK or US - how can we reduce our self to TZ pettiness?

Kenya companies will dispatch any TZ company back in a week with brutal competition.

Nonsensical. What difference would a leasehold and freehold make on land conflict? What is important in attracting investment is very STRONG property rights because you want investors to put down their money - and they in turn do not want to worry about some gov officials coming to their land - and declaring it forfeited for any reason.

This is why semi arid kenya is kicking your butt. Basic stuff like those...discourage domestic and foreign investment...and hence you remain agrarian economy just planting maize and beans.

For TZ to transform into modern industralized economy like Kenya is just starting - it's need to fix it's communism hang-over - and embrace capitalism and free market ideals.

The 4 factors of production - land, capital, enterpreunership and labour - you have good expansive arable land that is rich in minerals (youre up there with DRC, Nigeria and South Africa) - but the rest you lack - capital both from domestic and foreign is absent with your tiny banks - here KCB is coming to help but your regulator is refusing. Labour - how will your poorly educated kids hack - most companies would rather hire kenyans if they had a chance. Enterpreunership...with your anti-money and anti-progress attitudes - it will take some time before you dump your communist hangover to see wealth as genuinely acquired - not witchraft.

How is that land helping you when you're poorer than Kenya that is half your size and 89 percent semi-arid.
Land is a resources that need to be optimally used.
Kenya is freehold - with leasehold of 99yrs for foreigners.
Nobody can take your land in kenya without rigours court process.
This ensure people can put heavy investment knowing they can sleep well.
Kenyatta doesnt own even 1 percent of kenya land - or even 1 percent of kenya arable land.
Kenya is 58Million hectares...Arable land is about 6M HA or 10 million acres.
Kenyattas largest land holding is 100,000 acres in dry Taiva Taveta where they do minning.
The rest in arable areas ranges btw 10K-20K acres.

You see how small minded you are. You think there should be equality in numbers of companies..while you completely KILLED your private sector by nationalizing all private companies.

You woke up recently with ZERO private companies.

Kenya has more advanced economy. We have South African companies come here and we compete with them...and send them back home.

Kenya companies helped Tanzania in late 90s after you re-joined EAC - and we moved to Tanzania - and helped build your private sector.

You got jealous as always- run to SADC- and now you are blocking kenya companies - and welcoming South Africans.

I have done maize business myself - Tanzania and Uganda maize are of such LOW quality - they have to be blended with Kenya Maize for them to be sold to millers. It's not just afflotixn - it's lack of hybrid maize varities - so you have low quality maize and beans of different shapes, sizes and colours - and millers reject them.

Those accepted are used mostly for animal feeds.

You're not food secure. You suffer serious malnutrition. Kenya will never lack market to import maize from - in fact cheaper maize is grown in Mexico and US. We use Tanzania and Uganda maize for our huge dairy sector - they are mostly use to feed cows.

Kenya export about 300 different types of agricultural products. We have strong farming foundation set by British settlers - Kenya, Zim and South Africa - had that base - however South Africa and Zim - the blacks farmers have not learnt anything - while in Kenya we have robust black driven farming.

As for food and starving - they are not related. Food insecurity is not lack of food - it's lack of money by starving people.
Food insecurity is defined as the disruption of food intake or eating patterns because of lack of money and other resources.

Kenya has a very successfully agricluture... example Tea. In 1960s...we were at bottom...and have now climbed to the top...and India of all places are feeling the heat.

India imposes restrictions on Kenyan tea to protect its farmershttps://www.businessdailyafrica.com › ... › Commodities
26 Nov 2021 — The Tea Board of India issued circulars to tea stockists on reporting about the quantity and quality of imports from Kenya to rein in shipments.

Unlike poor Ghana exporting raw beans...Kenya has 170-200 tea manufacturing companies.

World largest tea auction is in Kenya - Mombasa - and global tea prize is set in kenya.
