yep. I am as shocked as you are. I guess Ric being in the news lately for the bad reasons after his infamous Dark Side of the Ring story affected their relationship in a bad way.

Those two seemed like an odd pairing right from the beginning. The news about retiring the cruiserweight title breaks my heart. I followed that title right from the 2016 cruiserweight classic tournament, to 205live and then nxt. I guess wwe no longer wants smaller athletes in nxt 2.0
People like kushida, Roderick strong etc may be chasing 24/7 title in the near future. That is if they don't get fired.

Kushida already looks prime for a 24/7 title reign cry

How did they seem like an odd pairing to you?

WWE NXT WARGAMES REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS

Let’s talk NXT WarGames.
Case of the P.T.A.
There was a moment in the men’s WAAAARGAAAAAMES match when every individual feud had a moment to shine. Grayson Waller landed an elbow drop from the heavens on top of a defenseless LA Knight. Tony D’Angelo put Pete Dunne in a swinging neckbreaker from the top rope. Oh, and he had a crowbar around the Bruiserweight’s throat. Dexter Lumis reappeared to chase off a nosey Trick Williams! And then there were the main four: Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Garagno, Bron Breakker, and Carmelo Hayes.
Those four had multiple moments that changed the temperature of the match. Whether it was Johnny and Melo during the match’s first five minutes, Ciampa calling in an Air Raid on Bron with a metal trash can breaking his fall (trash cans don’t really break falls), or the multiple mini DIY reunions perfectly in flow with the match.
The beauty of this particular WarGames match is it’s steeped in history. We’re talking about a battle between NXT’s past and its future, so everything has to count. That context is the only way a freaking crutch pops the crowd. They know what it means to the wrestlers, to the brand, and why its appearance is momentous. But if you get your Sherlock Holmes on, you’ll notice it was the Black and Gold team doing most of the callbacks. “Purple,” you’re saying to yourself, “of course they had the callbacks. They’re the team with all the history!” And you’re 100 percent correct. At a certain point, focusing too much on the past and the way things were done can inhibit one from focusing on the present and what’s happening now. And that’s how The Black and Gold walked away as losers.
Team 2.0’s number one rule was there are no rules. They’re the ones who bought in the plunder. They’re the ones who locked the cage door to use the numbers game to their advantage even if it was for just a few extra seconds. Melo and Bron’s crew didn’t have it easy, but they used every edge—no pun intended. Hey Beth!—they possessed to stall, punish, or surprise their counterparts who believed they just weren’t ready. That means we had several near falls, a lot of momentum swings, and many moments where the Black and Gold crew figured they had the entire thing wrapped like presents, mummies, or sandwiches.
Which brings us to the closing moments of the match. As I said, it was all about the four main players in our performance. Johnny announced this was his first WarGames and it might be his last. It only makes sense that he Ciampa showed off the moves and chemistry that made DIY, well, DIY. If that teamwork and showmanship ended the match and sent Team 2.0 crying? That’s pure poetry. And it’s what almost happened.
After a Meeting in the Middle put Bron out of commission, it was Melo shooting at Ciampa and Gargano. A thumb to the eye here, a low blow there, and it looked like the North American champ was ready to make history. Then that DIY teamwork kicked in again, as Gargano held Melo long enough for Ciampa to nail the champ with a knee to the back of his head, with Johnny taking some damage in the process.
Ciampa grabbed Melo, positioned him near a table placed ever-so-properly in a corner, and prepped him for a Fairytale Ending. Yet, somehow, through all that, they lost sight of the Big Bad Booty Nephew. Seriously, how do you take your eyes off of a human that large? Anyway, in one of the best moments of the night, Bron speared Ciampa through the table right as the NXT champ lifted Hayes into the air. It was poetry in motion because it said so much in less than 15 seconds. The NXT Champion took his eye off his biggest challenge because he doesn’t think he deserves a shot. While taking his sweet time to finish the match, he was caught off guard by that same man, put through a table, and then powerslammed for the three-second tan.
It wasn’t the greatest WarGames, but it was a damn good story, a satisfying ending, and the boys put on a hell of a show.
More importantly? I have no idea where we go from here. As someone who wants surprises from his wrestling, that’s the best place in which to be.
If you didn’t know already, it’s official now: 2.0 season has begun.

Separation Anxiety
The question going into the women’s WarGames match—for me at least—was whether the babyface squad could get on the same book, much less the same page. Everyone had their own agendas and that normally leads to at least a mild case of chaos. Opposites attract but they can also repel. Nope, that’s not how science works, but you get my point.
In the end, the story was about the rookie and youngest person in the entire match: Cora Jade. Jade, the third entrant, wrestled with something to prove. And who can blame her? Her teammates and her opponents are champs, former champs, or wrestling legends. Of course she goes after Dakota Kai with her skateboard. Of course she goes after everyone like a rabid dog. And, of course, she took the riskiest high risk of the match.
With her squad placing Jacy Jayne on a table, Cora went to the top of the cage. High on adrenaline, and, again, needing to prove her self, Jade goes for a Senton. I say goes for because she landed awkwardly. Sure, anytime you land on someone, it’s not a smooth landing, but you normally don’t land on your shoulder either. Cora held on to that shoulder and was clearly in agony. After some discussion with the referees, it looked like Cora was on her way out. But Dr. Io Sharai wasn’t having any of that. Sharai popped Jade’s shoulder back into place after telling everyone she would handle it.
Cora nursed her shoulder for the rest of the match while the fighters fought. And fought they did. Trash cans, tables, and utter violence. At this point, Raquel González, Kay Lee Ray, and Sharai were just trying to protect their injured partner.
But then something happened. Once Mandy Rose entered and the match “officially” started, Cora summoned the Power of Greyskull, and broke up a potential match ender with a Kendo stick. Once again, that adrenaline kicked in and she managed to get a few shots in before getting a surprise rollup pin on Jayne.
The one-armed woman in a wrestling match scored the W for her team, and the biggest one of her career to this point. A fun opener that had a couple sloppy moments, but props on the ending that makes sense based on the main story the match conveyed.

The Rest
No New Friends
Kyle O’Reilly is done with affiliations and friends. O’Reilly and Von Wagner—still an awful name—put up a really good fight against Imperium. But that good fight didn’t equate to a meaningful win. Their newfound friendship wasn’t enough for the longtime chemistry the champs developed. Kyle fell victim to an Imperium Bomb and unloaded his frustration on his partner and only friend in NXT. Kyle’s paranoia got the best of him because he doesn’t trust a soul anymore. Good match with an interesting twist in the end.
I hope the Powers That Be weren’t going for a heel moment there because the crowd was fully on Kyle’s side. Almost as if to say, “Von Wagner, we’re just not that into you.”

Luck Be a (Grimey) Lady, Tonight
The right man won. Does it matter that he had a handful of tights? Not really. The whole thing between Cameron Grimes and Duke Hudson is about outplaying the opponent. Poker isn’t about playing the cards; it’s about playing the person in front of you. Bluffing and hustling are built into the rules. In that context, I have no problem with a babyface playing loose with the rules to get a win. Another good match with the added bonus of seeing Duke Hudson humbled with a God-awful haircut. Seriously, a bowl cut is better.

Get Your Weight Up
Roderick Strong walked into the Performance Center as Cruiserweight champ and he leaves the same way he entered. I’m not sure how to feel about the match because if Joe Gacy isn’t going to win, what was the point? Not even saying I’m a fan of dude, but it’s just weird.
Gacy stopping Harland from harming Ivy Nile was the most interesting part of the match. Other than that? Meh.

This was a fun show for the most part. The one match I wasn’t feeling is the match I predicted I wouldn’t feel, while the rest was, unsurprisingly, consistent. We also got a lot of vignettes in this show.
It didn’t need to be anywhere near 3 hours and it felt like they were dragging it out for Sports Entertainment Reasons ™. The two matches that needed to stand out did, while setting the stage for a very interesting week of television.

so guys, between the old school NXT(black and gold) and it's current new school(2.0) based on their little time under the sun, which is your individual preference yet?

WWE RAW REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS

Let’s talk Raw!

Livid
For a minute, WWE made me believe Liv Morgan was walking out of Memphis with a championship in her hand. Okay, for longer than a minute. They were practically skywriting it. Look at how hard Becky went at her this week and weeks prior. Then there was the video package establishing backstory, motivation, desire, and a “girlhood dream” narrative that Vince eats up. Oh, and they let the girl come to the ring after the champion!
Color me shocked that Becky is still the Raw Women’s Champion. Did I expect a long reign from Liv? No. In my head, she gets the big moment here and then loses at Day 1. But as Vince keeps telling us, expect the unexpected.
Liv did, however, beat back the narrative that she comes up short in big spots. Becky beating her the same way she beat Charlotte Flair and the same way she won her last title defense, with a hand full of rope in a rollup, gives Liv an out. Becky’s story is one of desperation. Like Charlotte, she is wiling to do anything to hold onto that title. While she may truly believe the championship doesn’t define her, her actions say otherwise. That makes Becky a hypocrite and, yeah, the thing she hates the most.
Liv was right.
When all else fails and Becky feels that belt slipping out of her grasps, she uses the other hand to grab tights, hold ropes, or distract refs. Liv never stood a chance against someone like that. No matter how many human interest portraits they paint of Liv, it’s impossible to prepare for someone willing to get in the mud in the cheapest way possible. Especially when that same someone realizes they can’t win fairly.
There was a moment in the match when Becky questioned what else was Liv going to survive. Liv surprised Becky for going the distance with her and her usual tricks just weren’t working. Liv has every right to a rematch and she might get it. But until someone finds a way to either outsmart Becky or play as dirty as her, it’s moot.
The match itself was fine, nothing to write home about—even though I’m writing about it now—and it didn’t really click until Liv turned on the aggression towards the end. But it did serve to add another layer to Becky’s story.
Going into every match, the question is always “whose story are we telling?” For weeks, I thought this was Liv’s story. Tonight, it turns out it’s still Becky’s and we probably have a long way to go until someone else pens their own narrative on top of hers.

The All Mighty Cage
Okay, here’s the thing: I don’t understand why this match was conjured into existence. Do I get it from the standpoint that Big E and Kevin Owens are dope wrestlers who can put on a show? Of course. Put them in a cage and you’ll get more “ahhs” than a dentist. But from a story standpoint, which is a pretty important piece of the puzzle, it makes no sense.
Besides the fact they just wrestled last week, they’re scheduled to battle in a triple threat match with Seth Rollins in a few weeks. If I squint, I can see Big E agreeing to it because he’s down for whatever when it comes to putting boots to asses. It’s not always bright but that’s his character. KO though? Why?
After getting what he wanted last week, there was no legitimate reason for him to want this match. To wit, KO tried to end the match as soon as it started. He made his way for the cage door several times, tried to climb out, went for a quick stunner, and did everything to tell the world he didn’t want the smoke.
Big E wanted to punish Owens while Owens eventually realized he was in a fight. Eventually, E remembered he can’t be here for a long time, but a good time. E made his way to the door and was this close to ending the match until, surprise, Seth Rollins appeared and slammed said door in E’s face.
With all three main players on the field now, the match played out with more urgency. And more urgency means more risks. After Owens hit a Pop Up Powerbomb on the champ, he headed to the cage and started his ascent. E got just enough time to recover, caught KO on the cage, and finished him off with a top rope Big Ending that looked both awkward and painful. E exited the cage and got his hand raised in victory.
But Seth was ringside so you know what happened. But Rollins didn’t get the job done. E stood tall after hammering Rollins and giving another Big Ending to KO.
You know who did get the job done? The All Mighty Bobby Lashley. During the commercial break, he wrecked everyone, leaving them all dismayed and discombobulated.
Lashley felt disrespected not getting an invitation to the Day 1 championship match. I’m sure someone will tell him it was lost in the mail and that triple threat match will all of a sudden become a 4-way dance.

The Rest
RK-BRONAMENT ROUND ONE!
The Street Profits survived round one of the number one contenders tag tournament by simply outsmarting Omos. The big man tagged himself in, shocking Styles, then either forgot the referee was counting as he went to attack Angelo Dawkins outside of the ring, or, to quote Geno, he’s as dumb as he is big. The Profits move on while AJ and Omos look like they’re at a breaking point.
The Mysterios surprised everyone—me especially—with a win over the Alpha Academy. Chad Gable looked primed to beat Dominik after wrenching his knee with a Dragon Screw and using a Moonsault as the final touch. But the young Mysterio wasn’t as hurt as he let on, moved out of the way at the last minute and beat the Full Sail Valedictorian with a roll up.
Oh, and Riddle, playing the role of Howard Cosell, caught Otis’ wrath. Now Riddle is a little banged up because he was on joke time, exactly what Randy Orton feared. And all because he wanted to play journalist. Tsk Tsk.

Curiouser and Curiouser
Bianca Belair and Doudrop put on a pretty good match. Bianca’s power and athleticism was nullified by Doudrop. Belair couldn’t quite solve her. But then the ending happened and I’m confused what we’re doing here. Doudrop wanted this beef because she felt Bianca kept getting things she didn’t deserve. So, she walks out of a match after almost getting hit with a KOD? Bianca was nowhere close to hitting it either, so Doudrop’s reaction is puzzling.

Beating You at January 1
Miz’s slip of the tongue aside, I thoroughly enjoyed this segment. I thought they were heading into the same territory their distinguished competition is doing with Punk and MJF. Then they turned it into something more personal. Miz holds grudges so hard he practically bear hugs them. Wondering why Edge wasn’t kind and compassionate with him 15 years ago adds humanity to a guy who, at times, has more in common with a thinly drawn cartoon character.
Edge rebutting him and giving his side of the story highlights another Miz character trait: He’s incredibly self-absorbed and is always the hero/victim of his story.
I said I wasn’t looking forward to this last week but figured they could talk me into it. That’s exactly what happened. A+ job, gents.

Nobody Likes Me
Queen Zelina pinned Nikki A.S.H. in an extremely short affair designed to emphasize the narrative that homegirl is the weakest link.
They added insult to injury when Nikki believed a young woman, who somehow made her way backstage, was asking for her autograph. Even though she clearly wasn’t making eye contact with Nikki nor talking in her direction. But plot twist, she was talking to Jerry Lawler, Memphis’ favorite son. I think he’s their favorite son. Maybe he’s not? Either way, the real story here is the young woman.
There’s not enough alcohol in the world to convince me she’s a fan of Jerry Lawler. And definitely not enough to fool me into thinking she’s willing to risk it all and go backstage to get his autograph.

Dirty Priest
Big Bob Roode didn’t even get a televised entrance for this United States Open Challenge match. So you tell me if there was any suspense who was going to win? The ending makes it seem like the whole point was to get us to Dolph Ziggler taking on Damian Priest. They need to find something to do with Damian and his run because right now, this ain’t it. Call me crazy, but Ziggler having that belt interests me more at this point.

Raising The Bar
Finn Balor, former NXT Champion, the first Universal Champion, wrestled T-BAR on live television. No words for that.
After it was over, Austin Theory attacked him in an effort to “do something unexpected” and impress Vince McMahon. Keep in mind Austin’s first idea to impress the boss was to workout with his chest and stomach showing. To which I say, “WWE, I don’t think that means what you think it means.”
But yes, Balor is now, apparently, entering a program with Theory.

Raw is solid this week. I don’t know what WWE is doing with Vince and Austin Theory, besides putting Mr. McMahon in the same room as an Austin and seeing if they make magic again. But it ain’t working for me. The show moved this week, which is great because January 1 Day 1 is in three weeks and I’m not sure they can sustain that type of build.

Let’s talk NXT!

Rebel Heart
Professional Wrestling—sorry, Vince—works best when it feels, looks, and smells (maybe not smells) like real life. When we believe everything that happens before and after the bell, it reinforces everything that happens when the bell rings. When Johnny Gargano walks to the NXT ring in front of a packed house chanting his name and giving him flowers, we all know why. Or at least we think we know why.
Gargano’s contract situation with WWE is in flux. He might stay. He might go. He might move on to blue or red pastures. Either way, we believe Johnny Gargano is speaking for the man, not the character he plays in our version of highly-entertaining staged plays. When he talks about his NXT family, it’s real. When he reminisces on his journey from 2015 to this week, we don’t have to question it because we were there every step of the way. Johnny, like all of us, went through a lot in those six years. His specific journey put him in front of sold out arenas, in video games, and his face on action figures. And it’s not bragging because he acknowledged none of that is a thing without every single person who ever bought a ticket or chanted “Johnny Wrestling.” That’s real f’n emotion
It’s also real when Johnny mentions the birth of his son, which is right around the corner. He doesn’t know where his journey will take him next professionally, but personally, he’s ready for “the most important job” he’ll ever have in his life. We know Johnny is leaving; he already said as much. No one holds it against him and no one is angry. It’s all love. Johnny loves the people and the people adore Johnny like no other. Not Johnny Wrestling the performer, but Johnny Gargano the man.
Remember what I said about this whole thing working best when it feels real? That’s why Grayson Waller’s attack elicited pure venom from the crowd in the arena and no doubt several households.
Waller was embarrassed earlier when he tried to flex his WarGames viral moment for a woman who wasn’t as interested as he wanted. To rub salt in the wound, she had date night plans with one LA Knight. I didn’t pay it any mind. Figured it was another page in the book that is their feud.
When Waller reappeared and interrupted Johnny, viciously attacked him, and tried to crush his neck with a chair, I nodded and applauded the storytelling. Waller wants his moment. He’s sick and tired of older cats like Gargano getting the respect and love he believes is his. He wants the whole world to look at him and marvel even though he doesn’t do anything to earn that type of reaction.
The fact that Johnny has more times than most of us can count—especially those of us who suck at math—eats Grayson alive.
Maybe Johnny comes back in a couple weeks with the rage of 1000 suns with sights on Waller’s head. Maybe Tommaso Ciampa tangoes with Waller while his former best friend nurses his injury and goes away. Maybe this whole segment was Johnny’s ultimate goodbye while getting someone else in the territory over. I really can’t call it.
What I do know is what NXT did tonight in its main event spot worked because it perfectly blended real life and pro wrestling, with an unpredictable ultimate outcome. That’s how this thing of ours should be all of the time. And it’s why we keep coming back.

The Rest
Riddle Me This
In retrospect, I don’t know why most of us assumed the MSK Shaman was RVD. Riddle was always the most obvious answer. So yeah, it’s Riddle. He dispensed sage wisdom and then got into the bag with MSK.

Friday the 13th Part VI: A New Beginning
Trick Williams is ducking Dexter Lumis and it might cost Carmelo Hayes. Melo wrestled in his best friend’s place since Trick cited bad vision due to Lumis’ attack at WarGames. This is also another chance to mention how entertaining Trick is. The man can switch from serious to childish screams at the drop of a dime.
Lumis and Hayes put on a good show. A very good show, actually. The moment Lumis went to Silence his opponent, Trick interfered and the ref called for the bell. Trick can’t run forever but I’m looking forward to a very entertaining chase.

Grand Opening, Grand Closing
If Kyle O’Reilly’s job was to get the Performance Center faithful to hate Von Wagner, then mission f’n accomplished. Their opening cage match was certainly a clash of styles, one that built to a very legal low blow from Wagner. Rather than take his victory and walk away, Wagner hung O’Reilly upside down on the ropes, and slammed the cage in his face for good measure.
And the boos rained down like they were in Philly and Von Wagner was Santa Claus. Look it up, it happened.
Job well done, Kyle, if this is indeed your NXT swan song.

LeBron Breakker
For those who don’t know, when someone calls you “LeBron,” it endows you with the same powers as LeBron James. One said power is the ability to make command decisions for the entire organization without actually holding a position of power. Those in the know call him “LeGM.” Malcolm Blevins knew this, so he went to the ring to help Roderick Strong move up in the NXT rankings and challenged Bron Breakker to a match on Strong’s behalf. Bron, or LeBron as Blevins dubbed him, hastily accepted. Bron sees it as one step closer to a third tango with Tommaso Ciampa, so he’s down for whatever. “Whatever” is next week.
LeGM has spoken.

Dirty Pool
Sometimes, there’s nothing better than a tag match between four big men. The Creed Bros.—no relation to Apollo—took on Briggs x Jensen. Imperium stood upon their perch scouting the competition, while the Grizzled Young Veterans were on commentary. Of course, GYV didn’t stay put. Despite their chicanery with the tag rope, Brooks x Josh got the W. In fact, GYV’s entire plan backfired on them.
A rare loss for the Creed Bros, their first if I’m correct, a W for Briggs x Jensen, and NXT’s tag team scene is in good shape with a bunch of teams fighting for contention and with their own stories.

Queen B**ch
No one knows Elektra Lopez’s true allegiance. While Santos Escobar, Xyon Quinn, and the rest of Legado Del Fantasma battled, she plotted. Neither Santos or Xyon did much of anything without keeping an eye on la Primera Dama de LDF.
With Xyon looking at the ceiling after a Escobar’s tippy top rope Hurricanrana, Ms. Lopez put a pair of brass knuckles in Quinn’s hand. The ref saw it, everyone was distracted, and Escobar finished it.
Lopez’s face didn’t betray her feelings one iota. Was she trying to help Xyon? Was she holding down la familia? Intriguing.

Blonde Ambition
Cameron Grimes and Duke Hudson will go one more round. This time? No holds barred. Should be fun if they really lean into that stipulation.

Love Don’t Live Here Anymore
Welp, Persia Pirotta looks like she’s finally—finally—had enough of Indi Hartwell’s lack of focus. Persia finally called her best friend out and for a brief second, it looked like it was clicking with Hartwell. Then her husband walked in, along with her dad, and that was that. I like this story because it’s relatable and humans being human. Indi’s perspective is easy to understand. Indi garners a lot of sympathy and she’s clearly torn. We’re getting closer to a breaking point though.

Toxic Avengers
“Whoever has the gold makes the rules!” Props to Vic Joseph for (I assume) quoting Aladdin’s Jafar. If that didn’t originate from that movie, don’t tell me. Just let me live in ignorance.
Toxic Attraction steamrolled over alentina Feroz x Yulisa Leon.
This gave way to an okay promo from NXT Women’s Champion Mandy Rose. Mandy wanted to talk her trash and issue challenges. Cora Jade step to the ring, followed by Raquel González. At that point, Toxic Attraction bounced for the hills. Mandy has a lot on her plate, and that’s not even mention Kay Lee Ray. My money is on her feeding her two underlings stablemates to her challengers.

I really enjoyed this two hours of NXT. From top to bottom, everything meant something, felt logical, had stakes, and moved forward. Minus the Joe Gacy backstage segment which confused me more than anything else but hey, not everything is for everybody.
The energy of the show, along with the wrestlers feeling like real people for the most part, goes a long way. The closing segment put it over the top and that alone is worth an A in my book or anyone else’s.

What do you guys think of the fan's comment on SmackDown?

See 2 adults crying. Who knows why?

What do you feel about the man's opinion on Bryan Danielson and CM Punk's match routine?

Is there any other wrestler in the business with 8 packs asides Ricochett?

WWE SMACKDOWN REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS

When Friday Night SmackDown kicked off this week with Sami Zayn rolling his way to the ring with a boot on his foot and a neck brace on, flanked by two nurses, I knew we were in for something magical. He cried conspiracy, because of course he did, and then Paul Heyman showed up, surprisingly enough, and the two exchanged some barbs before nearly getting into a physical confrontation that was only stopped when Brock Lesnar showed up, wearing overalls, no less.
I forgot he was going to be on this show, and oh boy were we in for a delight.
Look at the way these two interact:

https://youtu.be/cPKNRenASo8

Right away they get you laughing, as Zayn responds to Lesnar, with a shit eating grin, asking him “how you doing” with an incredulous “I’m not great!” Brock keeps joshing with him, genuinely treating him like a friend he’s giving a hard time to. He plays it so well. The way he nods his head and looks at the ground right at the end of the clip after Zayn tells him how much his feelings are hurt over the situation makes me lose it all over again.
These two are fantastic together. There’s a real chemistry here you don’t often see with Brock. He invites Sami out to Canada where they can bond over hunting and fishing and just generally being Canadian dudes in Canada, and even starts wheeling him out, even when Zayn seems less than enthused. You get the idea that this is just Friend Lesnar, and there’s a terrifying charm to it.
As entertaining as it all is, there was a payoff to all this.
Heyman, seeing this display of fondness and affection, reacts with a mixture of confusion and disgust. Who the hell has Lesnar turned into? Is this really how it is when Brock is left to his own devices? The trademark aggressive nature is still there — you see how pushy he tends to get, even while being friendly — it’s just lurking underneath. As it turns out, he needs someone to help bring that out of him.
As it turns out, that someone is Paul Heyman.
His advocate.
They go right back into the schtick, with Heyman giving him that legendary introduction and Lesnar feeding off it as he goes, growing ever stronger, eventually unleashing a burst of impressive violence on the two nurses before doing the same to poor Sami Zayn, all while Heyman was smiling along. Just like the good ol’ days.
So, then, we’re right back to Final Boss Brock and right back to wondering if Heyman really is still on his side or not. Roman Reigns, for the record, was not on this show and therefore unable to get involved in any of it. Surely he will have much to say about this when he returns next week.
Well done all around.
Later in the show, Lesnar met up with Adam Pearce for a truly bizarre segment where he went into detail about hunting a moose and killing it and eating it and also hanging it up and naming it “Pearce.” That way he remembers being suspended, which he was actually happy about.
Also, Brock uses a flip phone.

This guy, man. He sure is something.

All the rest
Shinsuke Nakamura & Rick Boogs defeated Los Lotharios in a strangely short match considering they pushed on commentary that the latter team was undefeated since coming over to SmackDown. Seems odd to just throw that away for a random match on a random Friday night, but such is life in WWE.

Oh no, there’s a higher authority again.
Drew McIntyre was told the higher authority didn’t want him in the battle royal, and that also he needs to stop taking that big ass sword to the ring, probably because he tried to murder some guys with it. Even without it, he beat Sheamus clean in the middle of the ring and he “continues to roll on Friday nights,” as Michael Cole put it. He got his sword stolen by Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss, though.

I’m not sure how crazy I am about debuting Xia Li, she who helps the oppressed, by having her make the save for Naomi. It makes sense from that character perspective, I suppose, but I strongly dislike how one-sided this entire program between Naomi and Sonya Deville has been. Naomi badly needs a win here, somewhere, somehow, and without someone else coming to save the day for her. In this case, Li was more or less just acting as an equalizer, and there’s still time to put Naomi over, but they’ve been dragging this out too long and now the focus turned to the big debut they hyped for weeks and is much less about Naomi finally getting hers. It’s fine, it just didn’t sit right as I watched it live. Your mileage may vary.

Toni Storm was given a “championship contender’s match” against the SmackDown women’s champion herself, Charlotte Flair, and she got the trash beat out of her. She won by disqualification because of it, of course, but it was done in such a way that Flair decided she was done with someone she sees as underneath her and went about making that clear in a very physical manner, regardless of the rules. We’ll see if this somehow means Storm gets another match but Sasha Banks buddied up with her earlier in the night, so perhaps we aren’t far away from her getting involved once more.

The main event of this show was a triple threat tag team match pitting Raw Tag Team Champions RK-Bro vs. SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos vs. The New Day in a match that would decide, as they kept pushing all throughout the evening, the best tag team in all of WWE. Naturally, the match was entirely built around making the crowd want Randy Orton to tag in, his doing so, running wild, and then getting taken out late to give Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston time to steal the match. Immediately, commentary said “they’re the greatest tag team in WWE tonight.” Funny how they added “tonight” onto that. It was a fun match, though.

I’m a big Lesnar fan, and loved all this interaction with Zayn, so this show was fun for me. The non-Lesnar stuff was mostly bland, though there was plenty of solid wrestling throughout the night.

my question is what's the use of the brand split and the "Survivor Series is the only time RAW and SmackDown get to compete in a year" if RAW and SmackDown tag team can compete any time they want. It's becoming ridiculous.
