How Easy Is It To Retire From The Nigeria Military? by LeeSantos(op):
I have being reading news on the number soldiers dying.
And it kept me wondering if a soldier is posted to a location where it is certain he/she coming back home is near 0.

Questions

1. Can the soldier reject the posting? If no Why?
2. If they're not allowed to reject posting. Will the army let such personnel retired..

Modified
I had this far relative who joined army 2019, but he's late now. Died in the northern part of the country on his first mission, first day out of training. I didn't bother asking how he join, whether recruit. I didn't want to know because I was angry at the news of him joining Nigeria armyin the first place.

I have always wanted to ask if someone was posted to a hot zone, can they change or leave the army. But I keep forgetting.

1. No
Reason is you are " directed to comply"...your intuition or opinions is not valid.
2.retirement depends on many factors
-years of service
-type of commission
-your OC (officer commanding)
- your unit of posting
-etc
So in this current situation that Nigeria is fighting on many fronts,it needs all the help it can get so voluntary retirement option is very slim

Cases where one doesn't wish to serve despite the blockroads faced. One contemplates Dashing(Blowing AWOL). Away without official leave, never to return.

@OP.

1. If you are posted and you don't like the new place, if you have someone to help you (God father), you can delete the posting before you even go to the new environment self.

2. You can retired from the service willingly once you work 10 years in the service.

Note: your retirement won't be granted if you haven't use 10yrs in service at least.

Most soldiers below that year go deserted or blow AWOL

Other country's solders don't die the way they do here in Nigeria. Except from some Islamic country were it always war and chaos.

So joining the military in those countries is safer, know you not dying anything soon.

Just to clear the air.
Once a soldier deserts from the military, he is declared wanted by the military for desertion as it is a crime, of course, such soldier is dismissed from the military after a period of time if found guilty of desertion (that is he or she did not die in battlefield or isn't lost somewhere on the battlefield). So in most cases, they go underground(run to neighbouring African countries or relocate to another state to reside), the military doesn't take looking for deserted soldiers seriously that's why those who desert can relocate to a different state and not be found till kingdom come. Some even stay at their default place of residence. That's how bad the system is right now. But it is changing for the better. smiley

If I was a soldier sent to locate the deserter. Even if I find them I will report I didn't see them. Someone can not even celebrate 1 year anniversary I the military. Poof they are gone so fast like they were never even there in the first place .
