This genotype stuff is real.A friend who is in his mid forties use his hand to bury four of his children due to a genotopical imbalance.

I understand, my asking for source wasn’t to undermine the op. It was to learn from a journal rather than rely on “common knowledge”. I am AA and I don’t have malaria. It made me curious to learn more. Turns out because I’m blood group ‘O’, I’m more resistant. I hope you understand my angle too? Peace bro.
Fuckthamods:
You don't need a source for this na.. It's a very common knowledge. You can ask your doctor.

4? He should have divorced after one. For his sake, his wife’s sake and for the future children who will ultimately suffer before dying (I understand there’s a chance they bare a child with as, but that’s too big of a gamble).

But my father and mother are both AS, we, the children are 5. All of us are AS, no SS.
Pure luck..
My parents are both AS.. 3 out of 5 children are SS

Guess they are a family of SS.

This genotype stuff made me believe in the survival of the fittest.

Soon those with AS and SS will be without partners for procreation because AA wants to marry only AA.

But it is interesting to note that genotype isn't a topic of discussion when dating or marrying in the developed world.
Actually it is but the occurrence is rate due to the underlying factors such as the weather and genealogy.

I DON'T CARE IF THE CHILD IS MINE OR NOT SO FAR THE CHILD IS READY TO TAKE ME AS FATHER AND THE MUM SEE ME AS HUSBAND. I WILL CARRY ON MY RESPONSIBILITY. IF YOU VALUE HAPPINESS OVER BEEN RIGHT OR WRONG DON'T EVEN THINK OF DNA.

It's not just the developed world.

I realize this topic tends to feature a lot in Nigeria. Never in my life have I ever met citizens of a country who are constantly discussing AA, AS and SS outside of a Biology class. Of course that's when they aren't discussing the "sad" state of single females, ashawo, olosho, clitocurrency, toto, kpekus, yansh and the likes.

Having said that, I fully understand where they're coming from, considering that Nigeria has got the highest rates of Sickle Cell Disease in the continent (and possibly the world).

Maybe soon Nigerian citizens will be required to walk around with their health reports as a badge or wrist band. So before you even qualify for a "hello", "hey, how are you?" from a potential partner, they will have prior knowledge of whether they should pursue or dismiss you.

You’re right. Most people abroad are AA because there’s no malaria epidemic there. I watched a documentary where someone explained that our body cells in Africa started to sickle their shapes in order to fight and adapt more to the malaria parasites

I be AS and I go still marry my babe wey be AS undecided
All the woes of the universe would befall you if you bring in innocent kids to suffer and die untimely due to that fleeting emotion you call love.

If she's AS and you are too, and you can't afford gene selection, don't have kids. Don't.

I've seen to many young people die of this hubris. Jesus isn't going to save you.

Because Sickle cell Anaemia is a predominantly black man disease..

Common medical knowledge..

AS is known to be malaria resistant..

And that's why it is rampant in Africa..

Survival of the Fittest..

I don't understand what you meant. How can AA have high mortality rate when they are the ones with the stronger genes?

Btw, during those days, there was nothing like genotype, nobody tested for it, people attributed those type of death to witch craft
AA has high mortality rate..

When it comes to malaria..

Which is ubiquitous in Africa..

Being an AS is actually better..

They don't suffer from severe malaria and they don't suffer from Sickle cell Anaemia...

The only bad thing is..

They transmit the SS genotype..

"Survival of the fittest" you say. The sickle cell gene evolved in regions with high incidence of malaria. It evolved to offer their carrier protection from the otherwise deadly pathogen. Last I checked, malaria is still a problem in most parts of Africa.

Marry who you love. Forget about Genotype.
A great loving caring and nurturing sensible loyal responsible and hardworking woman with SS or AS would be preferable to an AA woman that is not wife material.

Same thing goes for Men.

Don't let the likes deceive you. How old are you?
Sickle cell is only prevalent in Africa that is why people abroad don't care about it.

Babinski:
Blacks are the most susceptible race to Sickle Cell Anemia with occurrence as high as 4% in some population.

People with sickle cell trait can be found most heavily in areas of the world that have malaria. This is because sickle cell trait can protect a person from becoming infected with malaria.

dettolgel:
The simple answer is that those along the malaria belt evolve to have AS as a way to survive malaria which is not an issue in the west.
Gmajor:
Sickle cell is more common in people of African descent
LordReed:
Because it is something that primarily affects us in subsaharan Africa.
Imjustagirl:
Because it is only prevalent in the black race
zoedew:
Largely because sickle cell disease is a Blackman challenge.
LLiKYekoba:
Because the white man does not carry the sickle gene that evolved solely in the black man in order to help him survive malaria for thousands of years in Africa.

Sickle cell is solely a black man's disease.
nathanomochi:
They rarely or don't even have sicklers out there cos they don't or rarely again come down with malaria. SS is exclusive to west Africa/mid asia

grandstar comment below answers you all...

thebosstrevor1 comment was ignorant of the African American population in the U.S , Indians, black people who have been outside Africa for hundreds and thousands of years in the caribeans/south America/ north America/ Asia and black people who have been in Europe for 50 or more years all have SS but its silent in those places and I mentioned his comment because he talks as if there aren't black people who are indigenous to the "developed world" or black people who have been living in the "developed world" since the 1800s or before...

grandstar:
SS mostly affects Blacks. If a white person suffers from it, they most likely have Black ancestory. So, it need not be an issue for dating or marrying.

However, it is a silent problem amongst African Americans. It may not be as pronounced as it is here but many over there suffer from it.

Forget about that marriage stuff. We are increasingly living in a world tilted towards babies born to baby-mamas and papas rather through a marriage

In such a clime, genotype be damned. Fulfilling lust comes first with its unwanted pregnancies and children.
