Fresh from finishing my mud/fluid engineering course with one firm in PH after graduating couple of years back. It was coincidentally 2015 when the oil prices crashed and there were terrible retrenchment of workforce in the oil and gas sector. Most companies weren't hiring and those who were working did with fear knowing that you might get sacked the next day. If the whole of trans Amadi port harcourt remember or sees that my shoe i used to treck the whole of that area submitting hard copy CV almost daily for 3 straight months the land will start running away grin grin grin it wasn't pleasant at all. From Hobark to baker Hughes , from Halliburton to Petrobas. Where I wan begin sending CVS both online and offline.

One faithful day i had woken up early to go back to my CV submitting spree.
I've trekked the whole of trans Amadi as usual and i was really exhausted the day was already rounding off. So i saw this company that was into NDT and i decided to give it a last shot. I was terribly tired!
Got to the gate and explained to the security man my mission. The man changed it for me o.
GM: My friend will you walk out of this place!!!
Me: Dead silence! **Frustrated to my soul, tired and drowsy. I wanted to burst out crying, it was just too much**
GM: oga you didn't hear what i said?
Me: Bursts out with a mighty laughter!( I honestly don't know what came over me, I'm supposed to be crying right now)
GM: Oga, abeg I'm sorry no vex. I don't know what came over me.
Me: Dead silence again
GM: but Oga why are you laughing
Me: I could be your boss tomorrow, but this is how you treat me? Turns to leave
GM: grabs my hand and starts pleading, actually shedding tears.
GM: do you know i have children? All graduates and non of them is working even with their good results? 3 of them have brought their CVS to this same company and none have been employed. I'm just tired and frustrated. Even i myself I'm a HND owner but I've been stuck in this gate for 15 years now!!!
It was at this moment i started to understand he was more frustrated than I am and he apologized for his conduct. We sat in his small security room and he bought me a chilled drink collected my CV and promised to submit it to the HR even though it was against company policy. We had a long chat and talked about lots of things. Even exchanged numbers before I left. This was around may/June 2015. I left PH for Abuja and stayed for a while. Got 50k job in Abuja but it included weekend and i rejected the offer. A family friend invited me to where he stayed in one country like that. The Night to the morning i was about to leave for this country everything was set. I got an sms from that man's company inviting me for an interview 10:am the next day. I was torn. It was already November.
Well there was no way i can fly back to PH from Lagos next day and still meet up for the invite. Stuck to my guns and Japa to that country. Never have regretted my decision. cheesy.

To those still job hunting out there. GOD THAT DID IT FOR ME WILL DO BETTER FOR YOU ALL. KEEP BELIEVING

I kitted up and went straight to ABC TRANSPORT PLC.
The security isn't as stiffnecked as other people's experiences.

I told the security that I was looking for one Mr Verera Regha.
I had thought he was a foreigner.
I got his name from their website. He is the Head of safety.

I met a staff that looked elderly, spoke to him, he looked at my CV and felt it had merit, and directed me by hand, to go submit my cv to the People's manager.

Within 3 months, I got called for exam, passed and went for the interview...worked there for 4yrs before I resigned due to...*****

It was a great working experience. The members of staff are very good people to work with...if you know your way around office politics.

After my NYSC year (2011), I have been doing hard labour from one company to another as a factory worker. Even, I followed motor as motor boy at Kuje to distribute pure water to Lugbe market, Jabi market, Area 1 to 10, Supply to Gwarinpa (Otedola Avenue) to Otedola main house, to zone 1 to 5. Omo you can't do all these without Gin or pelebe cos we do carry coverbody Mackapolo motor that contains 1000 bags of pure water. If motor spoil for road you gat to sleep there with motor to avoid looting part of the motor. There was a day i returned from my first trip and the manager perceived Gin odour from me and she exposed me to my guarantors. They later frustrated me out of the job. I left Abuja and opened my self employed biz (Cloth Designer). There was high patronage but low profit due my specialised on Design only. I closed shop and dropped my sucide note on nairaland and it makes front page that year. Mr Seun ( Nairaland C. E. O) connected and linked with some tech guys but they can't help, they are asking me for some tech certificates which I don't have. This is my year of testimony. I gained appointment into federal government agency. Testimony at last.

Wow! God is so good to you bro.
I Thank God for you.
Don't forget others.

My experience so far has been terrible, Since i concluded my NYSC in 2019 I've trekked every corner of Lagos searching for a job. I've submitted my CV and Application letter to companies and law firms in Lekki, Ikoyi, Alausa, Opebi, Allen, Apapa etc. Sometimes when you get to the gate and explain to the security guards that you want to submit your CV for any job opening available they will bounce you out immediately. I don suffer sha i don do fasting and prayers on top of job matter.... But i know 2022 will be a better year. With the frustration instead of sitting at home i decided to work with a Law Firm close to my house the pay is 20k, i believe God has something better in store for me this coming 2022.
I have a friend in Lagos looking for job, he trecked the Island but couldn't find a law firm job, funny enough 90% of jobs adverts are from Lagos but they are scam.

The security man opened the gate for me, and then when I asked for the HR office, we had the following conversation:

Me: Good morning, where is the HR office?
S: Any problem sir?
Me: Not at all, I want to submit my CV
S: Nawa o... I think say you be staff o... So u nor get work naim u dress like who get work?? Vacancy nor de..

Since then I've not returned to that their office again

2015, fresh from the UK with an MSc. I remember driving into Greenwich on Oyin Jolayemi with hard copy CV. The security men must have thought i was a client as they just asked me to sign in.

At the reception, i told the receptionist, see oh, i just came to drop CV, i know you guys don't accept hard copy, but just help me. She looked at me for a while, then collected my CV.

About a month later, I got invited for an interview. When i arrived the office for the interview, a young chap was trying to submit his own hard copy CV too... the same lady told him point blank: we don't accept hard-copy CV's here. I later got an offer from them, but i had resumed elsewhere.

To the receptionist that collected my CV and facilitated the interview, God bless you immensely. I really should have collected her details to call and thank her properly.

They gave you the job because you studied in uk
