WWE RAW REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS Ready to get started? Let’s talk Raw! All Mighty Marathon Man I promised to always keep it real with you. These are my thoughts, whether you agree, right or wrong. It’s just how I’m feeling at the moment. And right now? Despite some parts of it being really entertaining, none of this main story running through Raw this week made an iota of sense. Let’s start with the fact WWE used the tried and true “stack the deck” trope against Bobby Lashley, a heel. One doesn’t simply stack decks against heels. Because, duh, they’re bad guys. You stack the deck against the good guys because it garners sympathy, gives the fans something to cheer for, and it’s unfair. To say nothing of the fact two of Lashley’s three matches were against other bad guys! So what exactly is the audience rooting for? If we’re not supposed to like Kevin Owens or Bobby Lashley, why do we care who wins the match? Especially when the former makes a quick tap to preserve himself for the upcoming big match. Same goes for Lashley and Seth Rollins. To quote a certain Tribal Chief, it’s confusing. When Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville—still the two worst people at any job other than NY Giants GM Dave Gettleman—declared Lashley’s matches were No DQ after KO got Lashley disqualified in his match with Seth, they presented it as something to excite the crowd. Big E is the champion and this week, WWE did more to garner goodwill towards a dastardly fiend than their babyface with the gold around his waist. This speaks to WWE’s weird booking on Raw. Especially the fluidity Pearce and Deville display on the regular. Depending on the show or the week, the two are either neutral umpires calling balls and strikes, or they’re either bad to the bone or goodie two shoes. Sometimes, they’re all three on the same show. All of this is why I felt nothing during the main event. Lashley and Big E make beautiful music together but their notes are drowned out from all the noise around them. Which sucks because their No DQ match was as physical as you think it was. Rollins and KO interfering to take out Lashley is one of those disconnected moments. I get it. They want to preserve their advantage and not share a ring with another man. Word. But in doing so, they once again make everything weird. E fended them off because he’s a man of honor and wants to do it the right way. Of course, his righteousness came back to haunt him when MVP struck E’s knee with a cane, allowing Lashley to hit a spear and earn his way into the Fatal 4-Way at More stakes for E as he rings in 2022, but the way we got here just doesn’t compute. Best part of the whole story? Seth’s suit and then Seth complimenting Bobby’s suit. Love to see two cats giving each other props for looking fly. The Rest Another January 1 Rematch I’m not feeling Liv on the microphone. I’m not sure what it is, but she sounds too rehearsed and I can hear her thinking. That said, when she gets physical and responds to Becky’s jackass routine, I buy it. Becky injured Liv and accepted her challenge for a rematch at Day 1. Typical heel move and a good way to keep building heat for Becky Lynch. That said, Liv has to get a W or else this is really just spinning wheels. Big O Gets a Very Big W Otis beat Riddle in pretty dominant fashion. Riddle had his moments, sure, but this was all Otis all the time. The story? Riddle isn’t focused and no matter what Randy Orton says, his tag partner refuses to put all of his energy into his matches. Bianca Wins the Battle But... This feud confuses me at the moment. I get Doudrop’s motivation and why she wants to beat Bianca. But in two tries now, she came up short. Once by DQ and now with her shoulders on the mat for three seconds. Bianca can’t overpower her like everyone else, but she just outsmarts her and uses Doudrop’s weight against her. But after the match, Doudrop attacked Belair. Frustration? Sure. But that means this will keep going. Belair has two wins under her belt now, what legitimate reason does she have to keep fighting? Over the Edge The most interesting part of Edge and Miz’s latest back and forth was Miz using Maryse as a human shield. Maryse’s husband erred because she wasn’t feeling that. Not one bit. The segment ended with Maryse slapping her husband because as the mother of his two children, she can’t put herself in that kind of danger anymore. This adds some intrigue and another layer because before that, it was yawn city. Edge presented another version of what he said last week, while Miz provided more smugness and violence. This program is exhibit A that one month is way too long for the way WWE builds matches. Theory’s Dirty Deeds Austin Theory and Finn Balor are going to tango. Either next week or at Day 1. My money is on both. Theory interfered as Balor and Damian Priest took on the Dirty Dawgs. It was actually a fun tag match until Theory interfered and cut it way too short. Nikki A.N.C.H.O.R. Queen Zelina defeated Rhea Ripley. Clean. In the middle of the ring. While that in itself is enough to go “word?” it’s how Zelina beat her that matters. Well, it matters to some. Nikki A.S.H. keeps proving she’s an anchor around Rhea’s waist. She’s the reason they’re no longer tag champs, and now she’s the cause for Rhea taking a rare L. And Rhea knows it too. I’m interested because I really want to know how this ends. 24/7 Still a Thing I have no words for this. Wasn’t feeling Raw tonight. The bright spots didn’t have the intensity to blot out the dullness and poor logic around them. Plus, we’re still getting this thing with Vince McMahon and Austin Theory, which now includes a pencil eraser. Sure, Jan. One month is too long for WWE, as they’re doing their best to fill the hours. Only problem is their best isn’t that great this week. Corey Graves summed up my feelings on Raw best: Of all the things I’ve seen, that was the most recent. Grade: D |

pu7pl3:looking at it now, I get your point. Having Big E(the champion) take the pin is bad booking, especially after Lashley had already faced 2 guys and is more exhausted, but anyway it's Big E right.. Vince will never have Roman take a pin like that. |

pu7pl3:I doubt man. Lookat Kofi, he has only been close to a title win once...and that was just a filler. Man let's agree, even if it's to disagree, with the cartoon gimmicks, cereal, pancakes and the goofy dance routine, New Day is mid-card for life. That's how I see it bro. |
| Re: Purpl3's WWE (and Pro-wrestling in general) Discussion And Banter House by pu7pl3(op): 3:09pm On Dec 14, 2021 |
ValeeLove:you're confusing losing once in a while/here and there as midcard...they are the most decorated tag team in WWE bro and Big E has more of that "it" factor than Kofi so I don't see him going the Kofi route |
| Re: Purpl3's WWE (and Pro-wrestling in general) Discussion And Banter House by ValeeLove(m): 4:25pm On Dec 14, 2021 |
pu7pl3:they are the most decorated tagteam in WWE, because that's the safest and sometimes only place to perform...give them a mid-card title sometimes and that's the only thing the New Day need for 7 years. Didn't you know the New Day was created because the 3 were trying to keep their jobs? Out of them all, Kofi was the only one of them capable of surviving alone as a matter of fact he was supposed to get a world title push early in his career before Randy halted it...so yeah I think Kofi has more of 'It' than Big E who spent years to finally get a world title, but hey different strokes for different folks. I still feel bad for New Day. They are great, but the goofy gimmick, though entertaining, is a bit of a drawback for them. |

ValeeLove:How can you look at Big E and Kofi and say that Kofi has more of the "it" factor? Big E already looked like a champion even without holding any title, plus he is Vince type of guy, Huge. The goofy gimmick is not a drawback, I don't know how you see it but it's actually what catapulted them, they have even taken it down a notch currently but it doesn't mean they're mid-card...it's just like saying AJ Styles is mid-card cos he isn't going after my major titles currently...there are midcard tagteams and there are top tier tag teams and the new day are top tier tag teams. Big E is top tier Talent and would continue to hunt for the world titles like a Drew McIntyre or a Bobby Lashley |

Goofy gimmick didn't halter jericho and Kenny omega's AEW world title runs as well as the bucks. However, since its wwe some people will critcize it unlike AEW which can seemingly do no wrong. Alternatively, if Big E was a silent badass like lashley, people would complain he's boring. You can be a badass and still get to joke around at same time. Look back at when the stars like the rock would good around and fued with the hurricane or Austin would prank and make fun of mcmahon. |

WWE NXT REVIEWS RECAPS AND REACTIONS Hard Knock Life Bron Breakker is a freak. Some might say of the genetic variety, though I hear that designation is already taken. That athletic ability isn’t enough to get what he wants from Tommaso Ciampa. At least not yet. Bron knows this, so he eagerly accepted Roderick Strong’s challenge. Strong, wanting to get his own shine, issued the challenge knowing Bron is big time and an automatic main event spot. Both men used each other to move to bigger and better things. Unfortunately, they both got more than they bargained for this week. Bron showed he can handle a match with one of the very best. Strong didn’t take it easy on him and probably underestimated his younger opponent. In another example of old school vs. new school, Roderick figured the technique and skill that took him to great heights in NXT might work against an inexperienced Bron. Nah ah, as Steve Austin used to say. Bron survived everything, even the Stronghold, and put on a clinic of his own with a shoulder tackle, belly-to-belly suplex, Frankensteiner, and then finally, his favorite military press powerslam. Strong did get more eyes on him, including Carmelo Hayes. But he took an L for his troubles. Bron did prove he’s not a flash in the pan and can beat someone with experience. But he ended the show on his back after Ciampa attacked him post match and trash talked him in the process. “Welcome back to the deep end. Just remember Bron: Sharks swim here.” And Ciampa finished it with a kiss on the cheek, Don Corelone- style. Ciampa wants another match with Bron, but he wants to embarrass him first. Eventually, we’ll get a changing of the guard. Stevie Wonder can see that. Before we get there, the champ wants to build Bron into what he believes is a worthy opponent. The Rest Man on the Moon Cameron Grimes danced with Duke Hudson in a No Holds Barred (brother) match. Grimes won the show opener and revealed that, shock of all shocks, Hudson is newborn baby bald underneath that ridiculous wig. A fun opener that Hudson dominated until his attitude and cockiness got the better of him. Grimes capitalized and hopefully both men can move on now. Me Against the World Grayson Waller didn’t set my world on fire with his promo, but it was effective. The NXT faithful barely let him get a word in edge wise as he played the typical notes a heel in his position plays. He’s better than us, we’re all envious of his success, and he’s a star on social media. He tried getting the fans on his side but now he doesn’t care and doesn’t need us. Well, guess what Grayson? We don’t need you either. Grayson found himself ostracized by the locker room before beating up LA Knight, then stealing his car and (apparently) his date. It’s not doing a lot for me even though I get what they’re going for. Hardcore At a certain point, Ivy Nile needs to challenge for the NXT Women’s Championship, right? They’re keeping her away from all the big players for some reason and letting her beat up on everyone else. She was in a bit of jeopardy this week with Amari Miller, but the end was never in doubt. Even though Miller got an entrance! If we’re building Nile into a killer, she needs to hunt bigger game sooner rather than later. Death Certificate Harland finally hit the ring and, obviously, made proper quick work of his opponent. This weird thing between he and Joe Gacy is just that, weird. I’m not into it but I’m curious? Weird, right? Harland finished his night tossing Brian Kendrick down a flight of steps. They’re doing a lot to make this the wrestling version of fetch. Midnight Marauders Another lesson from MSK’s Shaman, more development for two cats finding their way back to tag team glory after losing the titles. Randy Orton will not be happy with Riddle’s detour, but I’m coming around on these segments. They’re giving MSK an interior life, which always helps for investment. Queen Cora Jade and Dakota Kai put on a rough match this week. Dakota is dope as always but Cora still needs more polish. Jade got the lucky win after Dakota bit off more than she can chew and went for the shovel. Wasn’t like she needed to go for it but hey, that’s what she did. Mandy Rose was on commentary and after the match, her Toxic Attraction sisters, along with Raquel Gonzalez, came ringside with their own agendas. Raquel has her sights on Dakota for revenge, but eventually she and Cora will deal with each other since they both want the title. Before their match, Dakota told Cora to watch her back as long as Raquel is standing behind her, but the rookie wasn't hearing it. Me thinks she’ll rue the day she ignored that advice. And before we exit this segment, let us acknowledge the word “simp” was said on a WWE program, followed by “simpin’ ain’t easy.” That is all. Goodfellas Tony D’Angelo and Andre Chase put on a competitive match. Chase never had a shot because he’s pure comedy right now, but it served to get Tony D more over and further his story with Pete Dunne. Speaking of the bruiserweight, Dunne made his presence known when Tony D got on the mic and called him out. A scuffle ensued, tough words were thrown, and Dunne got his mouthguard back. Wish that was the prize at the end of the rainbow for Dunne rather than the thing he gets before the two even lock up. Unpredictable Not sure what they’re doing with Edris Enofe. He got one of those personal video packages WWE excels at, lost his first match against Solo Sikoa, then lost his match this week against Boa. Sikoa was backstage watching for what I assume was to keep an eye on a guy he respects. That guy is Enofe, not Boa. Two losses in a row, especially after picking this fight with Boa, isn’t a good look. Strictly Business Jacket Time got the W over Grizzled Young Veterans in a good tag match. The Creed Bros. showed up to scout the competition, distracting GYV, and allowing Jacket Time to go home happy. I like the idea of different teams scouting every week. Makes the division feel alive and connected rather than just disjointed matches happening for the sake of it. While Imperium rules the roost, NXT is doing all it can to prove several worthy teams can knock them off any given Tuesday. Or Sunday. Good show! What I like most about NXT 2.0 is the wrestlers have interior lives. They’re fleshing them all out and giving them more than just monikers or catchphrases. NXT 2.0 is home to legitimate honest-to-God characters who just so happen to wrestle. Grade: B |

samistry:I've read your examples, I would have addressed each, but I'll say this instead, being funny ain't totally the same as being silly... The Rock is funny, elseworth is goofy. The major difference is even though The Rock jokes he knows when to be serious, we know he's just doing it for fun and when it's time he's gonna get serious. In elseworths case, it's a default state. The Hurricane is another example of goofy. He's entertaining but was he ever over, to a champion's. Remember the B-team? All these and more examples of goofy gimmicks WWE has had in the past, but no matter how entertaining they were they never fully broke through the ceiling to be taken seriously, we don't rember that much because they never got over, for obvious reasons. New Day can be entertaining without being goofy. That's all I'm gonna say about that; but just like I said, it's different strokes for different folks. |

It is one because MJF was once a member of WWE's Tough Enough and worked as an extra with them for a while(remember the Samoa Joe backstage entrance video where MJF was one of his body guards and Joe pushed him at one time), plus MJF has always expressed his desire in interviews and promos that he wants to work for WWE. |
