kingsceemark:Most blacks in Salvador Brazil Associates more with Yoruba culture and tradition, it is a known fact that most yorubas are aware of, we do not chest beat or celebrate petty stuffs because being Yoruba is enough. Your people are the ones that masturbate over petty stuff just to mask their empty ness, those stuffs you chest beat on are just regular stuffs to the Yorubas and funny enough, you still do it on a Yoruba owned platform......... like I always say, A well celebrated event in Burkina Faso is an ordinary side show in Germany. |

Magnoliaa:Your interest gladens me Olópa more correctly means "One with a baton"; this is because the early colonial police used to walk around with batons in a similar fashion to the way our modern police walk around with AK-47. |

IjapaTiroko:Yup. That was exactly how it was explained on the page I saw it. Its origin is from the colonial periods. I just used the stick there just to bring it down a bit to a general term, but stick means 'igi,' I know. |

Lucas4903:That is the biggest problem we have in Nigeria. There are so many things you can do to make money in Nigeria, but the people are just clueless to local opportunities. They look down on non-office based occupations. They see them as 'sufferhead' jobs. If you go to Jamaica, there are people who have built beach mansions just by selling their national dishes like Jerk Chicken and Jerk Pork in roadside joints, to tourists. Well packaged of course. |

I have been to Salvador and had a chance to taste the akaraje. Basically it is blended beans fried in palm oil with local variation. Conversely the Brazilians gave us cassava, which we use as garri. Tapioca and Macao. There is a strong Yoruba influence in Salvador Bahia. I was told that when Slaves where brought over by the uropeans, they gave the Slaves new names and forced they to forget their identity. The Slaves came mainly from Southern and West Africa, but only the Yorubas were able to maintain and pass on their culture. The other Africans later had no other choice than to adopt the Yoruba Orisha religion. Hence the Yoruba culture became the dominant African culture in Brazil. One thing about Nigerians is they tend to dominate others Africans wherever they find themselves. All hail Nigeria, potentially the most powerful country on planet earth. Pity we are no where near our full potential. |
