African Spirituality in the Americas: Yoruba Orishas in Brazil

Spirituality is one of the cultural systems that Africans have best perpetuated and recreated beyond their continent of origin. Many of the Africans enslaved in the Americas brought with them spiritual beings whom they continue to worship in their imposed homelands, sometimes even establishing them as characteristic of the new societies of the hemisphere.

In Salvador, capital of the state of Bahia in Brazil, culture of African origin is most visible and pervasive. The Orishas, the spiritual beings of the Yoruba people of Nigeria and Benin in West Africa, reign in public life.

IjapaTiroko:

There are two types of Àkàrà:

The first type of àkàrà is offered to an Òrìsà. This type is usually bland and not prepared with any sweetening ingredients.
The second one (which is the popular one) is the snack, which you can buy by the roadside or shop like the one in the first picture, hence why it's called "Acaraje" or Àkàra jí je (Translation: The Àkàrà to eat). This type can be made with all sorts of spices and ingredients and is usually taken with ògì or gaàrí among Yòrùbás in West Africa..

PS: Àkàrà means: The thing you count to buy. This is because it's usually sold in units.
You are right.

Not likely, they definitely did. We gave them akara, they gave us garri. Nice combo.

Yoruba people oya make una begin masturbate and cerebrate, akaraje sounds like Yoruba language
Nobody is masturbating over anything dude ! Read up and learn, most black people of Bahia state in Brazil are of Yoruba ancestry. It is a fact. Those guys worship all Yoruba deities and practise traditional Yoruba religion. In spite of long year of slavery and its devastating effects on them,Yoruba of Bahia retain their Yoruba culture and traditions till today. Oxun is Osun,Xango is Sango,Orin is Orin ( song),Acara is Akara, wa je is wa jehun ( come and eat) and many more !

Bahians of Brazil have never hidden their Yoruba ancestry and heritage. This is why they and Yoruba of other Americas - Cuba,Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Oyo tunji (Sheldon,USA),Venezuela etc come in their large numbers each year to participate in the annual Osun Osogbo festival.

It is difficult to separate Yoruba people and their culture. They take their culture to wherever they are found. It is the same thing you'll find in all Yoruba communities in west Africa - from Nigeria to Benin republic,Togo,
Ghana,Sierra Leone, Gambia etc. How about the Yoruba in non Yoruba state like Delta state of Nigeria ? The Olukumi of Delta state retain their Yorubaness too !

No vex;na so baba God create us ! It goes beyond any childish masturbation or whatever !

Akara was brought by brazillians into Nigeria by the Brazilian slave traders
So...for thousands of years, Yoruba women never knew how to prepare Akara, until the ... Portuguese or American-Indian indigenous peoples of Brazil? , came to wage war ( that's right, slave trade was war!) on Africans from the 15th century- 19 the century ( spy the land first and try to conquer 400 years later).
I greet your IQ.

Would have preferred Argentina that will grant you citizenship in just two years of being a legal resident. A passport that can get you to all EU countries without visa. All first world countries except US and Canada

That is the biggest problem we have in Nigeria. There are so many things you can do to make money in Nigeria, but the people are just clueless to local opportunities. They look down on non-office based occupations. They see them as 'sufferhead' jobs. If you go to Jamaica, there are people who have built beach mansions just by selling their national dishes like Jerk Chicken and Jerk Pork in roadside joints, to tourists. Well packaged of course.
