in those countries you can only travel legally with work visa meaning you get a job offer. If you are not in tech, medicine,auditing etc you cant get a job offer, your degrees are useless. To go there on tourist visa you have to proof you balance well for nigeria thru good job, bank account and family ties. And convince them you wont elope. Has nothing to do with degree. An igbo business man with 20m account balance and no degree with get visa. While mr masters with 80k salary and 1m savings will be rejected.

yeah, it is a major factor. However, they look at your overall profile for the admission decision. This entails your GP, test scores, quality of letter of recommendation, statement of purpose.

Currently now, yes it won't be easy for you without good travel experience, unless you have a strong reason with strong evidence to convince the VO why you want to travel.



If you are traveling as a tourist without prior travel experience, forget it.


If you are traveling as a student with good sponsorship and academic background, you stand a great chance.


If you are traveling as an immigrant going to meet his or her spouse, yours is over sure, nothing concern you with travel experience.


If you are traveling for business...then you ought to have good travel experience.

Most US PhD programs are accompanied by full funding, so you should be fine once you secure an admission.

I think the same can also be said about Canada, but I am not sure of how funding works in Canada.
