It has always been the case in Nigerian politics that Ibos go their own way and Yoruba go their own way 1. In 1960 at Independence Azikiwe formed a coalition with Balewa to form the central government and shortly after they jailed Awolowo 2. In 1965 after controversial elections Azikiwe and Balewa continued their coalition and Yoruba remained in opposition 3. In 1979 we changed to a Presidential system and Shagari won. He did not have a majority in the National Assembly. He did a deal with Azikiwe and Azikiwe's party the NPP were handed the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Awolowo was confined to opposition and were not part of the Central government 4. In 1983 the same arrangement was repeated after controversial elections. By this time Ojukwu returned, was pardoned and Joined Shagari's party 5. In 1993 the Ibos did not support Abiola and he lost in the SE 6. In 1999 the Military refurbished Obasanjo and he won the PDP mandate against an Ibo candidate. Yoruba did not believe in him but Ibos supported him after he defeated Ekwueme, voting against the preferred Yoruba candidate. Why after all this would any Yoruba man do Ibos a political favour? Based on cheap sentimental blackmail? Check this out if you do not know the attitude of Ibos to the Yoruba https://www.nairaland.com/745731/yoruba-marginalization-elders-met-jonathan In all the instances above Yoruba never threatened or quarrelled wit h Ibos. Our attituded is do your own and let us do ours . Stop all this noise , go and contest because Yoruba will never support an Ibo president Stop talking and start acting We have only had one president that was imposed and you are wailing so if we are eating together when we take meat you must take meat? You are not that relevant. That is the bitter truth so stop this attitude that there is an equity issue. You have voted several times to put a Fulani there did you not consider the consequences? Ibos are traders and will understand this analogy Imagine if a trader in the same market tells you to stop making sales in the name of equity because you have sold 5 containers and he has not finished selling one 4 Likes |

AfonjaConehead:Betrayed betrayed means that We are friends or allies? Did you vote Abiola Did you vote Awolowol Did you vote Falae Betrayal means that Goodluck Jonathan had good reasons to expect Yoruba to vote for him in 2015 and that expectation was wrongly breached. Yoruba voted Jonathan in 2011 and he betrayed the Yorubas with many Ibos clapping in the backgroung https://www.nairaland.com/745731/yoruba-marginalization-elders-met-jonathan If we live in the same compound and you are a trader must I buy from you? If I do not buy from you how is that "betrayal" It is this concept of betrayal you need to elucdate? When did we become political friends or allies to talk of "betrayal" Do you understand the meaning of the word "betrayal" Betrayal implies that there is a quid pro quo, a deal, , arrangement or even contract . Which of those did we "betray"? If anyone was betrayed we were https://www.nairaland.com/745731/yoruba-marginalization-elders-met-jonathan Where were you when this thread was happening? 3 Likes |

softwareman: Indeed. Yet what is always surprising is the barefaced lies Nigerians are willing to tell themselves and others just to satisfy an agenda of hate. Tinubu is the ideal candidate of the West, especially USA, for far too many reasons than I can be bothered to list here. If some want to deceive themselves that the same Tinubu USA, UK etal treat like the unofficial President of Nigeria is affiliated with crime in the USA then goodluck to them. The sad clowns , always committed to living in hateful ignorance, will soon have the displeasure of watching the deft and openly partial moves USA, UK etal will begin to make to support BAT's candidacy when he officially joins the 2023 race. Global support for Tinubu will be overwhelming and intimidating to other candidates. This is why those who do not decieve themselves are begging him to withdraw. Dude is super special universally. Don't expect hateful IPOBians to accept that fact though. 4 Likes |

aribisala0: Thank you ojare. The most idiotic thing IPOBians regurgitate regularly is the daft claim Yorubas betrayed GEJ and the South in 2015. We voted for him in 2011 yet what did we owe him after his awful treatment of Yorubas for 4 years till 2015 when he was voted out of office? How silly is the idea Yorubas owe GEJ any electoral loyalty after his treament of the people and the region for four years? GEJ was a total ingrate and unprincipled person just most like IPOBians. The unreasonable mindset and utterances of Igbos always damn them as a people happy to demand from others what they cannot ever give. 3 Likes |

AfonjaConehead: How did they betray the south?! By not voting GEJ in 2015 after wholeheartedly voting for him in 2011? If there is any betrayer, it’s GEJ for thinking the South is just SE and part of his SS |
Re: Osita Okechukwu Asks Tinubu Not To Run For President In 2023 by Nobody: 5:33pm On Dec 20, 2021 |
ManMountain: 100% correct and an example of what happens when the Presidency falls into 'lucky' but undeserving hands. Should anyone need to tell GEJ, if he was a sagacious politician, that the South includes the SW also and that the region should be carried along in goodwill and graciously by his Presidency? Rather GEJ stuck a finger at us and told us to shove it up our azzes. A totally inept President placed far above his ability and totally ignorant of political history and realities. For his spiteful behaviour against us, that lasted years, we should have trooped to the polling station in 2015 to thumbprint for GEJ? Imagine Igbos complaining bitterly about Buhari's neglect of their ethnic group, and wishing the man death every day, expecting us to suffer the same with GEJ for 4 years and still support him electorally in 2015? Hateful IPOBians need to be reminded as well that despite GEJ's awful treatment of the Yorubas he still got over 40% of votes in the SW in 2015 demonstrating that the Yorubas are sophisticated, fair, progressive and moderate voters. Yet how many votes did hypocritical Igbos give Buhari, that they hate bitterly, in 2015 to then have the temerity to claim we 'betrayed' the South? 2 Likes 1 Share |
