Do not say what you don't know. They tell you it was about activism but it's all bunkum. If it wasn't violent then, it would never have been violent. We all know that any organization be it church, political party, bank, school etc that breaks out of a parent organization, always carry along some elements of that parent organization.

I was privileged to meet the Late Professor Muyiwa Awe ( may God bless his soul) who was among the other fellows that formed the pyrates con. with Wole Soyinka when he was alive. I was little then but still remember what he said that "WE MAY HAVE HAD good intentions but our symbols FROM DAY ONE was evil". That man realized the monster they created in Nigeria and did all he could to preach against it and saved a lot of young people from going astray in the name of cultism. If Soyinka was able to shed his arrogance and partner with him, it would have made a great difference. If Soyinka renounces pc today do you know the number of people that will renounce cultism? A lot of ignorant young people join because "Soyinka belong too".

If I were him, I will dedicate my twilight years trying to eradicate this menace including his pyrates confraternity which he claims to be different even though it is not completely true.

It isn't true. Averagely speaking there is no cultism in Northern states.
Politicians use thugs not cultist. Only political will can end cultism and thuggery.
Between 1999-2011 there were many thugs in Jigawa, Katsina (kauraye), Gombe, Bauchi (Sara suka), Kano (yan daba) but with political will of the predecessors of those Governors there are nor those gangsters in Katsina, Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe and Kano. It is only recently that Ganduje is trying to set back the good work of his predecessors in Kano.
Kwankwaso has done excellent work with very good approach in eliminating those gangs in Kano.

Well I slightly disagree. Professor Awe became a christain in latter years and used his platform to save erring youths, which is ok. But I never saw where he wrote that the intention was wrong as I followed him a bit. In the 50s, fraternities were common all over the world and especially in Africa, during the struggles for independence. As a matter of fact, many youth groups that were vocal for the independence of Nigeria started out as fraternities from UK schools. Same applies to many African countries. I personally think it is the military incursion, political hassles and economic woes of Nigeria that turned these associations to the menace they are now. The western schools still have these fraternities (with thier 'evil' insignia) without any drama. I agree that political will of leaders is what we need to stem the tide of cultism in Nigeria.

It may be difficult to eradicate, because many of the members are now big politicians, CEO,timber and calibre of the society......

Interestingly i was part of some of the programs/interventions from Prof Awe against cultism in UI and interacted with him well; I didnt get that vibe. However i cant discountenance your 'experience' coz i wasn't there.
Your line of thought actually corroborates my opinion that these associations/institutions cannot be viewed in isolation of their environment, the Nigerian society. The society as whole cannot be sick and you blame police, schools for being sick in isolation. This doesn't mean that the intention of these institution/organization/association set up was maleficent.
