Valencia had €25m as his release clause. ManCity paid €23m. Go and check the records well. He was 19 yrs when City signed him.

Now, ManCity had no obligation to sell. He's on a contract until 2025. They sold well. I agree we could have bought him for like €40m. But business is business.

Besides, due to excellent relationship between the two clubs, they've allowed Barcelona to stagger the payments into various tranches. Maybe this might be part of reason the deal was that amount.

About your last paragraph, unless release clause is paid, all payments get staggered in the books while all sales get reported as full. This is the trick Barcelona and Rubentus did with Pjanic and Arthur

Also even if we accept they paid 25M. paying over double that to sign a player who wants to leave and barely played still borders on stupid. I still feel Barcelona could've gotten him for far less with better negotiating skills
