How does population factor in? What matters is the structure of the population . I keep repeating this so many times. China has 1.5B people - but unlike Nigeria - they are not babies - they are mostly working adults.

Tanzania and South Africa have nearly 60M people each - but the population structure is completely different.

Kenya population wise is starting to transition into that - it's called demographic dividend.

Nigeria is hopeless - as the North continues to breed like rats.

Country start to become developed when median age is about 35 yrs - middle class about 25yrs.
China is 38
Mauritius is also 38.
You can only develop when you demographically transition from youthful population that is dependent to working age population - lots of people working - supporting very few - that means more savings/investment/productivity.
Kenya has to aim to improve it's mean age to 28 to get to South Africa level.
South Africa has to move to 35yrs to get to Mauritus or China level
