Broom Is No Longer Useful In The Country - Umahi’s Aide Says, Defects To PDP With Over 100,000 APC Members


A former coordinator of Ohaozara East development center, Martha Nwankwo, Wednesday dumped All Progressive Congress (APCa) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi state.

Mrs Nwankwo who doubled as the National Chairman of Governor Umahi Empowerment and Beneficiaries Association, GUMEBA, decamped to with all members of the association and about 100, 000 Alliance for New Nigerian.



The defection occurred during a civic reception ceremony in honor the state PDP chairman, Mr Tochukwu Okorie at Ugwulangwu, Ohaozara local government area of Ebonyi state.

Addressing the people, Mr Okorie noted the broom was no longer useful in the country.

He said, “An APC Coordinator in the Ohaozara East Development Centre, where we are today. The former coordinator of Ohaozara East Development Centre has seen tomorrow that the broom naturally used in sweeping away dirt, is no longer doing its duty. She is here today to announce her formal departure to the PDP.



“She understood that the government of David Umahi is high-handed, is vicious, vindictive and she would not allow herself to be rubbished by anybody and she understood, that if she had not voluntarily resigned, they would have come after her. Today, because of her passion for the PDP she relinquished all position and all that, just to be in the PDP.

“Let me also use this medium to invite Mr Lazurus Eze, the former National Vice-Chairman of Alliance for New Nigeria to announce the collapse of the entire structure of the party in the entire South-East geopolitical zone, into the PDP.

“These ones, who are hitherto in the Alliance for New Nigeria and others who were working with GUMEBA will come out here to announce their defection to the PDP. I invite party elders and leaders to join me and receive these defectors.



Defecting to PDP, Nwankwo said, “I’m here today to tell you that we are nolonger with the APC, we are now full members of the PDP.

“The people defecting with me to PDP comprises of APC members in ward 1, ward 2 and 3 in Ugwulangwu and Ebonyians in Diaspora both in Enugu, Anambra, Abia state, and all the members of my Association, even in the South-East hereby declare their defection to the PDP today.

“I’m calling on those yet to join PDP to do so because Ebonyi state is PDP and PDP is Ebonyi and Nigeria is PDP 100 percent. We will deliver Ohaozara and Ugwulangwu for PDP 100 percent. We did it before in 2019 and we will do it again in

Also, the National Vice Chairman of Alliance for New Nigeria, Lazurus Udeze said he was joining PDD with over 100, 000 members of the party.

“I’m happy to be here and I’m here with the State Chairman of the Alliance for New Nigeria, Mr Hilary and his EXCO, including the wards and local government executives of the party in the state. We could have been more , but owing to change of venue and all that, those who were coming from Afikpo and Abakaliki had to turn back.

“But, we want to assure the PDP and the entire leadership that our members , numbering over 100,000 are here today to formally declare their intention to be part of the PDP in the state. These 100,000 members of the Alliance for New Nigeria and our supporters across the state have today, collapsed into the Peoples Democratic Party, in Ebonyi State.

“It was an easy decision for us, because PDP of today is no longer the PDP of yesterday. The people, who before now made PDP unattractive, have left the party”.

Who will be APC guber candidate in 2023?

It will be someone who will uphold Dave’s legacies with regards to making Ebonyi the beacon of SE and also uphold and maintain his infrastructure which include the dualized roads, Pa Oruta Ngele Stadium, the mall, ecumenical center, ongoing university of aeronautics and university of ICT, the ongoing international stadium, as for the airport it will be concessioned anyway so no need for government’s maintenance or infrastructural intervention, after all I’m sure you read the letter of Dave to the Honorable Minister for Aviation last September.

There are touted names circulating but releasing names too early is undemocratic and further drive purported oppositions away from the party. In due course, I’m sure the faces will make themselves available.

Obinna is a strong man in Ebonyi PDP and once served as commissioner for sports and youth development in Egwu’s government. There are no permanent friends in politics but as for now, he and Egwu who is in Ebonyi north can still partner for old times sake and because interests still align. Egwu wants to return to senate and Ogba will support him in order to be supported.

Ogba has enough money to clinch the ticket courtesy his senatorial position (unless the national working committee of the PDP support another candidate, for now that is unlikely because they will depend on a local strong man to assume power from Dave Umahi), Ogba will apparently clinch the ticket but Dave knows how to use power very much.

Ogba will be denied the use of Oruta Ngele stadium, and Dave will attempt to foist and financially support an unpopular nonentity to win PDP ticket just as he did in 2019 when he ensured an inconsequential man emerged winner.

Dave is very familiar with the military hierarchy, the presidency and their attached courts. I’m sure you know what is called federal might.

The APC presidential primary whether direct or indirect will come before Ebonyi state APC gubernatorial primaries. Dave will contest in the national level and should he lose the ticket to presidency, will come back home in Ebonyi, pull his resources together and redirect them to the guber election to make sure his candidate emerges in Ebonyi state, after which he will definitely be made minister for works or transport by the next government.


But, should he emerge as APC presidential candidate, it will even be easier for his candidate in Ebonyi state to emerge as gubernatorial candidate. If not for anything, I don’t want PDP to come back to Ebonyi because they were in power all the while while other states mocked us from 1999-2015, we were backward and lacking in infrastructure, an Ebonyi man lacked self esteem and confidence.

Right now, private investments are trooping to Abakaliki en mass. More than 7 multinational restaurants have established branch in Abakaliki this year alone, all these would not have been if not for Dave’s enabling environment and infrastructural development.

the hype on Dave is not an over-emphasis bro. The hype is worth it. Anyone who knows what was in Ebonyi in 2015 that he stepped in, and returns again this very day into Ebonyi on a visit. Will hail Umahi even if he is on the opposition PDP and Dave is in APC.
