Please before you pay for an apartment, take your time, ask around and be sure you're dealing with a trustworthy individual. Some people are just heartless. I learnt the hard way.

Please, I need suggestions on how I could recover my money.

I deposited 250k for a self con hoping to complete payment as soon as the apartment is ready..
Now the house is still the way it was when I paid for it, it's been 4 months already. I've been to the house several times, the landlord is never around.
He doesn't even answer my calls anymore neither does he reply my messages.

He also said I should fix the apartment myself and move in and then he'll deduct it from my next rent.. There's too much to be done in the apartment and I don't think I can fix it on my own

If the apartment is still vacant, then you've not been duped.

Be patient.

Better still look for money and rent another place, when a new tenant pays for your old place, you will be refunded.

Move into the bigger apartment and live there, If he comes and finds u there and start reacting, tell him that u have spent all that u have and that u can't do those expenses after paying for the rent.
