Legendary actor! I used to look out for his movies on TNT/TCM when TCM still showed classic movies not the 2000s rubbish they're showing nowadays. Sad times in Hollywood, two legends dead within the space of a week.

RIP Sidney Poitier

the man is great. His potrayal of the experiences of black men in white spaces is second to none.

He should rest in peace .. he truly opened up the space for the blacks in entertainment in new world

He will be remembered for his grt role in all the movies he played

Death is the only constant thing in life, when you are dead thats the end, no more star, no more celebrity, the only unique name after death is "Late". The only important thing is "Live a good life"

May his soul rest in perfect peace.

I will never forget his many roles in movies, one of which as FBI Deputy Director Carter Preston, when he'd gone after an elusive assassin, Bruce Willis's character "Jackal," in the 1997 film, The Jackal. May his soul rest in peace. Amen.

This man opened the door for Blacks to play major good guy roles in movies. Watching his movies for the first time today... one need to realize they were shot in a time when Blacks were not even considered for major roles. "To Sir With Love" ... British?.... his roles did a lot to break down the Black/White barrier. Guy never played a role that will disgrace his race. Denzel Washington ... Morgan Freeman and a few others followed in his footsteps . Gone.. a pioneer... an activist.
