In this Buhari regime where things are difficult, it's disturbing that we still have to pay for electricity we didn't use.

It is not enough that the bill itself is crazy as it does not even reflect in improved electricity supply, we now had to pay for it when we didn't use it.

Very painful.

Does anyone know when the next metering phase will commence? Because this is getting out of hand.
Your own is good na. For me, EKEDC staff came to disconnect me November 1st because I refused to pay inflated estimated bill for October. Guess what? They still brought bill for November! And November bill with Zero consumption from them was higher than October bill grin.

Me wey I don install Solar Panel to backup my inverter. 24 hours power without turning on my generator. Plan to put more money together to increase the solar panels and buy more batteries

It's actually cheaper for me powering my house with gen than using EKEDC. They say my monthly consumption is ₦150k or 3k+ Kwh monthly. Am I running a factory in my house?

that's not how we're billed. The bill is usually sent between 10th and 15th of each month and that's how we calculate it.

Back to your question: why should I also pay for electricity I didn't use from 21st
of December to 9th of January?

That's the point I'm trying to make. We should only pay for the light we use and not for the one we didn't use.
What's IKEDC billing cycle? That the bill gets to your premise within 10th to 15th doesn't mean that's when it starts counting. You may complain that the bill was crazy(estimated) but complaining that you shouldn't get bill at all is out of it. Protest the crazy billing not that you were served bill for that month.

We travelled on the 21st of December last year. We just came back yesterday.

The bill was brought this month.

It is a private property (my father's house)
Did you consume electricity between December 1st and December 21st?

When you travelled did you leave any (security) lights or appliances (fridge or freezer) on?

If your answer to any of these questions is YES then under estimated billing method of charging customers you don't have much of a case.

Las las, after this experience apply for prepaid metre, follow it up "accordingly", and then have peace of mind.

I don't get this? How do they give an estimated bill to prepaid meter? What is it prepaid for?
They distributed post paid metres in the East some time ago.

It's supposed to be read every month by their staff but no they don't but will stay in the office ,write bill and send.

Pre-paid is the best. Since 3years I have been using pre-paid: no more under payment, no more knocking on my door. I now recharge in the comfort of my home with any amount I have.
Re: IKEDC Estimated Bill: We Travelled For Christmas, Yet We Were Still Billed. by Nobody: 7:58pm On Jan 10, 2022
This is the agony of not being metered in Nigeria be it post paid or prepaid. Well apply for a meter today and pay for it if you can afford it or apply through MAP and wait for the next free metering cycle, well i got two free meters in the last cycle.

And for those that have analogue meters that have not been tampered with in any way, it should be read by a Disco staff every month. You should pay for what you're using. In my residence currently we still have few of the analogue meters that are being rwad monthly till this day.

My advice is that if you have a WORKING and not TAMPERED analogue meter(s), write a letter to the nearest disco, asking why they have refused to read you meter(s) (make sure you have it registered, being issued a SR number and also a second copy of the letter acknowledged) then their reply and check at your premises will determine if you have been cheated or not. If cheated, your new reading will be picked and your payment history will be checked to see if there will be any credit adjustment as a result over paying due to estimated billing.

There is a maximum limit you are to be billed per month on estimated tariff. Don't let them scam you. Refuse to pay more than amount or get a prepaid meter.

You can't enjoy power with pre paid meter. I have 4 burner electric cooker, 2 fridges and 2 freezer, 3 ac Including 2 Hp ,4 Tv's and other electrical stuffs. Tried pre paid,10k not up to 13days. The children use their AC every night. I have to discuss with nepa for estimated and I got 5k. Sharp sharp I wanted to pay upfront.

Baba stop crying more than the breaved. The bill you were sent was for November and not December as you claimed. And by the way who will now pay for the light that you used from the 1st to the 22nd of December?

Hmmm!!! Some people using prepaid metre spend 50k and above on monthly basis. Before, we receive an estimated bill around 30/32k per month but during lockdown, prepaid metre was shared and in 7 days, 15k was used, now we spend approximately 72k per month on prepaid metre.
Will u stop lying! Trying very hard to justify high estimated billing of phcn. Prepaid meter is the best that's why phcn is hoarding it from the masses because they know with the way they distribute power it will affect their monthly turnover greatly. So stop lying en!

Well, so many people (yourself included) are trying to insinuate that I don't want to pay my bills. Far from it.

We've not even had our light disconnected even once for the past 4 to 5 years.

If you read my original post to the end, you'll see where I asked when the second or third phase of the national metering scheme will commence.

It's not everytime we'll be around. Sometimes for three to five days, there will be no one around, but that would not stop them from sending bills still.

My point is that having prepaid meter would make things easier for us.

I never said we don't want to pay and want free light. Okay?

OK which brings me to my next question. Whenever you travel do you leave appliances in the house on when you travel or you turn off the meter before travelling?

Bros. I turn on the AC always when light comes..
Freezer and all home appliances . Washing machine and iron whenever needed. People aren't restricted to use these things at home whenever there is light. It is a house with more than 1 bedroom
The ac is inverter though

Hot plate? I don't have hotplate. I use the Gas cooker.

I mean for the prepaid meter
When it comes to prepaid, the most important thing is knowing that watts of your appliances.
The first time I started using prepaid meter, it was hell till I applied management.

Here is a good example.
A flat with 10 bulbs of 60 watts each. = 600 watts

Replacing these with energy saving bulbs of 6 watts will give you 60 watts.
Re: IKEDC Estimated Bill: We Travelled For Christmas, Yet We Were Still Billed. by Branduche: 9:52pm On Jan 10, 2022
Ikedc has non energy usage policy.

If you are not going to be available within certain times for more than 48hrs, you have to write to the area office to inform them about your non availability.

That way your bill will read only days of energy use within that month.

Speak to your marketer about this for future travels etc.

I was to pay about 60k when I learnt of the Federal Government metering program. So i got it for free, pre installed with 100 units which they later charged me for.
